    what causes flexible endoscope to buckle on the umbilical cable on a 190 colonoscope?

    • @LosAngelesEndoscopeCenterLLC
      @LosAngelesEndoscopeCenterLLC  Před 7 lety

      The umbilical cord is made of a mono coil covered by a wire braid and has an adhered outer plastic cover. When the minimum bend radius is exceeded, or bent too sharply then on the inside curve, then the wire mesh will bend past the recovery point, and be permanently deform the wire mesh leaving a little pocket where the adhesive is torn away from the mono coil.
      The strain relief boot is designed to help prevent this from happening. You will usually see this just off the end of the boot and if gone unchecked can crack the plastic and fluid can enter the scope through there.
      A well engineered umbilical can increase the life expectancy. Although to educate the handlers that the best cure is not to let the tube be bent past the point of no recovery.

    can it be stuk bent in a patient as an accident ?

    • @LosAngelesEndoscopeCenterLLC
      @LosAngelesEndoscopeCenterLLC  Před 7 lety +1

      It can happen although it is rare for a control cable, a collar or a rivet to break in a patient during a procedure due to stress. In most cases, the cable breaks and you lose control in that direction and the doctor will let the scope go loose and safely extract it. The smaller the space the more likely the problem.
