- In our previous videos, we have discussed different types of gearboxes used for varying the torque. But, have you ever heard of a device that is capable of shifting the vehicle from two-wheel drive to four-wheel drive? That is what this video is about.
We have explained what a transfer case is, where it is used, why is it necessary, its construction and working.
A transfer case or transfer box is a device with a set of gears. It transmits power to both the front and rear axles of a 4-wheel drive vehicle. It allows the vehicle to operate under four different transmission modes. The modes are two-wheel drive with low and high torque transmission and four-wheel drive with low and high torque transmission. Watch the video to know how exactly it works.

Very underrated video! Super simple thanks!
Thank you for the simple explanation!
My transfer case (made sometime in the 80s) works slightly differently in that the high torque / low torque are done through planetary gears. A sleeve either connects the output shaft directly to the input shaft, or the the sleeve connects the output shaft to the planetary gears. Similar to an automatic transmission.
The perk being that planetary gears can offer a much higher torque ratio than gear to gear. 2.72 for mine vs 1.98 for the previous gear driven model.
hello from México City, good work...
Simple and clear explanation. Thank You.
Thank you for your feedback. You made our day! We look forward to continuing to serve you well :)
I find total mechanism in single vedio...
Thnks sir
Perfectly explained!
We hope you have an amazing experience & learn lots of exciting stuff! :)
Excellent, simple explanation. Big Thanks !!
Thank you for your feedback. You made our day! We look forward to continuing to serve you well :)
@@SkillLync can u explain me why the left side gear of the lay shaft is larger than the right side gear of the lay shaft? While larger one increases torque isnt the smaller one decreasing it?
Nice
Lots of geas. Thanks.
Any way or device to get more torque to rear wheels on a 2wd without re-gearing differential. Kinda like a bolt on low gear transfer case to rear drive shaft?
Great vid
Thank you! What a nice thing to say. We are so grateful to have a passionate learner like you as a part of the student community.
Great wideo.
