The self-sustained Spiral-tube Water wheel (Also known as Spiral Pump) is an effective water pumping device which uses the kinetic energy of flowing water for its operation. It works on the principle of spiral tube which take water in one half of its rotation while bring in some air in the other half, this cycle repeats and the air get compressed; this compressed air is then used to push the water at the outlet. This water-wheel is the combination of spiral tube and turbine blades; the blades only help the spiral to rotate hence replace the motor in conventional pumps which is run by electricity. This makes water wheel special as its running cost is zero and requires very less maintenance

In this system the water rises only upto the radius of this spiral wheel, And no continuous flowing. Four opening with 90° spiral four hose may will continuous flowing water.

The water was raised to height of 12 ft, for continuous flow yes ur right, one can have more than one wheel on single shaft for more head and continuous flow.

Hi, we live by a man made lake, would love for a small scale to just drip water my small bed garden, and solar as energy, because we don't always have strong winds to rotate it. any ideas or can show us how to make one or where to get one. TIA

    Hello Chief,
Thanks for the good work. Did your students ever publish this work somewhere? I'd like to look at some of their data gathered from this project. I built one DIY project but at that time of the season flow rates in the stream was so low.
I'd like to connect with one of your students if possible

Only problem is finding flowing water all times of the year

Will it work on steady water?

It just use the flow energy to pump water from low level to high level. Works well in hilly areas.
