Hi, in this video I attempt to fix a DJI OSMO MOBILE 6 smartphone stabiliser with no power. This is a current product still for sale in places like Argos, Amazon for £135. Can it be fixed, let's find out.

Remember that this is just for entertainment and I am not an expert in these repairs. The processes in the video may not be the best way, the correct way or the safest way to fix these things. I do love fault finding and trying to fix broken things, so I hope that comes across in this 'Trying to FIX' series. Many thanks, Vince.

Thanks for the great videos mate, and for the work you put in for the community. 🙏
A few tricks to help people never loose smd components like caps and resistors, diodes and other types of smd's that can be done like this.
    1) for example never take them off completely (or as rarely as possible) and just solder them or drag them on one of the pads and leave one leg on the pcb not connected. That way they are in their exact position and if you have mutiple caps that are the same size and accidently move the paper you put them on or the mat you work on you're fked 😅 (ask ne how i know)
    2) As a general rule, if you have multiple caps shorted near an ic, most of the time (like 80-90%) it is the ic that is shorted
    3) As you found out (unfortunately a little too late 😅 ) is that for the best and fastest results, it is always a good practice to isolate the motherboard all by itself meaning to disconnect any connector or any wires coming in or going out. I know, it was soldered but still, that made you go crazy for a minute there (i know i would)
    4) When looking for a fault at something that has wires that go to like in you case and in laptops screen connectors for example it is always a good idea to disconnect the wires from both boards and check the continuity of the wires and for shorts between the wires as you did here 👍
    5) Careful with thinking a motor is a short. Even if it has low resistance, some motors are designed that was so best way to go about it is to disconnect the motor altogether as you also did. Great job 👍👍
    6) When you solder desolder with hot air near connectors like that, to protect any plastic connector flood the connector with flux. The flux will protect it from burning
That's pretty much all that i could relay to the video as small hopefully helpful advice 😁
Again, thanks for the gr8 work you do for the community 🙏🙏

Nice fix vince. As you said you should of done this thing first and checking this thing first but it's all a learning curve as you go along. After watching your videos I've learnt such a lot. I actually fixed a friend's lg tv that had all three HDMI ports come of the main board and managed to re solder back on and they all work great. My first tv fix.

WOW! Brilliant video Vince! Great job at fault finding and repairing that. I was a bit worried about that connector next to the cap, I'd probably have used the iron or alternatively heated the board from the bottom using the rework station just in case. Well done and keep up the great work. Looks a nice bit of kit too! Best wishes Mick.

Good job. If you get a roll of heat tape (clear brown color) you can place it over sensitive components before using the hot air and it will help protect them from the heat (it's what they do when wave soldering in factories). Comes in may widths.

Nice fault-finding and a satisfying fix, Vince. The gimbal looks like a nice bit of kit, too, and something I think you'll find plenty of uses for (personally I'm hoping to see it being stuck into the Rolls-Royce's engine bay at some point to keep a component in focus 😁).

I'm no techie, in fact I can wire a plug, and that's about it. I don't understand much of what you do, and even less about what you're talking about or say - not because you don't speak sense, but because I'm too dumb to take it in and understand! But despite this, I love watching your videos, and your powers of deduction are sublime. It's a treat to watch. And if I was ever in a plane where the pilot has had a heart attack, and we're hurtling towards a bit of a sticky ending, if you was on board too, I'd happily sit back and have a doze, as I just know you'd figure it all out in time before we scratch the paintwork on the undercarriage. Cheers Vince.

A while back my daughter bought a DJI similar to this, when we got it all it would do is whiz the phone round in circles.
We did everything the instructions stated, but no go.
DJI help line was useless the thing just did not work.
Their was so many CZcams videos asking for help for the same fault.
We just sent it back to Amazon for a refund and bought a cheaper chinese gimbal from Ali Express, this one still works flawlessly.
Even the working OSMO's had so many videos complaining about erratic stabilisation.

Im still half way through, but an issue/suggestion occurs to me. This device is using an 8.9v battery, and a USB c to charge, so likely it is using USB Power Delivery (PD) to get the power source (the usb power bank here) to provide said 9v. This may not be the case here specifically, but it is good to check if your power bank supports this and which voltages it supports so you can better use it to test similar devices.
