    20lb braid to 25lb fluro leader. Small 1 circle hook through the nose free lined. If fishing deeper, bite the bottom part of the tail on the greenback. Chum the waters with squished greenies as others have mentioned. Cast as close to the mangroves as you can or even skip one under (i know you're good like that). If you see a hit on one of the chummers, reel in and cast to it as fast as you can. Im in tampa and this is all we do for snook, reds and even trout. Love the content, dont listen to the haters. You've worked hard and are living a life many would dream of. Myself included. Tight lines man

    Hey Aaron. I think you've done a great job with your videos these past few years. It's been fun to watch as you've navigated your channel to reflect who you are and what you want to share with the world. You come across the screen as having a really good vibe and I can't understate how much I appreciate the mindfulness, care, and respect that you consistently give to our natural resources. I'm glad that there came a day that you decided to start sharing your voice on youtube. Thank you.

    Just a tip from an inshore charter captain who snook fishes nearly daily. Snook have a larger bottom jaw short top jaw designed to get under bait and eat upwards. You want your bait on the surface or near it. It would be effective if you took the jig off and just used a flat line weightless J or circle hook whatever you prefer 👍🏼 also chumming helps them get fired up. Squeeze a few baits in your hand and toss them out helps them get going

  • @thecamocanoe
    @thecamocanoe Před 2 měsíci +14

    Live chumming can get the snook to really turn on. Get about a half dozen in your bait net and give them a good squeeze to disorient them. Then toss them to the spot. They’ll usually swim in circles on the surface……you’ll see the “Pops”. Then you toss in your hooked bait. We use fat wiffle ball bats with the end cut off to sling the chummers to the mangrove edge.
    Edit: LOL…you just tossed out some freebies after I posted.

    Tossing squeezed wb up near the mangroves and watching the snook pop them on the surface is about as much fun as catching them 😎. Put a 2/0 or 3/0 circle in one and try to keep that snook out of the mangroves! 😛

Was absolutely laughing so hard. 1st "I gotta get my bait into that little hole in the Mangroves...easy enough"....waiting to see a perfect skip cast because I know my bait would be stuck in the Mangroves. Cut to next scene...Parked in the hole! 😂😂😂.

    The elusive Snook! My favorite eating fish. The crux is not only their power, but their razor gill plates will slice through light mono in a heartbeat, and they're weary of heavy line and unnatural presentation. Best presentation I've found is freeline. For open water beach swaths your tackle is great but heavier is necessary around structure for slots or bigger. I'm convinced they know you can't spear them. They gather in schools and laugh at you as you get close enought to almost pet them.

Our favorite bait back in the day (80's) for Snook was small crocker or small Mojarra, Like 4-5". Snook is probally one of the best tasting fishes. I also caught then on live Shrimp in Puerto Rico when I was really young

    Fished snook for twenty plus years by my self at night in Fort Lauderdale in the evening was my most productive time around bridges high tide going out pier 66 area . Great fish to catch used mirror lure and whit buck tails along with live finger mullet . In hr or two catch my limit keep 5 pounders throw back bigger ones this would feed my mom and grandmother as they loved them . Caught from 30+ pounders to 1 pounders always an exciting catch! They spook easily and found night time was more productive that’s why I fished alone after sunset ! Enjoy your videos brings back my younger experiences fishing in Fort Lauderdale!

Go to bait is either croakers/pin fish/finger mullet, larger bait = larger fish. Generally I run 40# braid w/30# flouro leader, 5/7 circle hook. Movin water add 1/2-3/4oz egg. Hope it helps a little

We "numb" the bait with a moderate "squeeze" before we toss them out. Helps to slow them down and create a state of confusion. Cheers!!

Just free float a fat shrimpy top water with like 20-30 lb line and cast on the shadow line of a bridge or catwalk. I grew up in St Lucie County and that's really the only thing I miss about fla is the salt water fishing. I trout hunt now lol but they're an apex pred so they are always found with big tarpon and cuda jacks etc

    Try hooking your bait under the back fin or under his pelvic fin. I guided for snook and redfish for many years. I like 30# floro leader and 2/0 hook. Add a slip 1/8 egg sinker to slide down on top of the hook. Throw a few crippled baits out from the mangroves to bring the fish out to you...your trip looked like a lot of fun...btw: I had my first date on a snook trip at night at the mouth of the Caloosahatchee River...she caught fish and always wanted to go again!
