  • My supplies have arrived! Took a bit longer than anticipated to get down the mountain to the lake for runway building but it's done and over with now. Much appreciation to Sheldon Air Service! Now I can get to work on new solar and wind turbine installation.

    So the little cabin you showed at the very end, with the telescope, was that on Denali? Maybe a shelter? You do have an amazing place, and a lot of work in the winter months. Keeps you strong!

      That little cabin at the end is about 30 miles away near Mt. Denali. It used to be the only cabin I could see with binoculars or spotting scope in my entire view of the surrounding wilderness. Took that video through the spotting scope on x60 power.

      @@Lst2ltdwn I have no idea. Likely it’s just someone’s cabin. They definitely don’t have to worry about trees falling on the roof. It’s all out there by itself on barren ground. I’ll have to get better footage of it on a super clear day. I estimate it’s at least 30 miles away.

    My goodness, the exquisiteness of the mountain panorama brought me to tears. Such undefiled beauty as the Creator formed it is almost too majestic to look upon. You have chosen a home in a most unforgiving environment and genuine hard work is required to survive there let alone live ...and yet you have done just that. Oh, not to mention the small plane runway you carved out of the snow to have supplies dropped off that need hauling UP the mountain to the cabin. Not a particularly polite descriptive word but I'm at a loss to find another that confess exactly what I am....GOBSMACKED !!!!
    Totally, completely, and utterly gobsmacked !!!!

    What a difference a couple of days of backbreaking work & some sunshine makes! The thing is, even when it's at it's bleakest, your place offers a lavish bounty of food for the eyes & there's probably not even a handful of places on this earth that can say the same. But when the weather breaks? Oh my, my, my....
    PS) That runway was incredible, so straight it looks like a surveyor laid it out! But you should have brought the pilot up for coffee to see the view. You have access to the very same view he has scooting around up in the sky around there, except you don't need to hassle with the flight review & med certificate every couple of years!

    Huh, this looks familiar... pack a runway for Dave, Dave takes off door, help him spin the plane by pushing on the rivets. Our system for getting things back to the house/pantry seams easier than yours, though. I wish I knew where you were. You should send us an email with your Google pin. We have friends with a cabin up there but I don't like using location names because most people like their privacy. Unfortunately anyone can find us since the lodge is on Google maps....

    Great video. I’ll bet your relieved you got the trail to the lake done and the plane made it ok. I worked up north and lived at our remote place for a few years. There were times the snow was deep the whole six miles, most of the time it was the last 1000 feet of our own trail. I always remember the feeling of relief when the trails were in and and the cabin is warm. Now they say I need supervision at my age in the winter.

    Good morning Ed, it's 6:55 am and am sitting here having my morning coffee watching you do all that work, lol. You had a beautiful day to do it all and get your supplies in. I was expecting a Beaver to fly supplies in. How long did you lay the air strip out? Living in Paradise can be hard work but, those benefits sure are worth it. Thanks for sharing with us.

    • @MountainMariner
      @MountainMariner  Před 2 lety +2

      It took a few hours to run the snow machine back and forth for the runway. Cessna 185 brought these supplies in. Wish I had a Beaver. And a pilots license. But the reality is it’s cheaper to charter than to own an aircraft. My personality does not need to become a pilot I’m pretty sure. I would spend more money than I make if that was the case…

    Hi Mountain Mariner,
    I was directed here by Alone in Remote Alaska so there are a few women who are also into this kind of life. I myself envy you.
    The beauty you experience cannot be described in words.
    Even though I'm sure it's hard sometimes it's well worth it. Living in society can also be very tough. I read this quote somewhere,
    The more powerful and original a mind, the more it will incline towards the religion of solitude.
    It's not for everyone but you have heaven in front of you.
