Sergio's waist to shoulder ratio is still unmatched to this day, add to that his tree trunk arms and you get a physique that was literally out of this world
He was truly incredible and gave Arnold a run for his money
The sheer mass/muscle bellies and lines with symmetry and height was a sight to be seen. Sergio's physique was insane.

the only man that can say he has the greatest shoulder to waist ratio in bodybuilding history. the tiny waist combined with his freakish mass, cements him as the greatest there ever was simply because noone can replicate what he had. A guy in the gym told me a story about Sergio coming to the gym in the 70's in Miami. He said he walked thru a set of double doors because he was so wide. He was wearing a big gold chain with a huge gold medallion hanging from it. He said it looked mythical the way he walked into the gym, with everyone in the gym just stopping and turned, and looked at him in amazement. Wish I could have seen that.

Underrated fact- He has one of the best bicep-forearm ratio ever.
That is underrated considering he is widely known to have the greatest waist to shoulder ratio in history. The man breaks records purely off his symmetry, let alone his vascularity, and actual muscle definition
Probably the most genetically gifted bodybuilder of all time. Definitely the best structure. Interesting to note that his rep ranges. Seems like he used full and partial ranges.

I truly don't know of any other bodybuilder to inspire so much strength. He looked like he would tore you apart if he laid his hands on you in anger
In an old Muscle Mag I have (about 30 years old) - it says in a training article about Sergio Oliva that he warmed up on the bench press with a 45 LB plate each side for 100 x reps. Then the author said - " that's not a mis-print". That's pretty impressive even by today's standards. He really was the Myth.
I heard he pumped up before a contest with 350# on the bench ... former bodybuilder had told me this

Three people have beaten Arnold in a bodybuilding contest. Sergio, Frank Zane, and Chet Yorton. After Arnold won his first Mr. Olympia at age 23 (still the youngestMr. O ever) he was unbeaten until retirement.
I like Sergio at his best just as much as I like Arnold if not a little more. Respect to both men.

Arnold beat Sergio in posing. Sergio hit too many of the same poses whereas Arnold had a plethora of different poses. It all came down to showmanship.

I knew Joe & Sergio, Joe was never a racist! Joe put Leroy Colbert on magazine covers in the 50’s and they were very close friends till Joe’s passing. Leroy was one of handful of people who spoke at Joe’s celebration of life. Joe was never a racist!
