    You're doing a great job FRM! I watch your channel, Eric the Car Guy, Scanner Danner, etc so I can get some tips and gain any knowledge I can get from y'all that I have forgotten more than I'll ever know. I'm more of a DIYer and work in Law Enforcement. I haven't wrenched on cars for a job since the early 90s, but I like cars and have been a Petrolhead since I was a small boy. I'm wanting to do repair work on the side, plus have something to do when I retire (I'm almost 50). I'm doing an automotive course to refresh, learn, and add other skills I know I don't have. Keep doing what you're doing.

    I hear you man, people don't understand the amount of time that really goes into this job. I have had friends and family suggest to me to do videos, or even case studies for that matter. Forget that jazz, when the day is done I don't even want to look at a car. The worst is when people find out you are a technician. I tell them to make an appointment sounds broke. Again I enjoy your channel for what it is, keep up the good work man.

    FRM, All your advice/wisdom is valuable whether your a DIY'er or Pro , the viewer just needs to LISTEN. With all the car and manufacture (make and model) specific videos available on-line, those comments from viewers who want vids will next be asking you to come over and help and or fix their vehicle for them. All they need to do is join the dozens of forums out there and brush up on that up coming job...... ie be prepared!
    By the way, your personal protection/safety advice is spot on : don't concern yourself with its popularity as the smart tech's will listen and Learn and the foolish ones won't be around very long ("they are all rapped up around the impact").
    NOTE to tech's who don't take care of themselves , your not going to touch (warranty or no warranty) my car if you can't even care for yourself!!!
    Thank you FRM.

    Keep on doing what you are doing. You fill a niche that is under served. Sure, it would be nice to get all the subscribers and everything that comes with it but I think you will keep growing regardless. I left the industry 19 years ago for the software industry and I still enjoy the heck out of your videos.

      @flatratemaster  Před 7 lety

      Thank you! It is a very under served niche. Doing repair videos would not guaranty me subscribers, but would be more "main stream" but the channel growth is very good for a niche market and I am blown away by how fast the channel has grown, I should hit 2k this month and that is awesome! as I have only been putting out videos for 5 months and really 4 for real!

    Gotta take the high road and forgive some people's ignorance. ETCG & SMA have their own shop, so they have the freedom to allocate time for video. Whereas FRM is an employee who has a boss to answer to & make money for. There is only 1 place to go when you are not making money or making yourself useful to an employer.
    I'm an entry level tech (which I guess is called general service tech below the 49th parallel) and I enjoy your videos immensely. Love your tool reviews especially when it comes from a tech in the field. More importantly subjects like different kinds of repair shop, trade schools, and many other topic of the trade that weren't in textbook or briefly mentioned makes your channel stands out to me.

Make short fast 2-5 minute videos every so often when you get a car in that you know a trick to do a job faster and point out how you do it. Or maybe when something real crazy comes in you could show... Just little tidbits of knowledge whenever you think it would help someone. That would be a good idea I think. And would only take a couple minutes here and there.

    Hey Flat Rate Master,.... I dig your shows and listen vary much to your P.O.V., and respect that ... but Maybe you know the answer to your own statement, but any feed back from your viewers is a good thing. So here is my thoughts; " Right on YOU DO YOU IN WHAT YOU WANT, AND WHO CARES WHAT OTHER PEOPLE THINK. I KNOW YOU ARE HELPING ME". Also!!!
    P.S. ... remind the little guy he doesn't always have to have the whole line of snap on shit or I missed that video... it's a little intimidating to me not wanting to throw away hundreds of dollars on tools in the END that your family can't get back if you get sick or pass on due to your personal investment.....sorry that's my opinion and not yours . "RESPECT"!!

      +Mark Quigley to teach young Auto techs life skills, not to teach DYERS to fix their cars

    you must not be on flat rate even though you call yourself that, being shop foreman!

      +kkovler1 I am still on flat rate, I do have a productivity bonus based on overall shop hours, but most of my pay is from Flat Rate on the hours I turn

    You may just need to not be so damn full of yourself. Plenty of channels that don't to repair videos that eclipsed your channel long ago. Start caring and maybe you can help more people. Don't bother replying to this. I'll never see it.

      My channel has only been around for 5 months and about to hit 2000 subscribers, that is very good growth for a very niche channel! I never intended it for the general public, I do what I do to help auto techs not DIYers
