  • In this video, I talk about the confusing nomenclature in metal-on-metal (MoM) hip arthroplasty and ASR (articular surface replacing) and show you my approach to make things easy (at least in my understanding).
Others might have other opinions and use different terms different than I do, fair enough! Please comment below if you agree or disagree.
The terms I talk about are:
    Pseudotumors
    Metallosis
    Osteolysis
    ALTR (Adverse Local Tissue Reaction)
ARMD (Adverse reaction to metal debris)
ALVAL (Aseptic Lymphocyte-dominated Vasculitis Associated Lesion)

My doctor has recently diagnosed me with fibroxanthoma in the hip. He did a very poor job of explaining what and why that means. Please tell me more about fibroxanthoma in hip in combination with extreme pain in the joint and groin area. Thank you

Hey Doc I have a question if I post my results from my MRI which is says. Fluid collection adjacent to the right hip arthroplasty consistent with pseudtumors. What is it telling me

@@DrChristophAgten I have to see my orthopedic doctor tomorrow he's gonna walk me through. The imaging from the mri. Long story short I had a hip replacement August 2019 and I went to 2 different therapy places. Because of the pain I kept feeling towards the inner right side of the groin area. So I went back to my hip surgery took xrays and everything looks perfect with both hips. So then I saw orthopedic doctor and just got MRI. And after I read about the pseudomass I did research online. Man just sounded like rumours to me. But didn't say that on the MRI report. Simple appearing fluid adjacent to the right hip arthroplasty consistent with pseudomass.

I should not give advice here, but pseudotumors, or particle disease should not really form within the first year, but again, I can't make a statement without the original images. If you are interested in a second opinion (and not U.S/Canada citizen) we could set it up. let me know

Please Please help! I had a right hip revision two years ago. Apart from a screeching noise I recovered well. At around the six month mark I was getting more pain , an MRI and subsequent aspiration of a fluid collection revealed Metalosis. The metal liner was scratching the femoral neck wearing a groove, I had a large amount of Cobalt around my hip replacement. I have since had 3 debridements including exchange of modular components. Unfortunately my pain has continued to get worse. Last week I had a cortisone injection targeting the tissues right by the acetabulum which gave good relief for two days and then I could feel the pain returning rapidly. I really don’t know what to do. I am in the UK and have a good surgeon but I now am begging him to remove the whole implant and give my leg some time without a foreign object in it in the hope things might settle down. I am totally lost as to what to do next.

Why don’t you want to use the term Pseudotumor?
