  • Hazbin Hotel only has one episode out, but it has several prequels in various formats, including both a music video (Addict) and comic about Angel and how he ended up meeting Charlie and staying at the hotel, as well as another comic about a day in the life of alastor, where we finally see a character in their full demon form. What you may not know, is that there are even more planned for the future...

He is also the character that never swears. Everyone else swears like sailors. Even Charlie swears. Alastor doesn't. He doesn't need the words to intimidate anyone. He smiles, you're never fully dressed without one, and speaks very well. And that is freaking terrifying. His whole morality seems defined by how he feels about a person in the moment. He sees someone and they strike him positively so he waves or tosses a coin. And will absolutely destroy anyone that comes after that person. He is a fascinating character.

The way I see it Alistair is the "romantic evil" type.
In the sense that he clearly takes sadistic pleasure in his cruel deeds do satiate his boredom but he never does things without a good reason, personal or otherwise, and he does so with class and elegance. Very similar to lets say a character like Hannibal Lecter.
Take the butcher for example. He killed him just as he was about to murder a customer.
Its possible that Alistair saw this as a heineous act worth punishing not just because the customer did nothing wrong and was a woman, but also because killing your own customer base is just an awful way to run a business.
As for the rose, its possible that at one point he did "love" someone , but that particular bridge might have burned when his true nature was revealed and might have even lead to his death.
This would explain why he goes through such effort to hide his true form and feelings.
As to why he hates Vox (Tv demon) is because he could represent everything Alistair stands against. A chaptic evil entity who jumps from moment to moment doing whatever he wants with no regard for any kind of reasoning other than boredom

I believe that the only true ways to die in hell are either by the angel's weapons or by Lucifer or Lilith killing the sinner/demon in question. If you are "killed" by another sinner/demon then the sinner/demon who was "killed" spends a few days regenerating from the injury until they are fully healed but while they are regenerating the process is slow and painful as a reminder to the sinner/demon that hell is supposed to be an eternal punishment for their sins in life. Hellborne demons on the other hand seem to die for good if killed by things other than angel weapons because Blitzo and the crew of the IMP were scared to be shot at fatally. I wouldn’t be surprised if Angel actually did blow his club up it was just after he took the initial offer from Charlie. The hotel and its guess are under Charlie’s, Lucifer’s (at least the building it self) and now Alastair’s protection and the spear Vaggie wields is an angelic weapon capable of erasing demons and sinners alike. Valentino might not have a choice but to take Angel’s bombing of his club.
So it would be Angel working at the club not directly under Val yet, Val recruiting in abuse him, the drug deal, him meeting Charlie, bombing the club, staying at the hotel.

I like seeing how polite Alastor is with (almost) everyone in the comic, especially the sheep demoness. He greets her as she enters and even seems to have held the door open for her, what a gentleman...
I know chivalry in particular isn't all it was cracked up to be, but the simple consideration Alastor shows to others both in the comic and in the pilot is very refreshing when compared to the rest of Hell. Actually, that's probably part of why he does it come to think of it, as well as probably just being how he is, whether by personal nature or nurtured experience as a radio entertainer.

  • @Smergal
    @Smergal Před 3 lety +39

You got addict fully wrong. In Angel's Instagram he is shown wearing several costumes for clubs or shows. In Husker's Instagram Angel invites him to his show, with ticket and everything. And yes, they did blow the night club up. Remember the car scene in the pilot? Angel says " I owned my girl body a solid! " after Vaggie confronted him about the turf war. Of course, that's what he owed her.
Edot: Adding to what I said, on his Instagram, in the very costume he wore in Addict, he put "bouta hit the stage soon". And in a other post, in a costume that to me resembled a fully blue peacock, he put "at the blue hive club".

Alastor is a performer so it’s no wonder he loves and respects performers! That’s why he’s involved with hazbin hotel 👻 “what a performance!-“
As for the cannibalism, I’m sure he took comfort in finding other cannibals in hell. As I’m sure he didn’t find any in his human life. AND along with other serial killers. Some don’t have a “type” like going after women or children or blonde hair.
He seems to have an ego along with his performance nature. So maybe going after smaller weaker prey could be seen as an insult to the craft for him. That’s why he doesn’t like the butchers actions. Not only that he has nifty, which I’m sure they met in hell. So going after her would be easier. But instead he adopted her lol

7:11 - Something in my mind kinda clicked: humans can take up a demonic form of their choice. Deers and lambs are both common prey animals associated to a sheepish (no pun intended) and passive nature. Alastor chose to take the antlers of a deer, their only means of self-defense against predators.
Makes me wonder if Alastor's motivations have something to do with the whole "hunted becomes the hunter" principle. I'm going out on a limb here, but this part of the comic in particular might imply his cannibalism is how he gets back at the scum of the world who preys upon others (the "bad meat"), specifically vulnerable targets, over something really fucked up that happened to him (perhaps also involving cannibalism) at a very young age, which ultimately made him snap for good or kickstarted a pre-existing but dormant psychosis.

I get the Alastor one, i always thought it was because he was talking about the weaker and/or kinder demons. Alastor isn't exactly mean in the comic or the show. He just holds grudges and will ill talk/kill someone to get ahead of them. As in Overlords and people who could score higher on the power scale. This includes the cannibal meat shop. The goat lady is smaller and seems to be weaker than the shop owner. As in the the lines of calling her fair, it could be because he doesn't see her as a threat to his power in the slightest, but, just as anyone who was/is human, he has some good in him deep down. That's why he went back in and stood up for her, even though it meant scaring her and killing eating a demon that he says "isn't as good as venison, but it will do". He wasn't eating because he was hungry or for power, he was doing the right thing by getting rid of a problem or getting rid of "bad meat". The lady was scared, but she was safe. That's all he came back for, to keep a weaker demon safer in hell. Why would he do that? Because even if he is a powerful "heartless" demon, everyone has a chance at redemption!
Thank you for coming to my ted talk!

Even though this has already been commented many times, I'll also mention it.
It's so strange really, seeing Alastor swear, then again this is directed towards Vox, who's a literal embodiment of what killed the technology Alastor has come to know and love within his past life, being a radio broadcaster.
The comic over all adds quite a bit to Alastor's personality as well as his morals, which helped me understand this character more, which I'm most thankful for.
The comic also really showed the diversity of hell itself, it isn't just a red wasteland of cities, there are other areas to explore (such as that pathway surrounded by trees).
Overall, I loved this prequel comic and I'm so excited to see more of Alastor as a character (and now I'm realizing as I'm typing this I said things that were already mentioned in the video, lmao).

The character that was a "person of interest" for Cherry didn't come across to me as a loved one or someone she's lovingly longing for. To generally refer to that character I'll call them he/him/they/them. Based on the "positive" main character's designs, he doesn't seem drawn the same clean way. I would infer by the character design that he is or wasn't a positive character. My inference is that Cherry Bomb did make a break in one way or another from him, either by his death or simply breaking away. That would lend a greater since of friendship with Angel since in the scenes flashing where Angel and Cherry are alone and Angel having emotional breakdowns/withdrawals. It feels like Cherry has been there and that makes me think that the mysterious interest for her is just another toxic relationship, courtesy of Hell à la carte.

If you notice how they interact with him for their brief encounter they don’t seem to be afraid of Alistor. They pass him with a shy smile and that’s all. This might indicate they might be a newcomer to the underworld. Another thing about this side character is the way they react to Alistor’s cannibalism is interesting. I would assume most demons would be like “holy shite stay away from that guy”, but they were crying (which the only other character we’ve seen cry is Charlie). I know this is a side character who probably has no importance to the story, but I’m already loving this lamb person and trying to figure out who they are. The way they behave isn’t like a typical demon and I just find that so interesting.

Thanks for the update/recap of Zoophobia. I had also hoped it continued. Yeah, I'm sure the backlash could be some of the reason she stopped with it, but I think also time. Everthing takes time, and with the success of Hell of Boss and Hazbin Hotell I just don't think there is time for her. I hope we see a return some day.

One thing I want to tell you: Hazbin Hotel's creator Vivziepop is still on buisness and Ive seen two Helluva Boss episodes uploaded. Souldn't we just wait for the next Hazbin Hotel episode to come up instead of watching this?

You can wait very long then. Hazbin has been picked up by A24, so there won't be any new episodes on YT. Rather than that, it's probably going to be one whole season being broadcast on some TV channel.

I always assumed the music video was how Val and Angel were first acquainted & some extremely brief glimpses into their relationship.

I think the singing is more of a representation of his thoughts during his performances and life and most of the events did happen but not to the extent that’s shown and that because it takes place in hell any disguise no matter how minimal would give angel and cherry some deniability, and because it’s from their perspective they aren’t shown in their disguises but rather how they’d rather be dressed or what outfit makes them feel awesome

Ok i might be misremembering but when the gray guy showed up in addict wasnt that as the line "you may be in power" played? I always thought cherrybomb was in a similar situation to angeldust and that gray guy was the val stand in also considering she doesnt look even slightly happy when she thinks of him makes me think that there is some dislike towards him but i might be wrong

I think Addict is not technically a prequel but takes place side by side with the pilot and the first half of it is real while Angel and Cherry blowing the place up is all in his head. The characters (Angel, Husk, and Niffty) instagrams show angel asking them to go to his nightclub show and even scenes of the music video from different angles.

The way I saw the Addict video is that Cherri had been there through Angel's shittiest moment (the flashes of shots of him crying in his bed with Cherri there, I assumed after a SA incident as per the disclaimer at the beginning of the video.) It gave some insight into how close the two truly are, but also made me think it was meant to somewhat explain what happened with Angel. Maybe hypersexualizing himself became a trauma response, and now he's trying to get out of that loop, along with the cycle of addiction.

Another bit of Alastor's story was in a short comic I read where he protected a woman being attacked. He showed zero remorse in killing several men even when human, as well as his odd version of chivalry.

For the music video Addict i think it refers to the relationship between angel and val, how val provides the addiction and i think the proof is in the end when angel is in his room and throws the cigarette it is in the shape of a heart with red smoke coming out of it also when he is dancing val’s red smoke creates a chocker and handcuffs on angel
