The first half of last season has skewed our expectations. Over our last 38 league matches since then, we have gotten 74 points, which is a solid top 4 side not a title contending side. Buying a top striker in January is really tricky for Arsenal. To start with it possibly means changing styles to adapt to a more traditional 9. The likelihood that the incoming player is cup tied in Europe (assuming we aren't spending huge, huge, stupid money, even if we can so no Ivan) that means we have different styles in the league and the Champions League, which probably means levels drop in both. Just cant see it happening. City will win the PL and we could do something in the Cl given the way teams tend to play in that, IF we avoid City of course.

  • @garyoconnor1145

We were way ahead of schedule in terms of our progress under Arteta because we had a good purple patch but the reality is more that we’re a champions league place team at the moment - which is still progress. We’re still a few positions away from being title chasers and others will need replacing due to age. It will be a long process and something we longed for during those years without CL football. It is a shame, but it is our reality at the moment.

Always a good watch. I find some commentary (in video comments, other channels, etc) that we need to get a striker in to finish our load of chances AND we need to change tactics…curious. There’s a world where both things can be true, but in our context there’s definitely a disconnect. A lot of discontent for this season seems to come from 1) Not being as quick to goal as the prior campaign (+ things that come with that) and 2) An inability to finish chances that should be scored. And, there’s the other detritus mixed in - but I think to a lesser material impact. It will be interesting to see what the teams approach is after the break; really hope fortunes turn back around in our favor.

  • @teholly1297

Part of why Edu & Arteta have been so successful is that they refuse to be rushed into bad transfer decisions (e.g., overpaying). As such, I figure they will wait until summer to get a better long term fix rather than paying over-odds for a short term fix in January. Don't get me wrong, I'm as keen as anyone for Toney having watched the FA Cup game, but we'll just have to accept that this season might not be the 'one'

  • @sigfigronath

Thankyou for your sensible assessment. Been saying the same thing to all and sundry for weeks but people just don't want to face the reality....meaning they will be disappointed and upset when nothing happens. So many of our fans are sooo reactionary it's crazy. Apart from the Fulham game weve played well but havent stuck the ball in the net. This group of players scored 88 goals last season (minus Granit's). So they obviously are good enough, just going through a poor run of finishing at the same time. So no need to lose our heads and become toxic, just accept this is what we have and hope they wake up in front of goal. I think they will and i wouldn't be surprised if we score 4 or 5 against Palace and then 3 or 4 against Liverpool.

Arteta is in his first era and I would give him this season and next. He doesn’t get a pass like Wenger did who proved himself worthy at Highbury. Arteta has spent a lot of money which should demand a European trophy at the very least.

Not entirely, LFC and City don't always pay 70 mil plus for players. There are players to be had but fitting in the system and how their quality fits as well is the trick.

We don't need a striker we need a CDM so we can allow Rice to move up and down the pitch. I know people will disagree with me but that's all we need, we also need an LB that offers something different to Zinchenko, because sometimes we look like we playing with 2 of the same LB's even when we claim they have different profiles, other than that we just need our players to play less safe passes in the final passes as you said in the last video I watched, because we have the resources up front but everything behind the front line looks a bit shaky

Letting Xhaka go and investing in Havertz was a mistake. We should have held onto Xhaka by all means and invested in a striker.

    @andremeyer6596 Před 5 měsíci

Yes, we are quite short of squad depth at the moment and we do need a proper striker eventually and all that other stuff we need blah blah blah.
But just look at the last three games we’ve played. It’s clear that, right now, we simply just need to get back to putting our chances away. We do pretty much everything well up until that final touch to score the goal. That is our main problem at the moment. January will give these players the break they all need to recharge and get back their form and confidence.
Our season is not over, even if we don’t do anything in the transfer window. We’ve still got a fair few injuries who will be returning sooner or later. This team is also still basically a work-in-progress, so even if trophies don’t come this season, they will eventually.

Havertz was a waste of money. That money could have gone to a striker or winger with more goal output. We could have won the last 5 games based on chances alone.

So for next season the pretty massive 120M deficit of 2020/2021 stops counting. Unfortunately, it should be true for nearly all big spending teams not just us, so the 24/25 transfer window is probably going to be pretty crazy for everybody.

Arsenal actually needs to buy quite a few players. They need a striker, 2 or 3 midfielders and at least 1 winger. We don't have enough money to spend 60 million pounds on 1 player. So we're not gettig a big signing (or rather, we shouldn't).

    Unpopular Opinion But
    - Arsenals primary aim should be CL qualification as we’re slightly ahead of schedule in terms of where we are in Artetas plan. This is still a build with elements of a rebuild thrown in at a time when the PL is probably the most competitive it’s been for nearly 20 years. You only have to look at Chelsea to see how fine the margins are when building and rebuilding a squad.
    - I agree that it’s unlikely we’ll see a striker come in January, if we did it would have to involve losing Eddie for a decent fee and it would need to be a particular profile Mikel trusts. So someone he’s had his eye on for a while. Plus the structure of the deal would need to be viable. I think that’s too many variables for a short window. Mikel trusts Eddie and that’s why Balogun left and he stayed.

becoz there are too many kids joining to be a junior gooner and they don't ever know the waiting for a PL title for 20 years which is too long for some senior fans and only senior fans know many things and excuses at Arsenal are repeating and they actually call for an instant change.

It's just like that scene in Moneyball when Billy Beane asks the team scouts if they could sign a player to replace Jason Giambi who is as good as him. Scouts: No. Beane: And even if there were a player could we afford him? Scouts: No. Beane: THEN WHAT THE F*** ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT MAN!!! Lol.

I honestly believe that the one thing arsenal has been really horrible at is how we get rid of players. Most of the players we have sold have left for pratically nothing. So obviously, with the amount of money we are spending on players, it is going to be difficult to put together a complete squad at the speed that we as the fans would like. We probably need 2 more seasons before we are legit title condendors (squad-wise). The fact of the matter is we did overperform last season, and we're not yet ready to genuinely compete with man city on a year by year basis. Our young team still needs some more depth and development. Unless we sell well this summer and go crazy with the signings (good signings that make an immediate impact), I dont think its realistic for anyone to expect Arsenal to be legit title contendors until the 2025-2026 season. So we just need to stay in the championship league and slowly put together the right squad.

So, yeah, this is all *really sensible* in a sport where hot takes seem to get precedence. And that’s why I like this channel 🙂
We flattened Liverpool in the first half yesterday, it was great. If half those chances are converted how you expect those players to convert, we’re at least 2-0 up at half time and that game is easier to manage, we win, over the ‘slump’ etc.
Upcoming break should help. Players having some sit-down chats/analysis should help. Using the players we have to come up with a bit of tactical unpredictability should help.
    *Should*
But yep need a good defender on loan for sure!
