So in his endgame suit he made is shield and other close combact weapons like projections

Tony also upgraded his sheild from na o tech sheild to a wakandan holographic sheild so that his nano particles don't get used and destroyed while defending an attack to his shield

In iron man 3 when tony fall into the river he was drowning because of his non waterproof suit so he developed his suit in avengers age of ultron and made it water proof thats
His mark 6 suit is waterproof in avengers first movie
In iron man 3 mark 42 is just a prototype he was working on it is not fully functional
That why he was drowning
