I liked how zinogre (and by extension, stygian) was silhouetted during the beginning of its kinship attack in stories 1, it makes the lightning striking next to it feel more impactful. Also miss the "samurai strike" the nargacuga had in its kinship.
Worth mentioning Lagia kinship is the only one who's kinship is completely different in Stories 2.
It’s so overkill in the second one I love it
The movements of the models are pretty much the same, the camera angles were just changed.
I miss hearing the rider during the skills. I think that little element added so much character.

ST1 Rathian’s KS skill was dope
while for the most part I think S2 was an improvment, Rathian, Zinogre, and a few others to me just look so much cooler in the first game.
Even though the 3ds graphics are more outdated, it still looks great to me! It’s fun, colorful, and dynamic! Though it is one of my all time favorite games so I’m biased as heck
Just realized they cut corners with Silver Rathalos in Stories 2. After the shot is fired and he's hovering in the air, the sprite animation is a normal Rathalos, not a silver one.
A small detail I noticed and was a bit disappointed with game 1 vs 2, were the preset backgrounds for the kinship attacks. The first game would have the kinshop attack background adapt to whatever environment you were in. The second game leaves the backgrounds preset, with the exceotion of lighting for some of them. A pretty small detail and a bit disappointing to see it change, though it's understandable why
Stories 2 rathian: go go beywheels
Stories 1: “bro she drop the sun on us twice”
A lot of these Kinship Skills are a huge upgrade, for example: Zinorge, Nargacuga, and Lagiacrus. However, there is one notable downgrade, this being Rathian, and her subspecies, Pink Rathian. That downgrade being the color of the fire wheel being the same between the two. Rathian’s fire wheel was green, and Pink Rathian’s was, of course, pink. At least Gold Rathian kept the black hole.
I would also like to shoutout to Dreadqueen for having the worst looking Kinship Skill among the Deviants. They only changed the first part of it, being it striking with venom instead of shooting a fireball.
Zinogre and Nargacuga I feel are more so sidegrades, since they removed the look at Zinogre's face before the impact and the after impact flash for Narga (though I do love the new additions at the end). Additionally, they messed up the audio for the both. Narga seems to have the same slashing audio for the barrage as in Stories 1, but it doesn't match the added and sped up slashes. Zinogre is even worse, since the initial howl timing is completely off and I don't know how they managed that since the animation has the same timing but the audio is now off.
I like the original Lagiacrus kinship better. There's something about the camera angle and power conveyed when it fires the electric blast that just isn't the same in the sequel. Like it feels like you can visualize the energy traveling up its body and it emits so much power as it fires at a downward angle and explodes. I also like its entrance better.

Y’know Stories 2 doesn’t look the greatest but shot for shot compared to Stories 1 it’s a huge improvement

The fidelity is objectively an improvement but not the art direction - the characters clash with the realistic environment and gives off vibes of “NINTENDO HIRE THIS MAN”.
That moment when Pokémon was surpassed as a monster collection game before Palworld came along.
Surpassed? Nah. Given proper competition? Hell yes.
