Achievement Unlocked: "Survivor! - Made it through the Robinson Crusoe Tutorial"
Well done!
Mee too!
Achievement Unlocked: "Survivor! - Made it through the Robinson Crusoe Tutorial"
When I first bought this I thought I was screwed, trying to learn it. Once I used the Dized app in tandem with Rodney, everything snapped into place. Now it's all second nature!
If you didn’t finish this video, take a wound, otherwise nothing happen
Phew! Got this game last week. Played it once and then watched your video to make sure we did everything right. I think we may have done everything right though because we starved to death.
I can relate William. Often the best way to know when you're doing things right, is to find that everything is going wrong.
I think this should have started with "You take a wound, now lets see why".
It took two years to watch, but I did it.
It's taken me 4 years 😅
I don't have 2nd Edition, but this is the best board game ever printed. With just scenario one it's an amazing game, but then there's so many scenarios and expansions. If I were stranded on a deserted remote island and had one game to choose...
If you ever get hungry, eating all of the components and rules will last you for a year... you can eat paper, right?
This video was incredibly helpful! This video and the Scythe tutorial convinced me to buy both games, and helped me learn the rules. You guys really set the gold standard for board game tutorial videos. Thanks Rodney!
You're very welcome Caleb - glad you liked it!
I dont mean to be so off topic but does any of you know of a method to log back into an instagram account??
I stupidly lost the login password. I would love any assistance you can offer me
HE is the reason I have bought EPIC TINY GALAXIES and this game!
"and take a wound"
lol, sadly, I think you are right :)
This makes me excited to get this game. I it when a co-op game kicks my teeth in and makes my friends and I cry.
Years later I still have to regularly return to this watch it played. It’s not your fault Rodney, your a great teacher, it’s that I only have space for a few games in my head and RC takes up a lot of space to remember. Relearning this has cause me now to completely forget how to play chess. 🤷🏻♂️
Oh, I re-learn games regularly! Hope this made the process a little easier :)
Thanx so much for covering this super tough game Rodney. You are sure to have helped countless people trying to learn this. All the best :)
I certainly hope it is helpful - glad you liked it!
Great video. The game has been set up on my table for 3 days while I’ve waded through the rule book. This video helped a ton!
So nice to hear, Alan!
I've very recently discovered this channel and, I must say, I love it. I play board games with my wife fairly often but reading rules isn't something I enjoy doing. You explain everything very clearly and seem like a genuinely nice person. Great stuff Rodney, keep it up! I look foward to buying this game soon ( and not having to go through pages of rules! ).
Thanks so much for the kind words. I'm glad you're enjoying the videos and finding them helpful :)
This video was a mighty undertaking but thanks for doing it. So happy to have it as a reference.
This one had a lot of moving parts to be sure - glad you found it helpful!
I just wanted to say thank you for making this awesome video. It is pretty detailed, but so well-structured that you can always follow easily. I admittedly had to watch various parts several times, because there's just so much information, but it's all wrapped up so nicely, I know feel like I can totally start playing the game. Thanks again, awesome job.
You're very welcome Tanja. There is a lot going on in this game, so I'm glad to hear it helped!
We always get excited when we see that you have a tutorial for a game we want to learn! Out of all the CZcams tutorial channels, you are by far the best one! You always explain things so clearly, thank you for what you do!
That's super nice of you to say - I'll keep making videos, so you can keep watching them :)
You are so stinkin' professional!!! This is near perfection. Nice job, and thanks again.
Glad you liked it Mike - thanks for the kind words.
4 years later this video is still so helpful. i just got this game and as soon as i have seen that there is video tutorial marketed on the box i came here. Nice video and very clear and easy to understand
I hope you have a great time playing!
Watching this and your play through really helped me get to grips with the game! Thanks team. What a game
So glad you had fun playing!
I just bought this game for my birthday. What a wonderful review. I often ponder how many times it takes you to get such clear directions. NIce Job
It can be a lot of work sometimes! Always glad to see it appreciated!
As always, we can count on Rodney for the best board game how to videos! The easiest way to learn games. We loved playing this one!
So glad you enjoyed Anthony - and thanks for the kind words :)
Amazing work as always. Thanks to you I discovered some stuff that I was doing wrong, this game can have some complex interactions sometimes.
Oh yes - lots going on here, and easy to miss things (especially with the earlier versions).
I made it to the end! Thanks as always for the clear rules and setup. I have received this game as a late Christmas gift and can't wait to play solo tonight to try it out!
Hope you have fun with your present :)
Just got this game and while I do plan to read the manual (I get a masochistic pleasure with super-long and detailed manuals), this video was extremely helpful and so well made! Thank you so much! Although I've played my fair of complex games, I think this one takes the cake! But after seeing this video I'm amazed by the deepness & elegance of the rules and by how well-designed the board & cards are to guide you through the experience! I get the sense this is a very immersive game that can invoke a great narrative if played with a group of imaginative individuals! Can't wait to play it!
Glad you liked the video and I hope you have a great time with the game Chris!
Just received my Collector's Edition from Game Found. The components are very nice. Im currently playing through the introductory scenarios (4 of them). I've watched and or listened to your great how to play several times over the last 3 years 😆 between the Introductory scenarios and Rodney's how to play, this was not too too tough to get into to. Winning/surviving is a whole other thing 😂
So glad to know this was helpful, even if it might not help you win :)
Thankyou for the very thorough explanation of the game rules. On all of your rules videos, that I have watched so far, you have done an excellent presentation.
Thank you for the kind words!
Can't wait to try it!! Set it up and watched entire video... I'm sure I'll be double checking a lot and need to look up solo mode. When I first got into games I saw this and totally ran away... now I crave complexity!!!! Amazing job as usual Rodney!!
And I mean when I saw this game, not this video LOL
Ha! I could understand if it was the video that caused you to run away too :) Have fun playing!
Congratulations to me for making it to the end of the video!! Great job as always Rodney! Thanks to you, I think I have a better understanding of how to play this beast of a game...
Now all the best winning it :)
probably the longest and heaviest explanation you ever did! Great job, awesome explanation!!!!!
Dust Warfare and Descent 2nd edition were a bit longer, but this was certainly a contender :)
I did it! I watched it all! This gargantuan monument to game design is one step closer to being regularly played at my apartment!
Thank you!
You're very welcome Ben - and congrats!
Made it through. Was a great refresher after not playing this for awhile. Thanks as always.
Good luck!!
There are SO many tacky and ill-made board game tutorials out there on this platform, but I honestly have to say that considering this game has SO much going on, this is explained in the most amazing way! Got this for Christmas with NO idea what to do, took 6 hours to complete a round, but hey, we had a great time, and your tutorial was the reason we made it this far in the first place! Merry Christmas everyone!
Thank you, this was super kind of you to say. This game has a lot going on, so I'm glad the video was helpful and I'm sure your future games will go faster (especially if you lose early ;) ).
Congratulations to me for finishing the video, now I can't wait for the game to come in the mail. Thanks Rodney for always making such great content and being a true gentleman!
Thank you for the kind words - so glad you enjoyed the video and I hope you have a great time playing!
Thanks Rodney, I'm learning so much with this video. The best in terms of clarity and organization.
Ah, very kind of you to say. Glad it was helpful!
Great video, thank you for labeling the different section of the video, it makes it very easy to go back to sections I need more clarification on.
Glad you like those!
This is still the best video in regards to explaining this game.
I'm planning to drag a friend down with me and play -Death Simulator: The Game- Robinson Crusoe this weekend.
You are far better and more efficient at explaining this than either me or the rulebook! :)
Thanks for the kind words and happy dying (I mean playing!)
I was waiting for you to release this video for me to start playing my copy of Robinson Crusoe. :-) Great tutorial. Thanks, Rodney!
Hope you have a great time playing!
Safe to say that I have been waiting for this for a long time. Thank you very much Master Smith. 😄
You're welcome Jonathan!
Thank you very much. I played this as a demo and even the crew there didn't explain it as good as you did !!
Thank you kindly - glad this was helpful!
That was pretty brutal watching. So many little details I’m worried I’ll forget when playing. Can’t imagine how much work went into creating the video. Hopefully once I play a little most of the rules will become intuitive and I won’t have to hold so much info in my working memory. Thanks for all your work!
Surviving the instructions is the first test - now to survive the island!
What an excellent tutorial! Just wanted to say thanks, your videos make a huge difference when trying to learn a game!
Very glad to help - thanks for the kind comments.
Just congratulated myself. This was a very demanding video with a lot of details! Good work Rodney!
Well done Grega!
Thank you Rodney... Seriously, you're like an board-games explanator machine!
Side note: I was sad 'cause I wanted a first edition copy (I prefer its box art) but seeing the updated components I've changed my mind :-D
Thanks for the kind words - glad you liked the video :)
Had to come back and watch this tutorial. After a gap of 2 1/2 years of it hitting the table, I pulled it out and played through a game with my 6 and 9 year old. We got a few rules wrong (like playing until everyone was dead instead of just me), but this was good for young ages because of all the open information. Thanks for a great video to help me knock the rust of the ol’ Robinson hinges!
Glad to assist, and pretty awesome to be able to tackle this one with your kids!
Thank you so much Rodney! Your How to play video is equal to 5 gameplays in terms of information and knowledge gained.
So nice to know it was helpful Angel!
Wow, that was long but also VERY helpful. Will (finally) be getting this to the table tonight and I thank you for this video.
Have a great time playing Ronald!
Simply, You are amazing, Thank you for the clarity, I can see why you excel in doing this.
JT, that's very kind of you to say - very nice to know you liked the video.
That was an extremely well done explanation with a high production quality. Thanks!!!
You're very welcome - thank you for the kind words.
Watched it a few years ago, back again to relearn, play a few scenarios and possibly then tackle, mystery tales.
Rodney you're an allstar! What a great video
Thanks Inky - glad you liked it :)
I commend you for doing this in only 45 minutes. Kudos to you, sir.
I would like to have found a way to do it faster, but this was a short as I could manage :)
Thanks for this Rodney - watched this start to finish and am excited to get my first game going
Have a great time adventuring!
fantastic tutorial, well done. been playing the game for some time now, but struggle to explain it to others without being the alphaplayer. you showed me a way to set things up easier to follow for outsiders :D
So glad it was helpful!
Excellent video, very helpful. Really looking forward to play our first scenario, just got our copy today. Thank you for the explanation!
You're welcome! I hope you have a good time playing :)
Wow this game is so complex. Fantastic. Great explanation. This is the go to place for rules. Thanks very much.
Very nice of you say, I'm glad you like the videos Jarsoslav!
Thanks for the great video!!! I got this game for my family to open up tomorrow for Christmas!!! Sounds really fun!!! Can't wait!!!
I hope you all have a great time playing!
We are getting ready to start streaming this on our Sunday night Incorrigible Twitch. This was a great refresher before we jump in and make fools of ourselves yet again! Thanks Rodney!
I saw some tweets that you were playing - I hope it went well! (or.. well enough... this game is tough!)
thanks for the clear and straightforward demonstration of the rules! i'll need to watch it a couple of more time to get om the top of it, but i guess that's just due to the complexity of the game
Three's a lot going on in this one, but I'm glad the video is helpful!
excellent video! cudoos to being so enthusiastic and clear throughout the whole video. Just very well produced!
Thanks so much!
I was planning on getting this game this December, how did you know I needed a tutorial? Thanx Rodney!
Happy to assist :)
I think it's difficult to make a video explaining so much, so compliments for making a really good one! :) this game looks awesome
Thanks for the kind words!
Hello Rodney, Like your other tutorials this is an excellent source for learning. I think you are the best tutor for teaching board games. Now, I have to find a way to buy this game from abroad since we have very limited options in Turkey. Thank you for your valuable and informative videos.
So glad you found the video helpful - good luck in your quest to track down a copy!
This has to be the best bg tutorial channel. Thanks for this!
Very kind of you to say - glad you enjoyed!
What an excellent video!!! Exactly what i was looking for, thank you :)
Edit: and i just saw the elaborate time stamps in the description.. hat of to you sir!!
Glad you liked it - thanks for the kind words :)
Thank you so much for helping great games become more accessible!
Thank you for the kind words Jonathan!
Last week I played the Castaways scenario with 3 other friends. We were badly banged up, but not out. Our wood production was high, our roof was strong, and all we had to do was gather 3 more wood during the production phase, finish our final wood pile, and build our palisade up to 1 to guarantee survival through the final night before victory. There was one problem though. I was on my last hit point. We couldn't afford to take any damage during the event phase.
We draw the event card... +1 to our palisade and draw another event card! We couldn't believe our luck. This card was actually helpful! But we weren't in the clear yet. We still had to draw our next card.
We draw our second event card... -1 to our palisade and draw another event card! We were freaking out! Had we drawn this card first, I would have died. It just so happened the previous card protected us! What amazing luck! What a truly unbelievable way to beat the game! This would be one of the best gaming moments for our group! All we had to do was survive our next card.
We draw the third event card... -1 health to everyone.
I died.
We played out the rest of the turn as if I didn't take any damage to make sure we would have won. We built our palisade up by 1, gathered our necessary food, and we found we were able to surviving anything the weather dice threw at us. We would have won. Would have, could have, didn't.
+NoNameC68 A great story! All the best on your future attempts to get the best of Robinson Crusoe!
Having learnt the game myself by reading and trial and error; you explained this incredibly well
Thank you kindly James!
Wife and I are excited to play. THANK YOU for making such great content
You're welcome - good luck surviving!
Gonna play this for the first time tonight. After finishing this tutorial I'm hyped and stressed out! Awesome!
Good luck!
I've had to watch this video twice! It's a great resource. I still am referencing the rulebook throughout each game though bc there's so much to remember O_o
There's a lot going on - but the more you play, the more it will sink in. Good luck!
Thank you for this. So much clearer than the other video I attempted to watch.
Very glad it was helpful Harvey!
Very well done! Just picked up this game and my neice and I were reading and learning. After watching this, we cant wait to get into it!!! ❤😊
Have a great time adventuring together!
Once again, very useful as you've made me realize where I was going wrong. I was paying both wood and fur costs for my camp structures. No wonder I wasn't getting anywhere! Hopefully, I can beat this scenario at last!
All the best in your next attempt!
So I managed to make it to the end of the video. (hooray!) Although there is a LOT of rules, you managed to explain the vast majority of them in a clear way. Now, I will hopefully win at least ONE game in my lifetime. Thank you very much for the video.
Glad you liked the video Mathieu!
Every time I need to learn how to play a game I come here, and every time I'm glad I did!
Thanks Dan - happy adventuring!
Whew! A marathon session. Great video (as usual), but a lot of info to take in. I am looking forward to sitting down with the game and working through these rules myself.
We do have a play through as well, which you may find helpful for seeing the rules in action. Cheers.
U have watched the play through videos as well. You and Pat work well together. The videos helped shed light on some of the questions. Now I just have to sit there and work through it myself.
Finished watching! Congratulation for me 😁.
I just got the base game and Treasure Chest expansion, since I mastered the rule because of both the rulebook and this video, the game run very smooth.
Love from Indonesia 🇮🇩
Love back from Canada! Glad you found it helpful!
2 years since this was posted and it's still the best one.
Thank you kindly.
Every single board game i have i learn it from you! You are the Rulebook Master! Thanks for your help! Gonna have it in a couple of days so i will watch the video for 2nd time..
Have a great time playing!
Thank you for this amazing explanation of the rules!
You're welcome! Thanks for watching!
thank you for this Rodney! can't wait to get my hands on this!
Glad you liked it!
this video does introduce me and makes me bought the game
thanks rodney for your tutorial, this video cetainly helps me a lot to learn this game without read the whole rule book (for me i feel reading this rulebook will more exhausted than reading rules of mage knight, lol)
Thank you so much for the kind words Jessica! Glad my videos are a help to you!
Well done, sir. Didn't realize what a monster this game is to cover rule-wise. It's A LOT easier when you just sit down and start playing.
The general principles of the game are pretty straight forward, but there are a lot of little rules that most people don't think of, or forget :)
Love your videos!! Thank you!! This really helped me understand the game!!
Very glad it was helpful - have a great time playing!
Preparing for my first practice game. This is great !
Good luck surviving the island!
Excellent tutorial for a tough game to digest. Every time you smile at the camera after some explanation, I just think to myself that all you're missing is a little wink. Great series
Glad you're enjoying - even without the wink ;)
Thank you! Excellent explanation throughout the whole video!
Really glad you found it helpful Refeez!
This is insanely well explained. Great video!
Very kind of you to say - thanks!
I was really happy when I saw you uploaded this, I knew it would be easier to follow than other explanations and was not disappointed! Looking forward to the play through.
Glad you liked the video :) Thanks for the kind comment.
Thank you so much for the rules explanation! It helped so much!
So glad to hear it Rob!
eesh - there's a lot to digest here. This is definitely one of those games I'd need to actually sit down and play to get the hang of. But, I definitely think it looks interesting and will see if I can try it at some point.
WE are now playing it through on the channel, and I think you might find that helps bring everything together. You can check it out here: czcams.com/video/qIDzj-V9h9s/video.html
Thanks for this! It's helped me get a good understanding of the rules
You're very welcome - have fun playing!
I did it - watched it all! Took me 3 days, but DONE! :) Thanks!
Way to go Robert!
Congrats to me...twice. The best way to get a solid start for me was to watch this video in bursts because it's pretty dense. Scan the rulebook and make an attempt at playing a few rounds and looking up rules as needed. Then once you feel like you are close to not cheating, watch this video again to glean the little bits of minutia that you were still missing. Great video! Thanks.
I agree. With the bigger more complex games, it's often good to go over things a few times, to really get a handle on the details!
YES I FINISHED!!! Wow this game is a learning curve.
There's a lot to it! Congrats to making it to the end :)
I finally got a chance to watch this video. I can see why people were comparing First Martian’s to this game. I am going to have to show this to my wife, to see what she thinks to see if it makes the list. We did not care for First Martians, but that was because it was way more administratively heavy than this looks. We also don’t usually go for games that have “scenarios” that mean that we may have to buy expansions to increase playability to keep it interesting. Thanks for a GREAT video. I miss the box flip and hit plaid shirt. Your “kerd” was in rare form on this one!! Best wishes to you Rodney!
Glad you liked it Frank, Kerns and all :)
i didn't know how to play. i watched this video and watched them play. i now know how to play. 10/10.
Have a great time on your adventures!
Another great video. Thank you Rodney!
Have a great time playing Jerry!
Thanks for this amazing video. I'll probably need some reffering in the rulebook the first couple of games, but I guess that is inevitable with a game of this size.
It does have a few moving parts :) Hopefully the video will help keep things clear!
Great video, thanks a lot for this it definitely makes picking the game up a lot easier. 😀
Very nice to know you found it helpful Andrew!
