Today I'm back onboard Air Canada.. alone! After my last flight on their 787-9 in Business Class over from Mexico City, there's certainly a lot of room for improvement. I have a 14 hour layover first to contend with at Toronto international airport.
My second Air Canada flight will be on their 777-300ER in Business Class. I'm told there should be a number of improvements with their soft product for this routing including some bedding this time! I'll also get to meet the captain and this time I will have no issues filming as Air Canada are aware of this flight. This does make reviewing this impartially a bit difficult as you'll see, service is certainly adapted to account for my presence. However I will say I experienced some of the best cabin crew onboard, a huge contrast to my previous flight. The question remains.... will I fly Air Canada again (interestingly awarded North America's best airline). Let's find out.

Take a secret friend on the same flight as you, next time! Interested in seeing whether there is a contrast in service. Air Canada has spoiled several flights for me (far before the pandemic excuse) and I've been booking with ANYONE else ever since. The last straw was standing at the front of the check-in line, watching the two attendants with empty desks gossip about the weekend for 20 minutes. When they finally casually called us up to the desk, they were like "oops, you missed check-in! Want to pay for the next flight?" Fortunately the supervisor was sitting across the hallway at another desk and was well aware we were standing there the whole time. We were still late to our destination, but at least the new flight was comped. Never took AC again (and never will!)

I can personally say after flying Air Canada first class from Dublin to Los Angeles in August of 2022, the first experience sounds par for the course. We flew the 787 which was a great experience but the staff were rude, curt, and overall offputting. We were served dinner at 9am and when we asked why made to feel like we were the idiots for questioning a dinner serving at breakfast. The food was lousy as well. I have blocked AIr Canada from my flying choices and recommend the same to anyone doing long-haul flights, especially in the business or first-class space. Far too many competitors with substantially better service.

I appreciate seeing your experiences on both flights. Pre-pandemic, I was taking quarterly flights on the 787 between Calgary and London. While my experience wasn’t the VIP service you got on the second flight, it really was much closer to that than what you saw in your first leg. I do feel that your first flight really was an outlier from the usual experience in AC business class on the 787.

I had an awful Air Canada customer service experience. Connecting flight from SFO to Toronto...I had to run to the gate because the pervious flight was late. When I got there the gate attendants said they were going to close the doors even though I told them that a bunch of people were on this flight including my elderly parents and they were all en route. The people at the gate were extremely rude and had ZERO empathy. The crew on the flight was equally rude and didn't seem to want to be there at all. It was our first and last Air Canada flight.
