If I understood it right, if you're late for a game, your opponent can complain to the referee and you automatically lose?

whatsup with chess players arriving late? why is this common. doesn't happen in any other sport
@@lakshyamongia3270 only common for magnus because he is the greatest player of all time in chess, so he plays so many games that nowadays he gets late
@lakshyamongia3270 they're all addicted to bullet so playing "just one more game".
Magnus came earlier than the opponent for the first time💀
I can relate 😫
U know u are late when magnus is sitting there
Dude’s not even being arrogant, he genuinely wanted a fair game
Fair fight? if u give the opponent full time and u give 5 sec for magnus i dont think still this is a fair fight
@@rathish43 thats not how chess work. Magnus carlsen is still human in the end of the day
P.s ofc, unless his opponent being 1000-1500 elo or smt
@@vuanhuc3582Ha! Magnus Carlsen is anything but human! He's a chess-playing machine, and even a 1000-1500 elo opponent would be no match for him!
@@ElPollito17 Ignorance has nothing to do with it; Magnus Carlsen is the highest rated player because of his impressive skill, not because of the ratings system. Any 1000-1500 elo opponent can beat him if they strategize correctly; the numbers only speak to how often a player wins, not necessarily how skilled they are. Magnus's skill is undeniable, but don't let that go to your head.
@@rathish43 so true seen one video of him being late to a 3min match and still beat the guy in 30 sec. Lol

@@notethanyt Chess is not a sport because it lacks the physical exertion, athleticism, and direct physical competition typically associated with traditional sports. While it requires mental skills, it is primarily a game of strategy and intellect. Some may consider chess a mind sport, but it doesn't fit the conventional definition of a sport.

Magnus remembered how he was more than 2 mins late at a game and his opponent voluntarily delayed his moves to make the game fair. So, he thought it was time to repay the debt
Magnus has been on either side of that situation a number of times now. And it is not out of disrespect either but rather he is frequently over booked by his handlers. Yet he does not want to blow any one off or come off as rude/spoiled. So he tries to honor every single commitment put to him even if it leaves him with virtually no time for error. Magnus truly is trying to be the best ambassador for the game.

For you Guys, it depends on the game Type and the Event. They need to start it at some point at the Blitz Event they waited as well for some time
Has to be said that when Magnus arrived late recently, his opponent also did not want to start the clock, but the arbiter did anyway. Then, when Magnus arrived, his opponent intentionally made slow moves as to even the time out by the end of the opening moves
Saw that video. Chess truly is a gentleman's game
And magnus had no mercy lmao

So? Different opponents
Magnus and his Opponent have completely denied these claims. They both admitted he was a slow player. PERIOD.
He got a fair game and was polite towards his opponent, what a guy

What a great gesture by Magnus Carlsen! Can't believe he respected his opponent by actually arriving on time!
He refused to run the clock when he could because his opponent was too late. Sportsmanship.
Duda is a brilliant player
It's certainly possible (but unlikely) that Magnus did this "gesture" to throw off his opponent. Duda might have spent the first minute of the game wondering why Magnus was so nice, and that could have thrown off his game.
it’s not about his arrival on time lol. if you’re late to a chess match the arbiter can start the clock and the opponent’s timer will go down till they show up and make a move, leaving them with less tine
@@ohwow9559 The guy's comment is chuckle-worthy. Magnus himself has run into at least one chess tournament with his time ticking down because he was late. In one clip that I saw, his opponent tried to give him additional time but the judge forced the timer to start. Magnus only had like 40 seconds left when the game started, and still managed to win.

Ive seen this happen before where the opponent held the arbiter off when magnus wasnt on time. It’s quite simple actually, magnus being late frequently makes it easier for himself to be kind to other that are late.
I'm less shocked about him being kind and more shocked that he arrived on time 😂
He is so humble and his behaviour compells me to think that humanity still has hopes and the best time of humans is yet to come and we are still evolving.
What do you mean he's being humble? He's a PROFESSIONAL. Should he do some bullshit and he's going to be cancelled and gonna work for minimum wage at mc'donalds for the rest of his life. Think before praising someone like this.
It's up to each person to make that difference in the world, no matter how small the gesture may seem.
I think he is not humble, but he is also not arrogant. He is extremely factual and straightforward, and he is fair.
