Robert Shaw, Peter Boyle, James Earl Jones, Beau Bridges,,,,,a big time line up.
This is my all time favorite Pirate Movie, very hard to find.
Robert Shaw passed away too young. He could have made another dozen of excellent films for cinema goers. RIP
What a great adventure ! Robert Shaw has always been one of my favourite actors. Thank you , Retrospective , for posting this grand tale !!
It’s funny. I was 10 years old when this came out and I’m 56 now and I can still remember sitting in the theatre watching it and loving the adventure!
Same here,,,,, I was 9 and I thought the guy with all the knives was the coolest thing ever.
I don't remember the film when I was ten in 1976, but watching it now. Got to be good, it stars Earl-Jones in it.
@@veldawells2839 definitely remember the summers back then… 76’ was a great year…
@@leroythemaster4268 Jeffrey Holder. No idea why he didn't get more juicy, prominent roles like this. (And unlike James Earl Jones, he was an actual West Indian; that accent is real.)
@RobMacKendrick he played Baron Samedi in James Bonds' Live and Let Die. Remember?
That movie was on heavy rotation on German TV in the 80s that's where I saw it first and i still have a soft spot for it...
Saw this at the theater when it came out, I was 30. Still a good flick after 40+ years!
Same here. I was about 19 and first saw it on board a ship on the Caribbean, of all places.
Fun movie, I saw it when I was in service mid seventy and watching it for second time tonight. I am 73 years old. Time flies
An all-star cast.
This movie is awesome beyond words. I loved every minute of it when I saw it in the theater! 10/10 easy from me.
Good pirate film 🎥 Robert Shaw fine actor R..I..P
He was also the boat captain in JAWS.....
Was also good in the Deep
Also he was in the Sting with Paul Newman and Robert Redford.
He was in TV show the Buccaneers
He was also an award winning novelist and successful playwright and screenwriter. He died at age 51.
I had no idea, James Earl Jones was in Jaws. 😂
It's a fun pirate movie, definitely 70's style but still worth watching imo. Great cast and costumes. Thank you for sharing! 🚢 ⚓
I've seen it several times, it's a fun, lightweight, popcorn movie. I love it.
Big pirate fan here, I think "The Black Swan" is about my favorite.
1:34:28; Genvieve Bujold and that shirt kept me awake nights when I was a young man....
WATCHED IT AGAIN!
WONDERFUL!
ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIC!
ONE OF MY FAVORITE MOVIES!
Talk about a dream team of actors
OMG! I have only read the opening credits and I am so excited to watch this movie! James Earl Jones, Geneviee Bujold, Beau Bridges? Are you kidding me? LET"S GO! And let's not forget Robert Shaw!
Plus the guy from the cola nut commercials
@@mpetersen6nobody knows who you mean.

I guess you need to be an old guy.
Ah, the good ole days! Thank you for this!
I was 10 years old when I saw this movie. My brother, my mother and I went. I fell in love with Robert Shaw. I was teased and told I fell in love with an old man but I didn't care! We all moved the movie and I saw Robert Shaw again in Jaws. I will always have a soft spot for the actor. Thanks for posting the movie, I enjoyed watching it again❤❤❤
Why do people berate a fun movie for being what it is....FUN!!!!! No worries, just enjoy the flic without being judgmental. A fun movie to watch and I had a great time watching it. Thanks for posting it!!!!!!!!
It wasn't fun! It was more likly written by Universal Hollywood Pirates or drugged up none caring thrives. It was gross rather than fun. Gross as full of criminal inaccuracys.
this was one of my favourite movies as a kid, and I've been trying to find it on dvd for years! So happy to find out it's on here! Thank you so much....
There's a pile of well known people in this one. 👍🏻😊
"Pile" may be exactly the way to describe it.
@@rocketscientisttoo 😆
This is a really fun movie, with great actors!
Why wasn't this movie at least a 3 hour long epic? They had plenty of material written, all of the scenes were great, and we should have seen more of all the actors and actresses.
One of my FAVES! Thank you for posting!
Robert Shaw a top actor 💯 did you know that Sean Connery said of him that of all the bond villains he was the most believable..
This man was a real man that didn't suffer fools 💪🇬🇧💯 sadly missed..RIP YOU'LL NOT BE FORGOT 🙏💯
The best pirate movie ever! How young they all were...Tanks for posting so I do not need to buy it again. Unluckily I cannot find my DVD. 🏴☠
A rare film, back in the days of VHS video. Robert Shaw makes this film worth watching! Thanks for uploading!!
Early in the careers of many greats. Cool
Wow, what a sword fight and what an ending!
OMG found this. Love it! Thanks much!
Grew up watching this in the 80s. One of my favourites. Jane Durant sword fighting was " girl power" long before the Spice Girls came along.
Love the intro music, fun film thanks 😊
"Pederast" is not a word I expected to hear in this movie.
Great flick. A lot of fun.
That wagon off the cliff was one of the crazier stunts I’ve seen. That stunt actor in red dove in head first!
33:25: It's great to see James Earl Jones, and Geoffrey Holder in the same film.
Beau Bridges best role😊
Robert Shaw played a splendid Henry VIII in “A Man For All Seasons”. Wonderful film.
Seen that one a few times and have to agree although was surprised expecting him to be miscast. Robert Shaw played across an impressive range of roles. I doubt he had as good a time in any of his other films as he did in this one though. Not a bad effort at an Irish accent although he slips back into his own voice in one or two early scenes.
The Scarlet Buccaneer!!
Lynch's answer - "I'm not a gentleman, I'm an Irishman" - reminds me of something that happened in Sicily during WWII. The Germans had cornered an Alberta unit and pinned them down. They sent an officer to a nearby rise under a white flag, to say, "You English gentleman must surrender! You will only be killed!" One of the Alberta boys shouted back, "We ain't English! We ain't gentlemen! And we sure as HELL ain't surrenderin'!" True story.
Great seeing some of my favorite actors in their younger days. Peter Boyle as the bad guy makes the movie and Robert Shaw as a pirate captain can't be beat. That's my first impression, now I'm watching the rest on a big screen TV to see what young James Earl Jones is up to.
So many stars in their early days. Was a pleasure to warch.
A fine fun film thank you. for me though the real star is the Golden Hinde, built at Appledore in Devin, 1974/5.
Today she is open to the public always short of funds so please aid her any way you can.
Golden Hinde is based in London quite near where the original Golden Hind was placed by order of Queen Elizabeth I after the ship's historic and very successful circumnavigation of the world between 1577 and 1580.
She made the second and more successful circumnavigation returning to England with enough loot to run the country for a year and a half.
Golden Hinde was originally known as Pelican and built to the special order of Golden Hind Francis Drake.
This is a real curiosity but in spite of its flaws crucially remains entertaining throughout with an excellent finale. I really wish I had seen it as a child.
Thank you for the great movie.
Good cast.
❤
Great old movie, no CGI, no BS, all good fun. No political correctness either. Love it. Thanks for posting.
Hear you and so true no hollyweird
Is there anything that doesn’t offend you? Fragile little snowflake.
The stunt with the coach going over the cliff was incredible. As you say, these days it would be cgi.
Are you kidding? It says right of the bat it's about he evil White 'colonizers'.
You are so indoctrinated you don't even notice the propaganda..
Peter Boyle, after playing Frankenstein's monster in 1974, plays Lord Durant!!!!
Robert Shaw kinda reprises his salty character of Quint in Jaws. Love it! Great classic actor. I liked the satire vibe sort of like Pirates of the Caribbean. Fun movie 👍
Lest you not forget his role in THE DEEP.
@@williamneitzel2249 Or The Battle of The Bulge
@@carlreed6186 Or "Battle of Britain" , too. "Taka Taka Taka Taka Taka ....."😮🤣🤣😂
Spectacular movie. Definitely worth watching again.
I had that thought also
This is a good one ship pirate movie. My wife likes it. I like Robert Shaw. Of course we all know how his”Custer of The West” ends !
In 1995 December 25, my wife and I in San Antonio seen “Cut Throat Island “, that too was a fun pirate movie.
I haven't seen any sharks yet, just a rooster.
@@guymorris6596 that's the Blarney Cock
@@guymorris6596 You may need to move a little closer to the water.
A really great movie with a few famous faces in this epic swashbuckling movie and an added bonus not a single advert!!
I was 12 when this came out I remember watching in the cinema. I love Robert Shaw and James Earl Jones. Fantastic music really enjoyed this again.
Power corrupts. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
Throughout history the lord Durants perish by their own avarice.
True indeed and happening in the world as we speak
I remember this movie as a kid. I loved it!!!
good to see Avery Schreiber in this, as he was one of my favorites in the 70s.
A gem of a movie!
Aaaaahhh, Genevieve. Still one of the sexiest women ever in movies. 😍😍😍
She was in Coma.
That's some fine swashbuckling there, Arrrrrr!
What a fun movie. Silly pirate's. 😊
The best pirate movie an the most underrated robert shaw was great peter boyle was also good james earl jones also great everything was great and final duel is in the league of all the great duels in Hollywood movie history
Blue sky like magical magnificent amazing world
james earl jones ,and who would of known what a fine actor he would become and play lots of major roles in some big movies. his voice is so noticeable along with morgan freeman and who would have thought seeing a young fit earl jones. one of my favorite actors .
🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿 and 4 broken legs on that tent jump. The velocity on both of them ripping through that fabric 🚑🏥
Loved this Movie! I remember all of these actors from other movies and TV shows from the 60’s -early 80’s. Subscribed now. ❤
I watched this 200 times as a kid, totally not a kid movie but I just love the swordfighting
Very good movie, thanks. I havent seen this one before
Classic pirate movie
Next to pirates of the Caribbean this my second favorite pirate film
I saw this movie when my mother was the second manager of the drive-in we saw it .. the we , my brothers likely with me in 78 or 79 I think. I was in 8th or 9th grade then . Ask me and I say a fantastic movie @!
I watched this movie as a kid when I was on vacation in Winnipeg it was a great movie.
Who goes on vacation to Winnipeg? And who goes on vacation to watch a movie?
@@Barry_the_dog it doesn't matter what your opinion is,I'm just saying I was in Winnipeg on vacation and I was visiting relatives and they treated us to a movie where I watched Swashbuckler for the first time and was a good movie.
@@philipbahia2707 I never gave you my opinion there smart one.
Just what the title says, and right nicely done, too. I think that Robert Shaw was long in the pirate business before this, with the TV series THE BUCCANEERS. He was also twice assassinated by Sean Connery in mortal combat, in FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE and ROBIN AND MARIAN. James Earl Jones, Peter Boyle, Beau Bridges, Geneviev Bujold and Angelica Huston went on to other things.
Later he became a pirate aboard a fishing boat in pursuit of a shark.
I read in a movie magazine, that Robert Shaw was the first Britain the be paid a million dollars for a movie. I had the DVD , a paper back movie tie-in book and a small movie poster of this movie. It is a very good pirate movie. Errol Flynn was Custer and in very good pirate movies.
Saw this in highschool. a major flick too. love these swashbuckler movies....
Robert shaw one of the United Kingdom’s finest actors.
Very smart and upright actor with a great natural talent and very distinguished voice, also played general Custer in Custer of the west.
Died Autumn '78.
I graduated high school that year. The Golden Hinde replica, used in the movie, came to Sf bay. It was a lot smaller than you'd expect. Loved the movie then and now.
You can see how small it is in the movie.
With all those sails and its relatively small size I'll bet she's pretty fast.
Doesn't take a big crew to sail her either.
Kind of ideal for piracy.
Loved it! Tks for uploading it!
Good spirited movie, a decent show and great cast of characters.
'Good spirited'? Pirates, Bucaneers, Cut throats, theives, muteneers and robbers. Which were the 'good spirited'?
@@MikeGreenwood51 ~ The film producer? Good point Michael!
This even has Tom Clancy (of the Irish music group, the Clancy Brothers) and Avery Schreiber (of the comedy duo, Burns and Schreiber)!
And Clancy not only played Moonbeam, but was also the film's musical consultant.
Not to be confused with Tom Clancy, the author who passed away in 2013.
one of the Greatest Pirate movies Ever - its easy to get off of a ship with no clothes on but not so easy to get back on -
---Cheers
Dang, you forgot to mention Angelica Houston was in this. She's one of my favorites.
I havent seen this in years. A great old flick thanks for the upload!
I paraphrase. "This very easy to get off a ship without any clothes. Getting back aboard is a different story."
Oh goody. I remember seeing this a zillion years ago. I was much impressed by some of the actors, but too young to know they were A-list caliber.
oH GOODYYY!!!!!!!! WAHWAHWAHHHHH YOU SOUND REALLY FUCKING STUPID GOSHHHHHHHHHH
Great ending fight.
Superb
Cause in the end only kindness matters"🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲
James earl jones was so handsome when he was younger
Remember 007 From Rusia With love? Robert Shaw was the blond one that Bond killed at the train, after an impressive fight. Great actor.
Hadn't heard of this one. Quite a production
Good one! Thanks.
On UK TV this was known as "The Scarlet Buccaneer".
Muy buena la trama de la película saludos de la ciudad de México 🇲🇽
I’m
Typing this before watching the film as must confess excitement since I love Quint and Pirates snd hear this is hilarious
👍 thanks great movie
Thank you 🤩🤩🤩💖💖
James Earl Jones cut quite a figure back in the day. Recognised the voice before I recognised him. 👍
Me too. Earl-Jones has such a distinct voice, anyone who knows him through film would recognise him instantly. A superb narrator who I could listen too forever.
same here.
Same here, James Earl Jones Epic Star Wars Darth Vader voice and set from conan the barbarian.
I enjoyed the movie -- and the politically incorrect exchange of insults before the final battle: "Degenerate!" - "Slut!" -- "Murderer!" - "Filth!" - "Pederast!" You won't hear anything like that in Pirates of the Caribbean. Thank God for the Seventies! And for Robert Shaw and Genevieve Bujold who were very big back then, and rightfully so. Happy New Year everyone!
i love this Movie!
It was so funny that I couldn't help laughing from the beginning to the end
Classic
Wow. Peter Boyle as an action character. James Earl Jones 100lbs lighter. Robert Shaw warming up for the Jaws movie. It's all good fun.
All about freedom all these movies right now is for a reason about the FREEDOM OF THE WORLD
