    Hello Pierre,
I live in Mexico and have my own restoration antic car shop, I am specializing in the Mercedes Benz brand. When I was a teenager, my uncle had a w111 fin tail that I loved, I dreamed about this car and asked myself what a pleasure must have been to drive these beautiful engineered cars. Fast forward in time, my uncle gave me that car because he knew that I was going to restore it to its former glory. The car is in beautiful shape and every time I take my uncle for a ride, the smile on his face is worth all the effort that took to restore this car. I have always admired the 300 Adenauer, and a few days ago, I received a call from a friend and he told me that his mechanic had an old Mercedes in his shop and that he thought that it might interest me. Being the car nut that I am, I called this person and he told me that he had a 1957 3000D Adenauer that belonged to his grandfather, he said that it had been with the family for almost its entire life, so it’s a second owner car. I went to see the car and he had every part of the car classified and stored. I am now the owner of this beautiful car that I will restore. Thank you for the information that you provided in this video, it has and will be very helpful.

My high school science teacher in the late 1970's owned and drove a 1961 300 daily to school. Mr MacGilvray raved about how practical his big old Mercedes Benz was and once used it on his farm in South Australia to plough the fields when his tractor was broken down. Thanks Pierre for bringing back some great memories.

What a beautiful car. Your knowledge and appreciation are impressive. When I was in high school ('65-'68) a Mercedes 300 Cabriolet lived a half block away. A half block in ther other direction lived a Jaguar XK150. It down-shifted in front of our house each time it came home. Our family car was a '60 Cadillac Seventy-five Limousine. Since I've always been a car nut, I knew that was a special neighborhood even then. Keep on filming. You make me happy.

Pierre in Pierre fashion delivers such a complete and comprehensive overview of the vehicle, that the next time I see one at a event I will have an even deeper appreciation for the 300 Adenauer. Thank you so much for sharing Pierre Hedary !!!!

I did not know the rear quarter windows were removable. Kind of makes it like a pre-war touring car, just with the top up. Not sure if it was intentional or not, but if you squint your eyes, you can see some similarity between the 300d and a Stude Hawk...they would have complimented each other in the showroom. I love love the 600, but to me space is luxury, where you have a light, airy feeling, and this 300d has space in abundance. The 600 is more closed in, and of course anything of today is downright claustrophobia-inducing with consoles, plastic angularity, low rooflines, and electronic doodads coming at you from every direction.

I owned a 1960 300d. Unfortunately, it was badly rusted. The guy I bought it from had not taken care of it and in Northeastern, Ohio where winter salt was used to the extreme the unfortunate 300d did not fare well. Again, the guy I bought it from was unable to sell it and had it sitting in his barn, but he asked if I would be interested, and I was. I remember telling him that if it ran I would buy it. If you could imagine (this was in 1971) that he wanted $400 for it (this car had sold new for around $16,000.00, which was big, big money in 1960) I told him that if it ran I would pay him $200.00. So we went to the barn, and literally chased the chickens out of the car, he put his boat battery in it an some gas from his lawn mower in the tank and attempted to start it and nothing. Being familiar with Mercedes I asked him to lift the trunk lid, and he asked, "why would I want to do that?" I told him that the electric fuel pump was in the rear and if it was running you would be able to hear it when he tried to start the car. He tried starting and I heard nothing. So, we took the inspection cover off in the trunk put a voltmeter on the leads to the fuel pump, he turned the ignition key and there was voltage, but no turning of the pump. So, we took the pump out, and found that it was all, "gummed up" at its impeller. He cleaned it and put it back in. Hit the key and the car started immediately! He, myself, his wife and two kids piled in for a test drive and the car for having sat for about two years ran and drove beautifully! I paid him the $200 and came back a day later to pick it up and drive it home. I really wanted to keep the car, but the frame was so badly rusted that I was afraid that the whole car would collapse on itself, so I sold it for $500.00. But it was a fabulous ride and quite a conversation piece regardless of all of the rust. It was grey with a beautiful red leather interior.

Gilles, if your looking at a 380 with such high mileage you should be aware of several things- the condiiton of the timing chain, whether the head gaskets leak oil or not and the level of oil consumption. If the engine is dry, no oil is burned and the chain is ok, and of course the paint and interior are nice, then I would say go for it.

Really disappointed to hear how high the cost of ownership must be, especially after seeing jaw dropping 600 w100 running costs. the w189 is stunning inside and out, And so under appreciated. aside from the 5 digit repair costs and difficulty in finding rare parts. I hope to be able to afford this one day.
