After finding and rescuing this unique CHP icon, we got a chance to bring it back to where it all started, CHP Fleet Command!
We had a crazy visit with California Highway Patrol! Finding out how into cars everyone was, driving around in the Unit and possibly getting some rare parts!

@AppalachianMountaineer1863 That would be nostalgic, but impractical. As occupied as a lot of drivers are with their eyes in their phones instead of the road ahead and aside to them. That's why a lot of municipalities went to LED Lighting, they are extremely visible which the the old Rotary using incandescent bulbs aren't. HOWEVER on second thought There is adapting Rotary with LED Tech So what you're suggesting does have merit.

Once, i was driving too fast on snowpack at a ski area, and plowed the nose 3 feet into a snowbank. No damage, just snow. After that I put an Auburn Posi on the rear. Then it was a tank. @@driveway_finds I watched the videos of when you first got it. I dont think yours is the one I saw. Even adding the 20 + years its been since I looked at it , the one I saw was in much better shape. The doors and roof were still white , the body was not rusty at all , the seats were still in pretty good shape , it still had the original rear bumper , wheels ,whip antenna , front bumper push bars and spotlight. Yeah its debatable that time and people could of made the changes , but I definitely dont remember seeing the hand written numbers on it. I went back and looked at my records of when I bought the ford and it was September of 2003. The guy I bought it from had everything advertised in hemming's motor news (where I found the ford). There is a chance that the suburban was also advertised as well. You may want to look into the hemming's archives from months before that and it may turn up a lead for more info on it?? Ive been trying to remember the guys name but cant. It was definitely in Colfax Ca. way back in the woods. Excellent video! I lived in Pennsylvania, there was a guy that happenchance own a state police mustang 5.0 from 1988. He always showed up at car shows. The kicker was he is also a state cop too! he too, like you went through many hurdles trying to find original parts. Back in 1988-1990ish parts were interchangeable with crown victorias and chevy caprices such for mountings, but the items were somewhat one-off different. the cb system, boosters and such were mounted INSIDE trunk while the wiring went into a slave box which was inside the original radio bay. so it wouldn't stick out. the driver wouldn't skin his knuckle alive trying to change gear. there was no shotgun mount in the mustang. However the mustang was beefed up. about 350 horsepower, (which was a lot back in 1988) the original power was 225 maybe? had one row blue lightbar. side spot lights. cb's, antennas, extra battery packs, walled off rear compartment with wire cage, it was a cool sight

@@driveway_finds that’s awesome!!! I’ve got a set of 16.5-9.50 super fleets bias plys on my 77 bonanza. Love how they look. And they get around great in snow and mud. My truck was the only one this last winter that would climb our hill to get to the cattle lot.

[10:37] Sweet! Antenna Specialists spring and ball mount. It's crazy, but I think I still know the part number. It's M-3AD. A/S was top of the line for Ham/CB comm gear. Still have a ball mount and spring on the Driverside rear Step fender of my Orange '68 C/10 Stepside. [Possible CalTrans surplus...] I have an antenna on it, but I haven't gotten a working CB to stick in that truck yet.
