My review will cover the pros and cons of the instrument and whether or not you should be upgrading from the older Fender Standard Stratocasters. This guitar is the new made in Mexico Fender Stratocaster and there's a lot to like about it. Thanks to sky music for letting me review this guitar!

Now I know why I can't play very well. I've been pointing my guitar in the wrong direction. LOL
If you are in the market for a new traditional Strat style guitar, you can’t beat the Players Series from Fender. For the money you will spend, I think you will get a guitar that you can play in any situation. Great funk licks!!!! Cheers!!🎸🎸🎸🤙🏾🤙🏾🤙🏾
578 euros in Greece right now great price..great guitar!
DMSProduktions Wow!
@@DMSProduktions They are around $900-$950. Did you make that up? lol
@@jamalabdul2009 They aren't 2k he has no idea. lol.
intheblues I kind of figured that was a bit steep!!🤪🤪😂😂😂
I think I fell in love with this guitar
I've been watching your videos for many years. While it's never been bad, Your playing has gotten so damn good. I've seen and heard the progress. Another great video. Thanks for doing what you do.
Nice work!
Thanks for covering all the sounds in a good amount of detail.
Thanks pal ! Broke that down nicely. Enjoy hearing you.
I bought a right handed one of these a year ago, same colour and maple neck/fretboard. It rapidly became my favourite guitar, just love it. No problems with the fret ends on mine though.
Man it sounds so good! That guitar is brilliant. I am an avid fan of olympic white for strats, though the polar white finish is growing on me!
Man, I’ve mention that before. But is incredible how you often review things I’m considering to buy. I was thinking abou buying a player next month as my birthday. And here is the confirmation video. It must be a sign from the skies. I definitely need one of those.
did you end up getting it? if so how is it
The player series pickups are alnico while the older MIM were ceramic and I believe the middle tone control also works on the bridge pickup now. 22 frets on the player also.
Yes..
I have this exact one.
The Arctic White lefty Strat, Player Series and love it!
Awesome tones! Polar white color is beautiful!!
I've just ordered mine. I'm also a lefty. Great playing and thanks for the review on this guitar. Made my mind up to get it. Stay safe all the best from the uk.
how much was that tho
Awesome sounds.
Love your playing :):):)
That middle pickup on the dirty channel just killed it has to be the best middle pickup on a strat I have heard in a long time.
I bought a player series strat a year ago, had the choice between that and the older Mexico strat. There are a few differences that you didn’t mention. The player has a two point tremolo where as the older has a six point. The electronics are configured differently so that on the player the first tone pot controls the neck and middle and the second controls the bridge. On the older the first tone controls the neck the second the middle and there was no tone control for the bridge. I think there are different pickups in the player. Also there are some small asthetic changes, spaghetti logo on the player and an f stamp on the neck plate.
Jazz omg superheroes in capes DO exist! It’s always so appreciated when someone steps in right after a presenter and points out everything they missed. My entire opinion was completely altered after reading your comments!
Also - the new player series have 22 frets vs. 21.
Also first time the MIM Strats come with alnico pickups as well.
@@i3oosted it said tim shaw "inspired" design...grain of salt...lol
@John Smith I traded a dude for new loaded player series Limited Ed which after I got it means nothing but paint diff on the guitar hahah. I got the one I wanted though. The pups are the alnico 5 and has the bridge tone control. I'm stoked to put it in either my FSR MIM gilmour vibe strat or the 60s CV ...Both have ceramics. The CV had mighty mites put in before I got it ..Actually nice pups. Cloth wired too. Not sure that makes diff. But I am dying for the crisp alnico tones. Need to see which one to swap. He clipped the wire ground from the volume pot so I need to solder it to my jack and ground it I've never swapped one before. Eager. Hhaha. Need a soldering Iron. From what I hear and have heard via playing and word of tastes these are legit sounding pups.
I just picked up one of these a few months ago. Black with black pick guard and aged white hardware. It's fantastic.
Great video as usually! A "battle" between the news Strat et tele players series could be awesome! 😏
Hey Shane, great vid! Fender guitars, most of the time, are always awesome! Could you do a review on the joyo maximum overdrive? That'd be awesome!
Hey Shane two videos back to back with what i wanted to see ! thanks man! im in between player series and performer sss , dont know yet if i got a good discount on performer i ll go for it.. Thanks again man! on question just from curiosity what pick do you use?
Man, I don't mean to imply that you could never play but since I've been watching you your playing has simply exploded! Wow. Great job - great playing. Also, thanks for reviewing that Strat.
Thanks! I’ve been making an effort to add in new stuff when I can 😀🎸
Nice chops!!!
Love my Player Series guitars!
Hi Shane, great review. Have a Mexican strat for years, love it. Can't go wrong with the quality or craftsmanship. Cheers.
I own 3 Player Plus Top Stratocaster HSS’s and I couldn’t be happier!
They are gorgeous!
The quality of MIM Fenders has greatly improved over the years almost rivaling American made guitars.
I also own 3 other MIM Strats and they are great too!
I am no longer a MIM snob!
I recently purchased a 2022 Player Series HSH Strat, and it's totally AMAZING 😲. Despite having two humbuckers, positions 2-4 are identical to the SSS, and I find myself using the middle pickup a LOT. It's a bit like a Strat on Steroids, and I LOVE it! Great review as always 🙂
Don't forget that you can use the bottom tone control to cut back on that bridge pickup. Fender did good with that on the Player Series. I use my bridge pickup a lot more now that I can tone it down.
I got the buttercream strat .Plays great very similar to my older american standard . My fret edges were pretty good actually . This was the best. 799.00 I ever spent on a guitar . I own a bunch of u.s. made fenders and this is dangerously close to the american production made fenders . Change the tuners and string tree and trem block and this can hang with any strat I have played. Overall this is a excellent value .this is a ridiculously good guitar for the money. Shane great video love your channel man keep up the good work blues power forever.........
Sweeeeet tone man and great Chops♥️🙈🙏💯💜💪
I actually had the same experience with a Player Series in the States. I played both a Tele and a Strat and I wasn't as impressed with the neck and fret work as with the old MIM versions. However, the 22 Frets and 2 point Tremolo of the new Players Series actually offset that for me a good deal. I'd essentially just buy it and have the frets done. Unfortunately, I've begun to fall in love with the G&L MFD pickups. So I'll likely get one of those. LOL
Nice Shane! Hey, have you ever played a Fender Nashville Tele or G&L ASAT Classic S Alnico? Love the T-types with 3 scs and a 5-way switch!
I grabbed one a couple months ago in the Buttercream. It's a fantastic guitar.
I got my hands on a player series j-bass last weekend (right handed of course). I like em, low enough action, big sound, above average feeling neck.
Just got a Player Strat in Lake Placid Blue (not sure if it was a special run of that color) and got it set up and put a Hot Rails in the bridge. I've tried to like single coil bridge pickups but I've been a rocker for too long :) Son of a gun, this may turn into my number 1 guitar. Love how it can get everything from Hendrix to SRV to Clapton to Judas Priest & Iron Maiden. So versatile. Also plays really smooth.
Hi Shane , I just ordered one of these beauties in white too, just love the look. Can't to play it when ever it comes in.
Nice tone 👍😎
I reckon the Mexican Player represents a real step up in quality compared to earlier Mexican Strats. The machining of the body and neck is very precise. I don't know exactly how Fender did this but the body routes are cut after the body is painted and buffed (no more snowdrifts of buffing compound in the routes just waiting to infiltrate and wear out your pots). All the routes are very smooth with no wood tear out, and all the top edges have a bevel. This is a particular advantage for the jack plate as the bevel clears the rounded edges of the pressing allowing the plate to fit really flat on the body. The necks are 22 fret, not 21 like the older Mex guitars. The Modern C profile goes from a C to an asymmetric profile by the 12th fret with a flatter curve on the treble side. The maple necks have a gloss finish on the front and matte on the back. This may be the cause of the fret end roughness because Fender may have some difficulty managing the transition between the gloss and the matte along the edge of the fret board. Even the electronics is up to U.S.A. standards - CTS pots, high quality switch and a recurved jack socket. The 2 point vibrato bridge even has a full size zinc alloy inertia block, instead of the low cost skinny blocks the Mexican made guitars used to have. However - in the UK Fender's after sales service stinks.
Hello Shane, you did not mention it or show in the video, but the second tone control controls the bridge pick up to dial down some of that brightness.
I also have the player stratocaster in left handed version. Definitely an awesome guitar and totally worth the money. Well finished, good sounding pickups, looks like high-end guitar and plays like one, 22 frets, spaghetti logo, tone pot for the bridge pickup,, stays in tune... what else do you need ?
For less than 400 dollars you can give it a relative value of more than 1,500 dollars
I would advise anyone buying the newer post 2017 mex strats to definitely play them in store before purchase. Check fret ends and neck pocket gaps and angle. Two of the three I played off shelf had issues. One with neck pocket miss aligned with a big gap, other sharp fret ends and crack where strap lock connects. Obviously had been dropped and packed anyway as I opened the box in store and it was well packed. Only improvement I can see with these over the old models is Alnico pickups. Give me a well made quality guitar any day, I can change pickups easy enough.
Geez those are some bright-sounding pickups. Sounds very different than my old MIM Strat Standard.
Fender came out with new colors including pink. ..very pretty!
Nice review! Do you know if they make those in a right handed version?
Just bought mine from GC. Agreed the frets ends needed some work, but I think they missed with the pickups on mine because they didn't sound near as good as yours. Upon replacing them with a set of SD SSL-1/SSL-5, I noticed that all the internals are CTS and SwitchCraft connected with vintage pushback wire. Not something I expected from a Mexicaster but welcomed nonetheless. Fender really hit a home run with this guitar, the bones and guts are top notch. BTW, mine's white also! Cheers!
i got the buttercream HSH player strat. i love it so much. played les paul for years and i'm a fender convert now
@James Brown I've been recovering from a broken pinky! Thank God it wasn't my fret hand but had to have surgery and was hard to play for a while. Hope you healed up nicely!
Nice Strat! \m/
I have a 2014 Modern Player HSS (MIC)...fretwork was perfect, but I changed the push-pull to a push-push, made a world of difference.
Just bought the Green pearl version and usually on mex made strats ive owned i change out the pickups and hardware but on this players edition i dont have to change a thing, everything is perfect including the fret edges Great buy go get one
Nice job as always shane. Again my only gripe on these is the 2 point trems, beyond that I found the pickups muddy when you put gain to them. The classic vibe's pickups I felt sounded better then these in the players.
I would suggest lowering them a tad. 3mm gap low E and 2.5mm gap high E did the trick with my son's red player series Strat (lefthanded).
I got a player series strat and also found the fret ends to be sharp. Nothing some masking tape, a sanding pad, and 30 minutes couldn't fix, but still mildly annoying. After fixing that, the guitar plays really well and the finish is flawless.
Do you sell your DSL40CR, Blues Deluxe and Bassbreaker profiles? I’m thinking about buying the Kemper Stage
Just ordered the sunburst. Great guitar, can't wait to hear those warm Fender tones!!
Just got mine it puts a lot of 1000-1500 dollar guitars to shame. Got mine for 588 :)
Chris what's it like?
@@rmorton8281 Great guitar, you can't go wrong with purchasing one!
@@chriscaskenette I'm gonna buy the same as you. Can you recommend a good amp? I'd really like the HSS strat but they don't do it in left hand
@@rmorton8281 I have a Katana MK2 100 watt, its a great all purpose amp, under 400 US
Ordered mine yesterday in 3 tone sunburst
Nice review. Nice.
Thank you! Cheers!
Great playing man! Love the color of this one (because it looks just like my 2016 MIM Strat LOL!) I may be in a minority, but I actually like the hotter, thicker sounding ceramic pickups on mine vs. the Alnicos on the Player series which sound more vintage. But gosh, for the price and quality of these new Player Strats, I’m not sure why anyone would buy a MIA version? 🤙🏻🎸😎
I bought a used 2018 player Stratocaster on reverb. The frets are good on the sides. No complaints. Maybe the previous owner worked on them. The strings are set up super low. With no fret buzz anywhere. Fret work done? I haven’t played another one so I don’t have any reference. It plays and sounds like butter. I love it. Yours sounded fantastic as well.
Mine came perfect out of the box, no sharp frets! It plays great! Also it's always in tune! These guitars are a great value
great video what was that song you previewed at the beginning
Played one yesterday. It was super nice compared to the older mex standard to me.
I got the lefty sunburst great guitar
I went looking for a Strat recently, convinced id get a USA of some kind. Ended up buying a Player series. Dud a setup, graphtech nut and locking tuners and its stunning.
The 2 point trem and Alnico pickups make it even harder to rationalize stepping up to a full USA Strat. I have a couple of MIM Strats and I prefer the creamier tones of the ceramic pickups. You need to play them back to back and decide which you like more.
Cool, love the MIMs, my ‘013 Standard is the best guitar ever(to me, anyway😉). These new ones seem nice, I wish they would have kept the ‘68 style logo tho, I’m not too keen on the spaghetti one.
Hello,
Congratulations on the beautiful tutorials on guitars and amps.
I wanted to ask you for advice:
I am fond of the Stratocaster sounds of Clapton, Knoffler and Gilmour.
I wanted to buy a Stratocaster with a price between 400 and 1100 euros. (CLASSIC VIBE 50/60 - PLAYER 50/60 - PLAYER 50/60 MOD - VINTERA 50/60 - VINTERA 50/60 MOD. - VINTERA 50/60 ROD WORN - AMERICAN PERFORMER).
Which of these models are closest to the timbres of Clapton, Knoffler and Gilmour.
I also like the idea of the humbuker in the bridge, since I get the clean sounds with the center and the neck.
I always follow you.
Best regards and happy holidays.
Please do the player series telecaster next!!
Damn that thing sounds genuinely damn good.
great playing, but watching you play it left handed tripped me out! haha
Great video, thanks a lot! Every time I watch a lefthanded player I get confused. Usually guitar videos are nice for me, because they are like a mirror :D (I am lefthanded) Thanks a lot!!
your right about the frets cuz I own a player and they do stick up
I have this in Tidepool. It is beautiful.
With what microphone do you record your guitar?
Just curious that you make no mention about the tremolo. The Mexican you compared too has a 6 point, however this one has a 2 point. Your demo doesn't even use the tremolo at all. Are you using it fixed rather than floating? Or is it because tuning can never be any good using the Fender tremolo system?
Got a HSS Player Strat and ha to finish off the fret ends, too sharp. Replaced the tuners with locking and the bridge with a Wilkinson. Also replaced the springs with Raw Vintage ones. Now it floats and stays in tune. Hard keeping it in tune otherwise. 3/64 is the action I like and it would not do it without buzzing. Flattened the neck, basically no neck relief and bingo! I got low action with no buzzing.
Also replaced the neck and middle pickups with Rose pickups. Stock pickups are nice but these are bit more vintage sounding.
Cool guitar
I fell in love with a buttercream players series strat at my local GC. It has been the only time I played something and had been, ‘I have to buy this.’ Put a gold anodized pickguard on it and did a series/parallel switch mod (replacing the rear tone knob) and it’s my favorite guitar I own. Luckily no sharp fret ends :p
Buy it!
Rob Nicoll oh I did back in April. That pickguard and that mod have already been done as well. No looking back!!
I bought the HSS model, fantastic guitar
I’ve been having trouble finding a lefty HSS model. Where did you get it?
Priyantha Fernando at my local guitar store called Leitz Music.
Priyantha Fernando ive been having trouble finding any lefty player guitar with a humbucker in it online, been thinking to just get a standard and mod it
Bought HSS (standard MiM), and put some DiMarzio. Beast of a guitar!!! (the one in my avatar). But single's in Player are also perfect.
@@MrMixolydian7 I have the same problem
Is your older one olympic white or its just aged polar white finish?
Great video thank you. I am going to get one.......Sal : )
it sounds INSANE
Fender MIM guitars are great. This one was no exception!
I totally agree man and I love your channel man totally love that butterscotch tele you reviewd
Can you make a review of the Rowin heavy metal pedal Pleaseeeee
Are you playing straight into the AMP without any Pedals?
This is my first Strat, same color! Just picked it up last month. Something is off though, my playing is not as good haha
Please make a comparison between this and the American Professional.
I recently sold my old Mexican Strat. Never really gelled with it. Maybe it was the pickups? Only the bridge one sounded any good to me. But these Player series Strats look & sound the bomb. Maybe the perfect replacement, as I'm now missing a Strat in the lineup.
Which overdrive pedal are you using ?
It is such a good guitar. Grab the one, plug it in, just shut up and play, no matter what...
how is neck shape ..it is similar to deluxe Strat plus
?
You can tell by the look on your face that those pickups sound great.
The white looks tight
I wonder if the Pau Ferro fretboards tend to shrink more than rosewood ? I keep seeing people commenting on fret sprout or sharp frets ? Anyways nice demo as always mate ! :-)
I don't think most "civilians" know much of anything about Pau Ferro. I surprised a botanist I know by bringing up that wood in conversation.
@@proteus2103 I have been familiar with it since SRV became famous because his #1 has it.
I have a lefty Player Stratocaster and a lefty Player Tele, both in Sunburst. No sharp fret ends (tip, check a Player guitar in a shop, if the labels have “Alfredo” mentioned, chances are it is a good one). I think the pick ups on the Player series sound better than earlier Mexican guitars, but this is subjective.
I love the artic white/ tan it use to be. Now it's so white. I'm tossed up on which color to buy. White or red starburst. I dont like the primer silver color. Just sucks they dont offer tan anymore.
Same as mine! Great guitars. Mines a lefty also!
I owned an original MIM lefty Stratocaster! Great-sounding guitar, especially for the money! I'm sure the Player Series Stratocaster has only improved.
Just ordered a white player series strat left handed today lol
@@benjaminbreslin8415 I had the original lefty Standard Stratocaster, & you could definitely gig w/em! I did! And It's my understanding they've improved em! Better than an Epiphone Les Paul, 100%
Essa guitarra branca é meu sonho de consumo. Só deus sabe
What's the first song that you played ?
The second tone pot controls the bridge pickup
How’s the action on these straight outta the box?
Torn between this and a player telecaster. Lefty aswell and like playing Hendrix, dire straits, rage against the machine so I’m kinda thinking both would probably be good choices?
I have a player series tele and it kicks ass, but I’m still thinking ab getting the player strat
I got a scratch and dent Players Strat in Buttercream for under $200. Someone dropped it, so the bottom of the body had a dent in it. That’s it for $500 off!
That being said, I own two American made PRS’ s, and I play the Players Strat 75% of the time. Luckily, no sharp edges on my frets. Nothing like the 2014 Les Paul I had that gave me three stitches, IN THE MIDDLE OF A SET, because of sharp fret edges. That thing was hot garbage, and why I now own two American PRS’s. 🤷♂️
I just got a buttercream strat for $425 with just a small scratch and a small hole in the headstock
I like this player series, but the Big problem is the poor frets work.
