      Now if Kanye hadn't engaged in the exact same words and actions, you wouldn't be a hypocrite, and it wouldn't be clear that the 100x more outrage is due to it being a gay man doing it. Save the homophobic dog-whistles about it being "a gimmick, tired, lame, etc" because we all know you understand "dog-whistling" just fine the second a racist white person uses it to try to disguise their racism!!

    Watching the video, I see that the title is actually posing a question rather than making a statement. 🤔I'd say the answer is "yes," assuming Lil Nas X is willing and can still produce hit-worthy music. Personally, I believe Lil Nas X's past hits consists of music good enough to speak for itself, and those songs could've had similar popularity with an aggressive marketing strategy sans any trolling or forced controversy. Panini and Industry Baby are a good example of this, with the latter being 6X platinum and having 1.9B streams on Spotify alone, making it his most streamed song on the platform. This also means that Industry Baby outperformed Montero, which was previously Lil Nas X's most controversial song. It's also interesting that Industry Baby reached 6X platinum within 17 months, while Montero needed 19 to reach the same milestone.

    Hadn't stopped to listen to the new Nas X song until after watching this video. I think the Jesus Christ marketing might just be more polarizing because the last real big one was the "Devil worshipping" (though like he explained it wasn't that at all) of the "Montero" rollout. I feel like instead of the Jesus-imagery, Nas X could've made the marketing themed around Michael Jordan's comeback the first time with the Bulls. Had a whole skit around the infamous fax as the first announcement of new music. The video could be catered around moments from The Last Dance, like Rodman's vacation to Vegas, the flu game, and even do a Space Jam parody where he's playing against the Devil still, but make it so it's more like the Mon-stars. Idk, this was just the thought that came to mind after watching the videos.

    Todd in the Shadows said something in his video on Katy Perry's WITNESS album about his theory of there being two types of pop stars. According to him, there are the musicians that have the constant persona and following that'll stick with them through everything and keep up with every release (such as Jay-Z, Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Lady GaGa, The Weeknd, and so on), and the type that are more flash-in-the-pan and go away once their hits dry up (such as Nelly, Marilyn Manson, Paula Abdul, and so on). While he said there are some artists who sorta straddle the line between the two types, in that they lean towards the second type but may go closer to the first if they keep having hits (like Bruno Mars and Dua Lipa), I'm now wondering if Lil Nas X is starting to lean towards the second type in this case. If his new set of songs are starting to flop, maybe he will slowly become irrelevant once his hits dry up.

    The craziest part about all of this is that if it were any other religion there would be outrage. If he dressed up as Buddha or mocked the Hindu culture he would be immediately called out. So why is it ok to mock Christianity especially when it is not the only religion in the world that is against same sex anything? I’m not saying these ideals are ok but I do think the hypocrisy is very loud and obnoxious. Doing something you know has offended millions of people in the past is not “art” it’s just simply offensive. Mocking something people dedicate their lives to believing and fulfilling is not edgy, it’s just mean regardless of the religion it’s being aimed towards.

    All he does is doing something super controversial that get people mad so they talk about him but apparently it became so tiring to the point that they stopped being mad anymore and thus no publicity for him thats why his last song flopped

      He made an entire album where the point is that he doesn’t want to be seen as the messiah of hip hop culture, which people were painting him as. Quite a bit more nuanced than “TEE HEE I LOVE SATAN”

    I usually try to steer clear of anybody that uses satanic symbols in their music (e.g. Lil Nas X, Ozzy Ozbourne, Doja Cat, Lil Uzi Vert, ect.) Do I acknowledge that they have talent, of course! However, as a guy who grew up in a Christian household, I don't like to see the religion I grew up around disrespected. It doesn't matter if you're black or white, gay or straight, man or woman, if you use Christianity as a form of clout, I won't listen to your music. That's just my personal beliefs speaking though.

    Say what you want about him...but his music is consistently good! He has been low key releasing singles from his next project directly to his fans without any gimmicks and not one of them songs has been bad! "Tennessee" with Kevin Abstract is a great song! "Light Again" is another up tempo banger! He is talented as hell and I am sure he will bounce back. The music speaks for itself. I wish him the best I think he is dope and I am glad he is continuing to open doors for other black gay artist on the music scene! His first album Montero sold very well and it was literally one of the best albums of that year! I'm still listening to it!

    7:15 ive always hated christian preachers like this, they always whine about how christianity is being censored and persecuted by secular media but when someone does something they dont like theyre the first people to condemn them and call for censorship

    Personally I view Lil Nas X path similar to Tyler The Creator the only chance he has to maintain his relevancy is to ditch the controversy and home in on his musical craft and develop as an Artist,He really needs his "Sunflower Boy" to keep him on relevent or he will just die in popularity as a fleeting memory of short term controversy

  • @Spermwhales93
    @Spermwhales93 Před 4 měsíci +33

    I don't think Lil Nas X will actually be bothered too much if he drops out of the spotlight due to people getting bored of his marketing/courting of controversy. He's had his time in the spotlight, and the success he got before he took his hiatus has definitely earned him enough money to set himself up for life. It seems like he's just chasing bonus achievements at this point in his career.
