I think they finally touched upon the underlying issue - fear of affecting their popularity. The Korean population can turn on you for uttering the wrong phrase, reading the wrong book, or otherwise offending them through your life choices. K-Pop stars, actors and singers must live in fear of this constantly - an unending state of being morally judged for every little thing. I don’t understand why the Korean public feels they have the right to criticize and even harass stars for their personal choices. I guess it exists in many countries, but it seems quite extreme there.

Absolutely not. It's only exists in SK, I am afraid. Celebs are first of all human beings with feelings, too. There's those who are straight, bisexual and gay, just like everyone else on this planet. Many male Korean celebs are forced by their families and especially management agencies to get married to silence their true sexualities and to avoid scandals, and mostly lose money. Do you people really believe that all K-pop idols and K-Drama actors are 💯 straight? Yiu are so deluded. It's 50/50 in this industry. In fact, the majority of them are bisexual. No mistake on that. As for some celebs who have passed the age of marriage, some of them don't want drama in their lives because their careers come first. Some can't be bothered. And some because they are gay and have secret lovers hidden in their wardrobes. Simple as that. So why make such a big fuss about. Tbh if I were Korean, I wouldn't want to get married and have children's in such dysfunctional society

      @digbycrankshaft7572 Před 6 měsíci +96

It is definitely extreme in SK. That place is 50 years behind the west in social attitudes. I love kpop but Korean society has huge problems including self-righteousness, judgmentalism and hypocrisy. That society needs to concentrate on trying to fix its own problems rather than thinking it has the right to impose its perverted morals on others.

From reading and hearing Asian fan forums (SK, China) it seems the Asian fans have an almost possessive obsession with actors/idols and their personal lives. Korean and chinese stars are afraid to date or get married bc Asian fans will criticize and attack them for having a love life. Agencies will then sometimes make it a contract term to not date and these stars have to date in secret. I think its unfair that these stars who are people too can't live their lives and fans can't differentiate between someone's job and someones personal lives.

I think it is common in Korean entertainment industry. They are more profitable that way than normal people. Imagine the fandom rage. It is actually the reverse that is the problem. The one who wants to have kids and settle down younger like Cha Eunwoo and Jackson Wang and kpop idols will have problem with it

You are right being in a relationship is a decision of somebody’ own right, but to be in a relationship with someone extraordinary is very problematic, so it is just not comfortable…..Having a high maintenance partner makes you less independent. Exactly. I by value my independence and freedom most, and as an extreme introvert, I need time and space on my own so I can ,,charge" for the next day.

Thank you. Completely agree. So fed up with those people judging others, they should mind their own business. To be married or being in a relationship is not necessarily the path to happiness.
There are those who cannot bear to be alone but they live an unhappy life. Those who feel alone among others. And there are especially “those who like to be alone and are happy".
      I am one of them.
To be alone doesn’t necessarily mean you are lonely, sad or depressed.

These men, like all unmarried men/women, can easily be categorized into five categories:
    1) The ones who are indifferent. If they meet someone they love, then they'll wed but if not then they're ok with that too.
    2) The ones who are too career-minded and busy to maintain a long-term committed relationship.
    3) The ones who simply don't want marriage.
    4) The ones who are currently in a relationship or some sort of sitautionship but prefer to keep their love life private.
    5) The ones who are gay and are trapped in a forever closet due to being famous in an extremely conservative nation.
Either way, it's none of our business.

There are people in their 40’s, 50’s and people even 60’s and are not celebrities, not getting married is a personal choice and has nothing to do with popularity and fame. They just chose not to. Iam a 32 Muslim woman, single and last dated 10yrs ago. While I love kids a lot marriage rarely crosses my mind. I did want to get married before but not anymore. Now all I care about is work and live my life freely on my own. But the amount of people who tell me to get married becoz it means “respect” but I ask respect for whose sake. If anyone feels like they are ashamed of me not being married, they can take a hike lol. People demand it from you like it’s to their benefit and it makes me avoid it a even more.

In Korea, it seems your career is pretty much over once you're in a serious relationship. So I can understand why so many celebrities stay single for so long. But by the time you reach your 40s, it's a wrap. One is so unwilling to give up all that freedom by then. Also, older men want young women they can control. Younger women today don't want to be controlled. They want independence, too.

It’s a big more savage than worrying about popularity. Their handlers at their companies make it difficult if not impossible. They just seem to have the people at their companies. No separate manager or lawyer or agent to look out for them. The company insists on their single hood. It seems the few marriages we find about out are people meeting through a project and getting pregnant. Although divorce usually follows. We know entertainers sometimes loose all rights to a personal cell phone, at least the first 7 years. That is another thing the contracts they end up in are ridiculously long.

Seems to me that about half of these actors actually think Marriage is important and won't take the step just because they're running out of time, so to speak. They, however, continue to date fellow actors generally ensuring a failed marriage in the end. (An 80% failure rate in intercelebrity marriages ensures this depressing fact.) So hopefully they will look further afield. The other half are, as the psych said, not wanting their popularity to wane. Certainly that would depend on how they age, as their popularity could fall due to their looks anyway Already I see a number of younger handsome actors who are starting to age terribly. Regardless of these facts, aren't they lucky that they don't have the clock beating upon them that us women have?

I think the reason that actors date other actors is because they understand the life. It is very hard for someone outside of this to understand the hectic schedule. And it is even harder for actresses in Korea. Most male actors continue their career while female actresses are expected to give up their careers to take care of the family.

I think when you just focus on yourself growth you don’t think really about serious romantic relationships. You mind is more focus on survival and independence before thinking about taking care of others. I don’t think there is a certain time frame “time” to get married. You can get married at 18 or 81 it doesn’t matter. What counts is the happiness each partner has in the relationship. There nothing wrong with not wanting to get married either. Does not mean your alone.

Why should they marry when all of them know they can have companionship any time they want. These guys are not going to have trouble dating well into their 60s maybe 70s. Marriage is contentment, commitment, compromise, sacrifice, work, and hardships. That’s real love. These guys don’t want that. Which is ok. It’s good they don’t marry. Hey, to each their own. They’ll have to live with their choices. Marriage isn’t for everyone. No one should get married because they think they should. It’s got to be for the right reasons and with the right person who compliments your personality, whether they are opposite of you or on the same page as you. Both can be fulfilling. ❤

Experience: Marriage is not for "Everyone!" I see people try hard to make things work, but for some reason or another the expectations and reality hits them like a ton of bricks! Marriage is just a contract to benefit your financial life and give you tax breaks, and others expect the other party is suppose to make you happy! 🤣 Sharing a house, a bed, your shower, your kitchen, your time, and more, that's the challenge. Then come the kids, boy oh boy, will that change your life 360! Your life ends, when your kids begin! It is said: "If you had a chance to go back in time, what would you have done different?" A lot of people say "Nothing, I would do it all over again!" Now that's funny to me, because I know if they say different, it's denying their entire life, but be honest. What would you have done different? I've told my kids "I should have lived my life different, like traveling more, seeing other cultures, enjoy my life as a single woman longer before marriage then maybe had kids." They totally agree with me, because that's how they live their lives, enjoy it while you can, and NEVER expect another person to make you happy EVER! Find your own happiness. Marriage is Not Everything!

Marriage requires a huge amount of compromise, and unselfishly giving up every tiny thing you actually want to defer to couple happiness. Whether it's what you really want for dinner, cleaning up after someone else, or dealing with someone else's family situations... Sometimes it is just easier to come home have a girl dinner, play a video game while watching a k-drama and chill. Selfish yes but also really happy abd peaceful

It's interesting, they're not 'incels' either [men who desire a partner but can't get one.] When you probe with a few questions, the biggest reason is financial. They have male friends who got married, got divorced and they have to pay child support for the next 18 years. They like their freedom. A lot of single women would cite finances as well. Это их личное дело. i feel like they’re more scared to date especially publicly. fans are very weird and invasive towards korean celebrities personal life, they act like they owe them everything. but i do hope kim namgil finds someone, he’s literally someone who’s very close to the word perfect.

I'm in the same age range. It's not so bad being single...for now. 🙂

I wouldn't be shocked if not a single man on that list is heterosexual. Still love many of them though 😍

Lee dong wook had married for a short while then divorced. So he should not be part of these guys not getting married so far. I believe some of them already have a relationship with their assistants next to them. They will officially announce when they get married later.

What if number 4 guy is just gay? Why isn't it an option? He does live with his friend at 50!

@@korean1upI think it's rather suspicious and this is what you'd expect a gay couple to say. We are not gonna pretend gays don't exist, right? 😆But we can't say for sure, of course.

These actors AND actresses have to devote probably more than 100% of their time to their careers. They work super hard and the studios are pretty strict and, yes, probably very manipulative with their clients.

6:37 the part about the female friend was taken from a blog with the translation of the interview from 2008, which was 16 years from now, but this video omitted some parts of what Kim Nam-gil fully said. He was asked, "Are you someone who can be just friends with women?" He answered "Yes. I have such a friend. We have been neighbors since we were young, and even our parents know each other very well, so we are sort of like relatives. There was a time when I came back home from vacation to find my family telling me that there were guests at home, so they asked me to spend a night outside with her, returning only the following day. When we were at a hotel, that friend didn’t even close the toilet door. She even jokingly said that if we are still not married yet in the future, we should just get married to each other. She’s the only friend who never forgets to come over to my house to open a birthday party for me on my birthdays. Male friends wouldn’t be able to do that".
However, since this was from an old interview, I wonder what his thoughts about it are now. Is it still the same, or has there been a changed perspective?
