The director of the MV is a well-known gay director. He took it the direction it went, which was visually brilliant. The song was about seeing red lights in your life. It's about seeing the warning signs and the potential dangers around the corner.

Bang Chan or Chris is the one with short blond hair, he is the leader of Stray Kids. Hyunjin with the long dark hair is one of two main dancers.
The group decided to split in 3 smaller groups and each group had to make a song. One group made a love song, the other made a summer fun song and Chris and Hyunjin made this song Red Lights. Once finished, the 3 groups got together and listened to each other’s songs and went crazy when they heard what Hyunjin and Chris had made, it was funny to see their reactions listening to it for the first time. They sometimes perform it live in concert with all 8 of them, not just 2.
It’s about their obsession of their art, music. Chris is known to not sleep much when working on songs and Hyunjin can practice for long hours. Their work is like a dangerous obsession but still can’t live without it.

Like said the song is about obsession with work while also referencing an obsessive relationship but they also intentionally went for a sexy song and video. SKZ also have performed it at concerts with all eight members.

It's about their unhealthy obsession with work. Red light references like a red light meaning your recording in the studio or on the air. But they don't care if ppl come up with their own interpretation, lol.
Their debut song is called District 9
But they have a few that are predebut as well... Grrr, Hellevator and Spread My Wings
Red Lights was the first Stray Kids song I saw 😂 so I always love it when ppl react to it. It's one of my favorites of all time. The music video is just gorgeous.
You should listen to Taste next, it's with Lee Know, Hyunjin and Felix. Theres no music video but there is a lyric video. We call it Red Lights pt 2 😂😂😂it has a very sensual vibe to it.

I heard someone remark that the "red lights" reference is to the red recording light in the studio (to concur with @sylvielebrun1733's comment!). So sorry to see that the gentleman in the middle didn't connect to this song so well, happy to see the two of you jam to this bad-a$$ song! The video is definitely amazing, but man that music! Bang Chan & Hyunjin did want to take the video into a more sexy place than they've done with the whole group (and I, with many others, applaud their effort whole heartedly!)...

Here are Hyunjin (main dancer, with black hair) and Bang Chan (leader, main producer, with red hair)

I thank and appreciate your honest reactions. This is one of those song that many folks have a strong reaction to. I found in the Stayville library an interesting take of this song from Stay @jadefrog I would like to share:
    - This is part of a R-rated trio, the "Stray Kids grows up" triumvirate (others: Drive & Taste). Red Lights was originally inspired by Hyunjin and Chan's sense of obsession with work--some have said the red lights refer to the red lights of the recording equipment, and if you look just at the lyrics without the video, you can easily read it as obsession with any kind of addiction, any kind of obsessive relationship, not just a romantic or sexual relationship, & not just to a person, but a relationship to food, to the internet, etc.
    - Stray Kids are really good at having words carry double or triple meanings, and lyrics that can be read two or three or more ways. One of the reasons Stray Kids is so good, and so prolific, is their workaholic tendencies, & that is, as Chan has said several times, not really healthy, it is a sort of addiction. Yet it is also a source of joy for them, and also (through the end result) for us. They don't back off from exploring this, and they connect it to the unease that we all have with the less "healthy" aspects of love, sex, and relationships.
    - These songs are very good at making people very uncomfortable, reactors often get a bit squirmy--IS it talking about what I think it's talking about?! Oh my, can I even say what I'm thinking out loud on this channel? Whew! But I think that these lyrics are being very honest about certain aspects of love and relationships that exist in even the most balanced and healthy people. How do we deal with the fact that some of what we feel is not clean and healthy & "politically correct"?
    - What I love about SKZ is that they acknowledge these uncomfortable feelings that we want to bury, they drag them up out of the depths where we can't hide from them. I think it can be healthy and empowering, but it can also feel creepy and disturbing, because we hide from these feelings, we have been told they are always wrong, instead of learning to discern what level is ok/normal human behavior, and what crosses the line.

Don’t get me wrong I love Pantera/metal but not liking R&B at all is wild😂😂 thank you for the Stray Kids reaction. We love our guys. They are self produced and so talented. They have a whole album and other songs where certain members (8 members) called SKZ Player and SKZ Record. Bang Chan is the blonde and he’s the leader of the group. Hyunjin is one of the main dancers and he helps write music and produce as well. Please check out more Stray Kids

This song is about being obsessed with someone or something...such as work for them...not everyone connects with every song and its ok...thank you for the reaction. 😊

Haha the song is about obsession with their work. Not about sex. They are trying to escape the obsession, feeling chained up and contained by it, but they can't help going back to it. That's why you see them trying to escape the chains in the music video. They talk about staying up all night and that they can't help going back to it.

The song definitely has a lot of fan service and they made it sexy on purpose, BUT when they wrote it it was intended as a discussion about the obsession they have with their work. Chan and Hyunjin both get obsessed with making music, song writing and dancing.

I could recommend too many SKZ songs so I'd suggest...Go to their debut song District 9 (I still love their predubut song Hellavator too and a lot of old 3Racha stuff)...then to their most viewed (I think still is) Gods Menu...then maybe Thunderous, Freeze and Case 143...I'd list all their songs but that's a bit of a variety over the years

It has multiple interpretations. Most obvious, is sexual. The one the two boys will talk about in interviews is the parallels between toxic relationships, and how toxic your relationship with work can be. Both Chan and Hyunjin admit to being workaholics.
Thats why in the beginning, when they are pulling the chains OFF, Chan looks slightly disgusted/frustrated.

Taste is a lyrics video only, but it's more my taste than this one. In Taste, it's Felix, Lee Know, and Hyunjin performing. Your friend may like this one more, but it's still a sexy song.

Haha! As someone who IS Asexual, it is someone who experiances little-to-no sexual attraction. Some Asexuals still participate in sexual activities, some do not. Depends on their comfort level.
