Neo Palmtree Zone is so open, I'm studying it's level design for inspiration.
Id argue against doing that. I've been through Neo Palmtree Zone 9 different times, and only twice have I actually been able to reach the goal. Theres a difference between openness and aimlessness, and I feel like Neo Palmtree zone is a lot more quantity than quality, feeling extremely aimless and hard to navigate, there's no sense of direction, and most of everything looks the same, making it feel like you're constantly running in circles. If you want to explore great open world level design, Mario Sunshine is a great source of inspiration, Odyssey as well, and for as messy as Sonic Utopia is, it has a great sense of direction and flow for an open world sandbox demo
@@iampinball3669 From the video alone i could tell the goal wasn't very intuitive, but maybe i think it can be easily fixed. The level doesn't look aimless, just a bit confusing, but again, i didn't play it.

@@Chaos.A Sonic CDs issue was exploration to find the CAPSULES, and other routes, otherwise you could easily bumrush levels.
Neo Palmtrees issue is that you're only ever gonna be good at finding other routes, never the actual end

The design is actually called Junio Sonic? Because while toei technically delivered the final product, the design and most of the animation was outsourced to Junio

The Sprites on the CD and Mania levels are amazing! They moved so smoothly I had to remind myself that they weren't actually full 3D models.

The sonic 3d blast sonic sprites fit so well with the 3d gameplay of this game, and I never thought about that until now. Thanks for making this video.
Can’t say I agree on this one- I genuinely hate the 3D blast sprites, sonic seems so lifeless, like no idle animations, etc, they removed sonic style completely to compensate for the the hardware limitations
Also it kinda looks like sonic is waddling and I don’t like it

@@turnipaitor I can agree on that, his walking animation is what I mostly hate. But I mean who ever made that mod had a good idea. I wish the creator of the 3d blast mod makes the sprite animations better.
Still, its a pretty cool mod and a cool idea.

Sonic roboblast 2 mods are the best ways to breath new life into original games.
Man I love the level design in these, I feel like I would be hours in the same level just to find new paths and new ways to go faster.
There should be a mania level pack with all the sonic mania levels

Well, the engine used is worked of the doom engine, which could cause some copyright issues, but guess that could be a positive factor as I genuinely feel this game needs an engine switch, even if it kept the doom like gameplay physics, but sonic just feels rather slippy

Seeing Knuckles with all his buddies doing unique things brings a smile to my face.
I went from never knowing about this game to this easily being my favorite 3D Sonic title. This really goes beyond the word impressive to me, this is legit masterful craftsmanship.
Sega is absolutely crazy to not simply buy this and make it official.
They'd be crazy to do so. For a fan project, SRB2 is great, but as a full on professional project, its extremely unpolished.
The level design is messy, sometimes confusing. The acceleration and control can get super disorienting, there's a very lacking feeling of weight. It keeps in a lot of its worst ideas, outdated concepts from its previous builds, on tradition alone.
@@iampinball3669 Thats all fair, but they would also be able to fine tune and fix most of those things if they were to do so. In an idealistic world anyway, lol.
A game doesn't always have to be perfect to be enjoyed. Fun is fun, even when not entirely polished.

ive been playing robo blast since 5th grade ive always thought that this game was so cool
Gameplay good for sonic mania but the camera shift it's what it lacks cause of going up a hole or going down
this is literally the only good 3d hydrocity made by fans.
I bet that if Chaotix was more like Encore Mode and prefferably didn't have the rubberband mechanic (which I don't hate, but agree it's kinda shit) just like it is on this mod, it would be more of a hidden gem than it already is.

I wish someone would make a game about Sonic: Worlds Collide, with a dual story mode where you could either play it Sonic style or Mega Man style.
Sonic's story would be in third person, as always, and would play like SRB2 usually does: Reach the end goal by any means necessary. Rings gathered from levels and earned from sub missions (Defeat this many enemies, don't hurt a single enemy, etc.), as well as Miles earned from from running can be used to upgrade sonics moves and abilities.
Mega Man's story will consist of him going through locations (Megaman Legends 2 style) in first person mode (Megaman Deathmatch style), fighting enemies room to room and gathering keys for doors in order to reach the boss behind the big lock. Zenny can be used to buy items and Bolts can be used to enhance upgrades (You have to find them during levels or buy them from Dr. Light first.).
SRB2 + 1st Person MML? I haven't heard about such an oddly specific combination in a while tbh
@@TheKorenji Well, Worlds Collide is a crossover of Sonic and Mega Man's universe where Eggman and 'Dawkta Waiwee' combined their knowledge and resources to force Sonic's friends to become 'Badnik Masters' (it's an actual comic). I figured if a game was to be made of it, it should have the best gameplay that both universes can offer.
I don't know if you were there for it (or found a good emulator to play it), but MML2 was the best years of Mega Man in my life! (That, and MM8.)

Honestly I think sonic cd would benefit from being an adventure of a robo blast style game since you're not restricted to the 2d mish mash of level design the original game was cursed with. It also make the peel out a better move.

Lol it’s because they weren’t sure if it would sell well, and didn’t want to use Sonic and Tails for that reason.
Am I the only one who thought this was on the Build Engine? I wasn't too far off as it's a modified version of the Doom Engine, but this feels way more in-line with something like Duke Nukem 3D than Doom with its graphical power.
