  • After spending it's post Chessie days in the isolated coal fields of Kentucky, a C&O GP-9 was being called to locomotive heaven with its frame being re-purposed. The unit showed up for scrapping will it's original variable orifice S-5T. It's a wonder some this horn didn't fall victim to the "Midnight Railway Supply" on the way out of isolation.
The horn was not being kept in the rebuilding process so it made its way into the collectors hands. I do not own this horn, however, it is owned by the company I work for.
All bronze tabbed heads with new diaphragms. The 55 bell was silent in this clip. This horn still had all the original steel wire tied to the bolt heads to prevent fasteners from getting loose. I had to remove all that unfortunately to get it working again.

This one has a very nice tone to it!! Older horns where so good, now they don't sound as good as they used too :(
