  • Get ready to elevate your dessert game with these irresistible red velvet madeleines! With a hint of cocoa and a touch of tangy buttermilk, these red velvet madeleines are a symphony of flavors that will leave you craving more. Not only does it have a beautiful red colour that's bound to stand out but It's light, deliciously soft and moist!
    Watch the madeleine molds fill, then get baked to perfection until they emerge from the oven with their signature humps and golden edges. (side note: did you know proper french madeleines should have humps. I've seen far too many people make flat madeleines). Whether you're hosting a tea party, celebrating a special occasion, or simply craving a sweet indulgence, these red velvet madeleines are sure to impress
    Steps:
    1. Melt butter in the microwave then set it aside.
    2. In a large bowl, combine buttermilk, sugar, salt and egg. Mix with a whisk until it's combined.
    3. Add flour, cocoa powder and baking powder. Mix until there's no more lumps.
    4. Add the melted butter and mix until it's smooth and shiny.
    5. Add red food colouring. Mix until the batter turns red and no brown remains.
    6. Cover the batter and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
    7. Brush melted butter on the madeleine pan. Only brush 8 shells since the recipe makes 8. Place the madeleine pan in the fridge.
    8. Preheat the oven to 400F (204C)
    9. Divide the batter evenly onto the madeleine pan.
    10. Bake at 400F (204C) for 3 minutes then bake at 356F (180C) for 8 minutes.
    11. Release the madeleines from the pan. Either leave them on its side to cool or transfer them to a wire rack
    12. Once cooled, sprinkle the madeleines with powdered sugar then enjoy!

    tip: if you don't have a madeleine pan, you can also make this in a muffin pan though it won't have the cute shell shape.
