One of the most desirable and difficult watches to actually buy at the moment is the Rolex Cosmograph Daytona, the most recent iteration of one of the most storied automatic chronographs in watch history. However, given the fact that a ceramic Daytona will likely trade for at least 3x retail price, it's only reasonable to take a look at some more attainable options. So in this video, I'll highlight some of the best alternatives to the Daytona on the market today, looking only at automatic watches and, as you'd expect, more affordable price points compared to the current Daytona market value. If you guys like these "alternatives" videos, be sure to comment some other watches we might use for this concept!

I find it laughable that someone would buy a Speedy with the intent of seeing it as an alternative to a Daytona. It doesn’t need to be an alternative. It is its own icon.
Agree
It's ludicrous for people who buy a Rolex they are not that good, there's a ton of fake models and if you got the money buy a Zenith, if not get the Hamilton, I would also consider the Tudor basically is the same watch as is the cheaper Rolex is like buying a Hyundai and a KIA same shit different name
Absolutely 💯 agree 👍I like both but the Omega speedmaster MW is just special a piece of history
@@havr1979 The Tudor s that were amazing are the Prince Big block and Tiger chronographs. I love they resembled the early years of the Rolex Daytona except with a cyclops date window. I hope Tudor brings them back exactly 💯 like they were
@@havr1979 I agree 👍 I just wish instead of the date window on the new Tudor chronograph they gave it a 12 hour counter. That would have been perfect 👌
Teddy, great job producing the best watch content out there, consistently. I’m busy, and you are respectful of that with your concise approach, but not at the expense of thoroughness. Your filming is professional grade and you speak to the audience with organic enthusiasm. Big thumbs up!
Really appreciate this comment, Brent. Have a great weekend ahead!
I agree and have said the same thing. I do not think there is any other channel that goes to the effort and lengths that Teddy does. I sort of pick at him about all of these newer watches stating in the manuals not to do this and that with them. What ever happened to buying a watch and just wearing for everything you do? Teddy has some of the best of everything for sale on his sight. But he also lets you know and honestly says I know you like this and that but if you want to do that you need this type of watch. Got hooked on these watch channels several years ago and started watching them when I was off several months for surgeries. And they have seemed to just multiply into a plethora of channels. Viewed a few from Teddy from 2017 and 2018 and he was on track then as well. I am sure that in his quiver is a watch or watches that would fit anyone's needs and wants.
@@jeffcline7689 @Jeff Cline You two gotta be kidding... for example in all the 'tutorials' or comparisons in which he's featured chronographs he hasn't once discussed central minutes hands, 12hr registers or even the pros & cons of 30, 45 & 60 minute sub dials - all essential considerations for someone who might want to time everyday events far more easily than by using a phone or smartwatch. Like most channels he throws around phrases like tool watch without even understanding their meanings.
He's affable and he can make very good content but to say he's thorough is kinda depressing.
@@anonimushbosh OK I will go with you on that. Not being a pundit I cannot contest you expressions.
These are absolutely CLASS alternatives. Thank you sooo much! You know…. I got the Daytona a few months ago & I just haven’t fully bonded woth it. Honestly, Daytona is a bit overhyped & I hope soon it won’t always be the benchmark of purchasing a chronograph.
I'd go for the Zenith or the Speedy Professional, even ahead of the Daytona
no you wouldn’t
Lol. You’re probably in middle school. Wtf are you talking about buying watches for?
Not the Omega, but the Zenith maybe...
The Speedy doesn't look good
Dude, great list! Thanks for highlighting alternatives, very helpful.
Fantastic alternatives. The Zenith really stood above the rest, absolutely beautiful dial and movement. The Breitling looked fantastic as well. Of course you can't go wrong with the Omega but I think I actually prefer the Zenith. Never thought I'd say that.
The Omega and Heuer stood the most out to me but they're all absolute jaw-droppers👄
The Zenith and the Tudor called to me as well. Would love to have a timepiece with the El Primero powering it
Always learning something on this channel. Would like to see your top 10 great automatic watches with a great power reserve. Keep it up Teddy.
Great video, Teddy! I personally am saving for a Tudor Black Bay Chrono. I love the history of the brand and agree that is a great value proposition rocking the modified B01 movement. Love all the content coming out. Have a great weekend!
Incredible macro shots. Great voice, I love this channel
Excellent video. Thoughtfully presented in offering multiple alternatives should one be inclined. Kudos to Teddy for his honest Rolex opinions. I personally like the brand yet here we have other compelling choices ready to be discovered and enjoyed without a 30, 40, 50, 60 percent FOMO tax.
I love my Speedy and just ordered the Chronomaster Sport yesterday. Should be here in a couple days and can't wait.
Hi Teddy, like your channel very much. Always good content!
I would go for a GO Senator Chronograph
Panorama date..
Awesome list! Already got the zenith for those reasons! Couldn't be happier. Haven't set it more then once in 5 months. It's about the most accurate watch I've ever seen.
For all the watch enthusiasts who love to gaze at the watches with little watches on the dials this is right on the money.
For anyone hoping to see a comparison of chronographs based on features, functions or even timing lengths I feel your frustration!
The most interesting chrono in the $2000 price bracket is probably Hanhart 417 ES, not the Hamilton. Such a rich history and lots of influence.
agreed!
Another great vid, Teddy!
Personally I prefer the older 4-digit Daytonas (panda and reverse) because they are actually LEGIBLE! Only a few colour combinations of modern Daytona are easy to read IMO. Anyway, another iconic 3-6-9 chronograph is the Breguet Type XX, no?
Good call on the Breguet. Didn’t consider it as it has those aviation undertones similar to many Breitling chronos. Certainly worthy of consideration.
You are the most well-spoken guy period accompanying the beautiful videography perfect.
Most solidifying intro . good one sir
Tudor BB Choice for me followed closely by the Breitling B01. Honourable mention to the Hamilton Intramatic Chrono - a great piece as well.
Hi Teddy, it's the Zenith all by it self at the wire. Love the content. Thanks as always.
Great list, Teddy. I actually own the Seiko SRQ029, and have always been a big fan of the Daytona. Chronographs are my favorite complication. While I don't think I'll be getting a Daytona anytime soon unless my AD calls, my Seiko does more than scratches the itch. I wouldn't even say the Daytona would be an upgrade or replacement for my seiko. I'd probably end up moving to a Grand Seiko chronograph like the sbgc240.
Omega speedmaster racing, for me, is the best alternative. It offers the same general look, white dial option on stainless with a tapering bracelet that includes micro adjustability in the clasp, black ceramic bezel, and probably even better finishing than the daytona. It features an in house manufactured Co-Axial master chronometer 9900 movement, 60 hours power reserve, accurate to 0 to +5 seconds, and has the added benefit of being completely anti magnetic with it's si14 balance spring. It's honestly probably a better technical watch than the Daytona, without the ridiculous hype and gray market price that more than doubles it's MSRP cost.
I personally think Rolex is just like Apple (Iphone) in terms of sales. The reason why they're so sought after is because "Its a Rolex" or "Its Apple". One could argue the percentage of enthusiasts is not a lot. Most people buy the aforementioned brands just because most people have them- and also maybe they look good and are reliable, and I dont blame them. Idk, just a thought.
it costs less than US$300 to manufacture a steel rolex. not everyone wants to be ripped off
Idk they make some beauties
But yeah definitely overrated
There is clearly a difference: a Rolex was, is and always will be a luxury item. As a professional I work with MacBook and iPhone because it is economical to do so. Yes, they are a bit more expensive, but from direct comparison and experience I can definitely say that over the lifecycle of four years (I am not a kid that needs the latest item each year just to feel comfortable in its peer group) you save so much in time and nerves because they work without a service nerd or maintenance guru, that I would never ever get myself an Android phone or PC. The price tag you can see on the item isn't everything you pay for.
@@christophneuschaeffer7489 rolex is a luxury item for peasants like you maybe. rolex was and is a tool watch - and a crappy one at that with outdated technology. only true tools like you would subscribe to their rebranding themselves as a luxury watch. but hey, 80% of westerners are peasants and easy to fool
@@redcapitalist Rolex is not a luxury for me, it is something I can easily live without. As a Red Capitalist you might be pleased to know that this White Communist wears a Seagull 1963. A 300 $ chronograph made in the worker's paradise, that killed dozens of million of its own people while making a giant leap forward in the 1950s and during its cultural revolution in the 1960s.
Nice shout out to the Orient Neo 70s. It's a fine looking watch and a nice budget alternative to the chronographs in this video.
Great video!!
I love the Seiko actually…..
I have a Zenith Chronomaster Sport black dial on order. Should be on my wrist by October. Very excited!
This reminds me quite a bit of yesterdays post in r/watches asking for an alternative to the Zenith El Primero... :D
Daytona of course 😂
I can't disagree with any of your choices Teddy but the stand out options that I would look at are the Zenith and at the other end of the price range Hamilton with the Tudor in the middle. I have the discontinued 1861 Speedy that is a manual wind for me and for anyway adds that extra connection to the watch to keep the heart beating. Great video Teddy.
Another great option is the Chronograph Sport family from Farer. They have four models that are racing inspired, great specs and with their own unique design. At the same price as the Hamiltons, the Farer chronos are a great option.
Go for a used IWC Chronograph like the 3717 which is superb, classic and will only appreciate in value.
Bought the Tudor reverse panda. Love the “vintage” mechanical look in stainless steel. Very happy with it and wear it everyday
Lucky! I've been trying to buy one but nobody has them in stock. Tudor is just as bad as rolex. Unfortunately the ones online are 1-2k above MSRP
@@dustindodge5974 , probably indeed lucky. On my holiday in Swiss i sort of stumbled on one at a dealer in Sainkt Moritz. He said no discount since it’s a new model. I didn’t even know that but just liked it. When i got home my son almost flipped over the fact that i found one. Pure coincidence 😊
A superlative video! I own three chronographs...the Omega Speedmaster Professional from 1971, the Lorier Gemini, and Bulova Lunar Pilot. I always considered the Speedmaster Professional and Daytona as equals.
I love the Zenith, but for my use, the 12 hour timer/register is a must-have. Frankly I don't understand a 24 hour military time register. I don't see any advantage of spending thousands more on the Hamilton and Tudor. No 12-hour register. You might as well get the superb Lorier Gemini. It's a panda and come in three colorways. It's $499 and punches way above its weight, using the fantastic Seagull ST19 manual wind movement. No, the Gemini doesn't have the 12-hour register, but it's still a terrific chronograph.
The Lorier and Bulova Lunar Pilot have been my daily drivers...with the Lunar Pilot being my favorite. Yes, I know it's a quartz, so it won't make your cut, but it has Bulova's revolutionary 262 kHz movement, that buttery-smooth chrono hand and the +-10 seconds-per-year accuracy.
I always fancied the Alpha daytona with the Seagull st19 movement. The Parnis quartz has the best case
though.
Don't discount that ST19 movement. It's solid and reliable.
Hi Teddy.. Do you know anything about Brellum Swiss Watches? They make a Chronograph at a very good price
Some great options!! The Zenith or the omega were my favs
Hey Teddy - loved your videos as I've gotten into the hobby. I did want to throw out a quick point on your newer studio setup that could be helpful. Right now your background is pretty overexposed. I'd recommend lowering your ISO or putting an ND filter on the lens to match the exposure to the outside light. Then I'd turn up your studio light(s) or invest in a something with a more powerful output (2x Aputure 300D, a single 600, or even some Godox VL300's) to step this up to the next level. I totally respect if this is the look you were going for, but I think it would be a little less distracting with the more even exposure and easier to watch with that change. Good luck!
I am waiting the new Daytona, rumored for 2023, with the tachymeter scale converted to a Viagra optimization scale, to be synched with the roofie-onset timer subdial at 3, as this is the only real-world function the modern Daytona wearer would actually have for a chronograph-- while at a Dubai disco, of course. The hour aggregator subdial would of course be converted to a suite-sterilization countdown timer for extra security.
The Omega Speedy Racing with the white panda dial is gorgeous. I had that watch and a black Seamaster in each hand, and it was a hard choice. I got the Seamaster since I loved it, and well, saved about 4 grand lol
I think another alternate would be the Ball Hydrocarbon Racer. It incorporates both the looks of a racing chronometer and a diver quite well in my opinion, and it’s a more affordable option for how much watch it delivers
It says something when at grey market prices for a Panda Daytona, you can also buy Speedy Pro + Zenith Chronomaster + Tudor Panda Chrono at retail...
And have around 10-15k left over
Literally could get all the watches in this video for the same secondary trading value of ceramic Daytona in 2021. That trio you mentioned alone is enough to prove the point. Craziness
But no Daytona
So, after watching the whole video I thought Teddy was giving away 10 new Daytona’s? 🤣
Great job. Great choices. Maybe a follow up video with chronos in the $800-$2000 range?
Breitling 8.5k vs Zenith 10k: for me, no match, just save some more and get the El Primero
The Daytona is only $13k why not just save an extra month or two and get the real deal?
@@toadamine I understand the Daytona is glamorous and hot. Not my piece of cake however. Technically zenith is nowhere below the Daytona. Plus, but that’s not the point, bet you know very well that no dealer will readily hand over a Daytona at the retail price point. It’s a long long wait. I’d get the Zenith anyway.
Hey, Teddy, since you’ve mentioned the Orient Neo 70, have you taken a gander at it and done a review? Seems like a very solid watch but kinda hard to come by outside the Asian market.
Please review the Marcello C Nettuno 3..i am one of your avid fan.i always watch your videos..i want to know your opinion on the marcello c nettuno lines...thank you..keep up the good reviews of watches...i am from the philippines..
Another very interesting and informative vid 👍.
It has to be the Hamilton for me, it's great value and a true alternative instead of being a substitute like the Tudor or Zenith imo.
The Tudor especially the S&G Chrono is sooo underrated. Wears very silky, smooth, soft, impeccable performance for the money its scintillating.
Great alternatives review. I'd chose the Autavia 02 great watch from Heuer ,a company with lots of racing history.
The Zenith is amazing! 👌 ❤️
Wow, I was just Google searching this yesterday!
I have been asking for the tudor - I have not asked to be put on the 'list' - I hope to find one ( white/black sub's). ~ JDS/CT
I own a speedy, just as if not more iconic.
I love my Cartier roadster chromo it’s chromawesome but it can only be had second hand
Great video as always. You are a pretty amazing young man when it comes to the knowledge of watches with great charisma. Well done. All the watches you’re presenting in this video are great watches but, personally I don’t think that they are alternative watches to the Daytona. To me they are more like consolation watches. If you want a Daytona, no “lookalike” watches will satisfy you. I would have no problems owning any of those watches from your video. As a matter of act you exited my watch appetite with your video, but not as alternative to a Daytona. I don’t own any Daytona yet but I’m still hoping that I will one day. It is probably because it’s so hard to get it that we are fantasizing over it. I’m lucky to own an AP Royal Oak that I managed to buy longtime ago for a fair price, so this one is out of my dream list. The Pateck Nautilus is out of my league but the Daytona remains a wish that I’d like to achieve. Anyways, good going with your videos, thanks for giving us a bit of joy with them each time.
The polishing on the Tudor BB case at 07:33 isn’t great is it?
Own the new black dial Zenith Chronomaster and absolutely luv it!
If you are near the Zenith price I’m thinking the JLC Master Chronograph.
what watch are you wearing teddy?
I really like the Hamilton Intra-matic chronograph. Mine keeps great time which surprised me, with its having an ETA/Valjoux movement.
I’m not into Chronographs, but the black Tudor is something I will buy if one comes up, as a quality Chrono movement is something I would like to try.
It is also the only Tudor I think I could suffer that faux river bracelet with.
Teddy,
Another superior video.
The Hamilton is a chronograph designed for average folks. I suppose that’s the advantage of being part of the Swatch Group. It is a watch I can save up and buy someday.
If you do have gold bullion stashed away, the other watches as well as the Daytona are spectacular choices and well worth the money. Just not for most of us.
Talking about chronograph, yeah, the Speedmaster might be iconic and so as the Daytona but Zenith deserves more credit for the El Primero line since the beginning... more than Rolex for sure.
I have an Omega Speedmaster Racing in the white with black accented black dials and I love it…
How about the Ball Engineer hydrocarbon chronograph. I love the Zenith but I hate the 4 o'clock date window. Even the Frederique constant Rally has Daytona vibes
I used to think the Daytona is the best-looking sports chronograph. Now The 41mm IWC pilot chronograph in blue on the bracelet looks really tempting.
The Zenith and the Hamilton both look so good.
Has to be the Autavia out of these for me. I also like the Sinn 144, and some of the Porsche Design chronos.
Zenith or Tudor? which one is the Better Daytona Alternative?
Zenith, breitling or Tudor, send Seiko out and get one more in , how is that ?
Why the watch community almost never talks about Bell & Ross? I love their style.
Very Good Teddy!
Keep on!
ETA movements for high prices. Lacking heritage (unless I'm mistaken). Nice designs though.
So interesting to see the direction that Breitling is taking. Up until recently, Breitling conjured ideas of overlarge, flashy, ostentatiously cluttered watches. Recently, with products like the B01 movement and designs like the Top Time, they seem to have upped their game in a major way. All that goodness and you can walk into a boutique, try on some watches, and walk home with the one you fancy.
Have the intramatic and vintage speedmaster, waiting on the tudor.
Idol next upload can you upload all rolex style and model.
As a big dude, the black lunar pilot was the best $200 spent at kohls on black friday. The black wears a bit smaller, and I prefer no date for my watches. No need for a daytona or speedy. Bought black leather white stitching chronissimo straps that makes the straps look 22mm. Super badass bargain. No servicing costs.
I do love me some Hamilton. They have a Cartier homage dress watch for bigger dudes that looks awesome. I love that panda chrono. Damasko chronos have my full attention as well...true tool.
The tudor panda is washed out. Wished they used black hands like Damasko.
I went with a Haute Hologerie brand and decided on the Ulysse Nardin Marine Chronograph.
I bought the Hamilton white dial Chronograph with H-51 movement modified 7753 hand wind about 5 months ago it keeps perfect time still right on the button never hand watch keep that good of time and I have a lot automatic and wind watches any some watches are over 10,000 dollar watches
Great video. never try to compete with people with more money than sense. There is absolutely zero justification for Daytona prices beyond hype.
You didn’t mention the movement in the Tudor is also in the Breitling
Love the Zenith and would have no problem sporting this instead of the Daytona. Visually I love the Autavia.
Oft overlooked - the Omega SeaMaster Chronograph. An almost bulletproof 12 hour chronograph.
Well done.
Didn't the Daytona use the zenith movement when it first came out, but the movement was restricted to ,28,000, compared to the 36,000 of the original zenith movement
If considering entry price-points I think Tissot V8 Chronograph Automatic looks pretty decent as a entry Daytona.
I have watched this a while ago, and now again. I’ve continually checked prices, to find a Tudor Chrono at the prices you posted here, without any success. At $5224 I would buy it right now, I have the money in hand. You wanna help me out?
I'd go for the Hamilton Intra Matic, they have a new one with a light green dial/cream configuration.
It’s very sharp!
One of my favorite is Breitling hurricane avenger.
Why not the Panda speedmaster from 2020 Olympic collection.
Can't believe you didn't include the Pagani Design PD-1644 Daytona :) Id take the Zenith all day long. Thanks for another great vid Teddy
I have the Pagani Design Daytona, it's a really nice watch.
Probably because its closer to a fake daytona than an alternative.
Great review! All of the watches you reviewed are excellent choices, however they still can't compare to the Daytona. They are all too thick, I think the Daytona is about 12.3mm? None of them come close to a Rolex bracelet. Believe me I have tried all of them on and I keep coming back to my Daytona, and Explorer II.
@Nigel Molesworth You are so welcome.
The Zenith is the competition here for me and I'd pick it before the Daytona if we take out the resale value
What watch does Teddy wear while discussing Daytona alternatives on CZcams?
Blancpain fifty fathom bathyscaphe chrono.....is less expensive than the current trading Daytona and the Lamborghini inspired movement is truly gorgeous
Bremont Williams Racing Watch. I would add that one to the list
Well my Pagani chrono will fill that “splURGE” for a real Daytona.😂 But I have my Omega Speedmaster Professional to fall back on when style is required over substance. Terrific review Teddy. 👍🏼🇦🇺
4:23 oh yeah I’d totally buy this 😍😍
I like my speedy, but for a white dial from this list I’d take the Zenith. Second choice the Breitling.
Zenith chronomaster sport is the only one that would scratch that itch for me
Tudor would be the closest alternative since they are owned by same company. Good analogy would be the equivalent to Toyota and Lexus, Rolex being the Lexus of course.
Not really, there isn't one rolex part in a tudor.... that's like saying a Volkswagen is a lesser version of a Lamborghini because they're made by the same company....it's just not true.... tudor makes some cool watches! But the black bay chrono has no resemblance to the daytona....2 registers verse 3, date vs no date, different handset, and completely different parts on the inside and out.
@@pignosis354 you mean Audi or Porshe to a Volkswagen. Lambo is a little extreme. Lol
@@jjworks462 ah, sure! Lol but the main point was they use different parts! And just for me I don't really find tudor an "alternative " to the daytona, it looks more like it's own creation!
For me, when I think of "alternatives" I think of things like Invicta or Pagani design watches, I don't really think of watches that have their own identity like the tudor blackbay or omega speedmaster. if tudor did the omega seamaster thing with the open snow flake handset, that black bay chrono would be a snap buy! Atleast for me! The full snowflake hand set currently hides too much of the dial :( but I don't want them to change the handset because a tudor without snowflake hands seems off to me haha
@@pignosis354 recently they still used to same parts so someone buying a used Tudor would have same Eta. Lol.
@@pignosis354 Google it they used the same parts until recently. Is that what you did Google it a came to my comment to say they don't have same parts. Lol. Just recently they stop using same ETA. Nice try though. Lol
Dan Henry have made a few designs... Maybe not a high horology brand, but a respectable one.
For me on the first place is Zenith. S cond place for me Blancpain Bathyscaphe vintage. This 2 watches for me always been creme de la creme
Nice overlap with WatchFinder’s latest video! ;-)
