  • In certain groups of the p-block, the heavier members are generally observed to be stable in a lower oxidation state (that is lower than the group oxidation state by two units). Inert pair effect explains why this happens so!

    Isn‘t that Video more about the d-Block-Contraction, rather then the Inertert-Pair-Effect?
    I thought the Inert-Pair-Effect is caused by the increased speed of the s-electrons which ends in a relavistic effect that increases their mass. Therefor the orbitals contract and the ionisationenergy increases, which makes it harder to form bonds with the s-orbital valenzelectrons.
