      Not quite the same thing, but a lot of those quest reward glamour sets can be rebought for small sums of gil from calamity salvagers, such as the Scholasticate Coat which you can rebuy infinitely for 100 gil. There's some glamour items that I just threw away rather than stored anywhere, because I know I can just go buy them again on the rare occasion I actually want to use any of them. Still not a good substitute for a proper glamour catalogue or even being able to leverage the armoire for quest rewards, but it's something, for now.

      Hell just set all level one items to be storaeble in the armoire. Then they don't have to sort through all the items to designate them one way or the other. Then have the armoire sort the same way as the dresser instead so it's easier to find the gloves or hats or boots you're looking for.

    a "shopping list" feature for crafters. Where you could add any number of items you wanted to craft, and the game would track the raw and precraft mats you have to make a list of what you still need to get to craft it all at once... basically what teamcraft does, but in-game. • @hokagejason4732
      @hokagejason4732 Před 5 měsíci +17

      No they are not the same in practice they are vastly different concepts. One is a reward one is a punishment. One slows down the rate at which you level, the other has zero impact on it.
      Getting a bonus to exp gained for time you spent logged out just compensates you for the time you did not spend on the game. There is zero punishment to this method, and it does not give you incentive to log out. It simply says hey, if you do log out, we'll help you out a little. Not a lot.
      Reducing the amount of xp gained if a person plays too long is directly punishing, and depending on how big the percentage reduction is, could effectively make playing over the "effective period" a complete waste of time.
      Rested xp is completely different. You can play for 100 hours straight and you aren't losing out on anything. Playing with normal xp is still more effecient than logging out for 20 hours to get 3 hours of rested xp.
      They are entirely different.

The system is the exact same, just perceived differently.

    • @Awuga
      @Awuga Před 5 měsíci +9

      @hokagejason4732 the difference is solely in terms of presentation, by presenting is as a bonus you earn it makes the play feel good about, even if the numbers could be exactly the same where they just assume you start at the full rested bonus and then lose it as if it was a fatigue system.

    Materia needs its own storage place as well. There are so many in the game, and using lower level materia on lower level characters almost never happens, because after a point, there's so much that your storage/inventory doesn't warrant keeping it. Concerning the TP, it was a holdover from 1.0 where TP would instead build up and then allow you to use a weaponskill that had a TP cost related to it. It was the way it was implemented in FFXI where weaponskills were more like special moves you could use once in a while instead of your basic skillset. Nowadays, TP has pretty much been phased into specific job gauge for both tanks, melee and ranged DPS which kind of serves a similar purpose (using more powerful / unique abilities) with the difference being the way that they're built up being part of the job identity itself.
    I still miss having an AST using Arrow on a Monk... which now that there's no more TP, would have been much more awesome every so often.
    As for what I'd like added to FFXIV? Chat bubbles. Make it easier to see who's talking by having a bubble pop over your character with either the full text or at least a good part of the text shown. NPCs already uses them for flavor text in cities and places like that and I know there are mods that accomplishes this too. On the plus side, Preach did confirm with YoshiP in at the NA Fanfest that they were coming.

    • @FizzieWebb
      @FizzieWebb Před 5 měsíci

      Honestly, chat bubbles work for in game chat.
      Phantasy Star Universe and PSO2 use them, and it makes it super easy to pick out who's talking at any given moment, and if you're in a party, your party members chat bubbles take precedence in displaying over others, and can be seen from an infinite distance away, even if they're in another load zone.
      It can affect performance a bit though, as a lot of chat bubbles popping in and shrinking away causes a lot of slowdown in heavily populate areas on PSO2, so I can understand giving them a limited implementation, like party/dungeon only type stuff in 14.

    To implement it, you don't need much data, all you need is a list of integers; if the game has 2048 wearable items, this will need about 8KB per character (or preferably per account).
    These integers will be a list of 'item' Ids that uniquely identify items in the game, with #5 probably being something like the midlander's starting underpants.
    We don't need any extra information, like dyes (though last used dye would be cool for reapplication), materia, soulbonding, repair, relic upgrades (though I suspect these are tracked in quest state anyway), and so on.
    Assuming they've got 50 million characters, split across many data centers - they'll need just shy of about 400GB of storage to store 8KB per character.
    That said, the glamour dresser as I understand it stores a lot more than just 800 item Ids, so the reality should be a lot less than that estimated 400GB worst case.

    • @FrozenPear
      @FrozenPear Před 5 měsíci +3

      Yeah exactly, claiming that it's a data issue sounds really bizarre. Even if it's concern about introducing more data being exchanged with the server it shouldn't matter as it would be only accessible in Inn room shards, and well few KB of extra data being transferred is nothing nowadays.
      I really don't believe explanation that it's because of technical limitations tbh, if they wanted to do it they would like they did with many other "impossible" systems. Even Fishing Log is almost the same thing - you unlock new fish in real time while playing the game and there are hundreds of those.
      That being said IMO real reason is to keep artificial item limit to sell more retainers for real money.

      This is basically the system WoW switched to, and it goes so far as to remember this information account-wide, so even if I'm making a new character on a new server, I'll still have all the appearances I've unlocked on old characters.
      There's no reason some version of this can't be done for FFXIV.

    • @korrokemono9006
      @korrokemono9006 Před 5 měsíci

      I'm not gonna claim to know exactly what I'm talking about but according to google FF14 has just shy of 50 million players. it's unclear if this is accounts or created characters. Assuming its accounts, each account can have up to 40 characters per data center and there's 4 data centers meaning each account could, in theory have 160 characters.
      This means you'd have to times the storage needed by 160 to a total of 64 terabytes just for the current players. granted it's incredibly unlikely every player would max out their character slots it's still something that'd have to be accounted for just in case.
      But if many other MMO can have a catalog feature, some of which rake in significantly less than FF14 I have to assume there's a much less storage intensive solution out there anyway.

    • @billy65bob
      @billy65bob Před 5 měsíci +1

      @@korrokemono9006 I pulled that 50 million out of my ass, good to know that's at least in the right ballpark, lol!
      There are optimisations that can be done; take that 2048 items example, with some clever use of arrays, this can be represented within a 256 byte payload.
      While that doesn't do much for server side storage - an MMO is basically a database in game form afterall - this form of data is incredibly susceptible to hoffman coding and other forms of lossless compression.
      That said, that 400GB is a total, and will in practice be subdivided across datacenters.

    Another thing about the SMN and SCH pets was they would count for spliting damage for split damage AoEs, as it was common to run both from Coils 5, so someone could solo a fireball with them. For those who don't know, the number of people who get fireballed made another abitily cast by that boss happen faster on how many "players" wore hit, but the pets weren't players so they could split damage but not speed up the next cast too much. Which would often kill the team back in 2.0/2.1.

    The ONE thing I want them to add for 7.0 is that if you are level 30 and above...you HAVE to have equipped your job stone to queue in for any content. I'm currently running my mentor roulette for my mount and the amount of level 50+ people that I get in content WITHOUT their job stone is insane. If they cannot implement this change then I would settle for the job quests being made mandatory along side the MSQ. I realize people do "no job stone" challenges so maybe adding a toggle for Party/Duty Finder alongside would make everyone happy but please...no more level 50 gladiators/conjurers in alliance raid roulette...

    • @lhfirex
      @lhfirex Před 5 měsíci

      So when I started playing back in Shadowbringers 3 years ago, I started with the free trial on one of the level 70 EXP buff servers. I was a level 54 marauder before I even unlocked jobs (since they're now gated by MSQ progress, and you have to get through the sylph stuff) and it sucked not having all of these skills available. And some of the ARR level 50 dungeons you can pick up before completing 2.0, like Amdapor Keep or the one with all the tonberries, so it's possible that new players could queue for dungeons like that with only their basic level 50 class abilities available.
      Still though, I know of at least one asshat who levels up purely as a lancer because of some stupid RP bullshit "Estinien is the only dragoon" thing when they're really just trolling, so yeah. Once you get past MSQ content that you'd normally have your job stone for, it should be required/auto-equipped for the classes that don't have it by default anyway.

      Back in 2.0, when you became a job with the stone equipped, there were certain class skills and traits you lost. Paladins at 30 especially suffered from this, and it showed in Brayflox and Titan. Many paladins would unequip and become gladiator to have more abilities for tanking that dungeon and primal. It is no longer necessary, but it used to be common. Some people would then just forget to reequip.

    I would add "Support" as a job type. I played FFXI for 12 years, and while I dabbled in a little of everything, my bread and butter were Bard and Red Mage. My Bard was fully kitted with both super instruments (Gjallarhorn and Daurdabla) and all RME daggers. I miss being the MP battery, the melee DPS's best friend, and the reason for so many successes. I really wish this game had hard coded "support" jobs with their own icon and everything.

    The accuracy charts were especially wild with how the accuracy changed per-fight in a tier, so you would have different actual BiS values for each fight. It was also kind of funny being ranged and having pseudo-positionals because it was optimal to not gear for max hit on the front, so despite being in the middle of nowhere, depending on how the tank turned the boss, you might need to run 1/4 across the arena to reach the flank or something.

    My one thing (that isn't something that other people will have already said) is actually a new game type for the Gold Saucer (and not blitzball) that I would call "Minion Tactics". It would play very similar to battles in Final Fantasy Tactics, you would use your minions as you would your characters. The models, attacks, and stats are all implemented to a degree for Lord of Verminion, and I think it could be an interesting way to get minions to be relevant again.

      The reason this happened is because of the balancing nightmare theyve had with healers from day 1. WHM didn't have too much issue, but SCH had the problem of sharing a lot of abilities with SMN, so a buff or nerf would affect both of them, then AST came out and it was the definition of unbalanced with the card system. They don't want one healer to be too much better or worse than the others, because they dont want groups discriminating like that, its why they also got rid of the old card system.

    There are a lot of QoL changes that I use plugins to change, like having the area background art on teleport loading screens, or shields showing up on your main health bar rather than exclusively on the party list. There's even a really cool one I found that lets you edit the title screen to be in game areas, with presets for all of the previous expansion's title screens (which should already be in the game as the title screen will change depending on the last opening movie you watched, albeit only once.) It would probably be a good idea to have the devs look at those plugins (which at least I would assume normal people with programming experience were able to implement pretty cleanly, I would imagine the actual devs could do that as well even if they require a higher quality to the features.)
    But if I had to pick only one thing it would be Chat Bubbles for players. The only reason I see not to implement it in theory would be that densley populated areas would get filled by chat bubbles, but in practice it works fine. Worst case it's linked to what text is in the chat box, and best case it could have it's own settings for what you want to show up or not. It's such a little thing, but I genuinely can barely imagine the game without it and I would love for it to be a permanent thing.

    A quick way to sort any list in a menu. IE one click sort all my gear sets by item level. Sorting my gear-set list manually is a nightmare sometimes. This could also be used to fix the annoying tribe crafting list. On the left side of the crafting window every group starts with the older content at the botom of the list and newer grouping at the top. With the exception of the tribe crafting groups. Which is backwards. It blows my mind and triggers my OCD a little bit that to this day Ixali Tribe crafting recipes are at the top of the Tribe Quest section and the Loporrits are at the bottom.

    Another thing you missed was how in early ARR maiming gear had a lower magic defense rating but a higher physical defense stat so inherently DRG would take MORE magic damage than a MNK. The most famous example of this and what caused these stats to be equalized was how in the final coil of Bahamut (T13,) when people were progging the fight. DRG was literally UNABLE to survive certain mechanics like Earthshaker and the final transition of Teraflare because their magic defense stat on their gear was that much lower than MNK. MNK also was the only class with the ability to reduce magic damage via Dragon Kick as Dragon Kick would reduce the intelligence stat by 10% in addition to the blunt resistance. Crazy times 😂

    I loved the early version of Summoner. Where you had your pet attack alongside you as you fight. And the reason for its change/removal was because you could cheese certain fights with Titan-Egi. The main one being Ramuh Extreme, when it took considerably less damage than tanks. You could have a 6-DPS; 2-healer fight that when it first came out.

    6:33 I think a valid reason why this isn't implemented is because if and when you die to a boss, the long journey back should give you some time to reflect on why you wiped and perhaps even think of a different plan. This is especially so in a queued dungeon with 3 other real people. As much as it might seem like a quality of life bonus, I think people overlook the punishment that helped them think of alternate solutions. The more painstaking a punishment, the less likely you would want to make the same mistake that lead to it.

    What I would like to see in Final Fantasy XIV is something Housing related. If this is already in game please let me know. I would like to see something like stand in "Dolls" of main and side characters such as Y'Shlola, Sadu and Lyse. You could have them placed in various rooms of the house. An example of this is look at the Star Wars the Old Republic MMO, in their housing system you can purchase and place characters in your house to give a bit of lively look. They did nothing more than just stand in one spot and really did not have any idle animations. They just were there and you could RP with them in the room (Hopefully this makes some sense) But that is what I would ask for in XIV right now if it is not already there.

    The only thing I want is individual combat expression in classes. Every SAM is the same, every DRG is the same. So on. I think if we had mastery trees or allowed for cross-class skills again, it would allow for this. Complaining that this would ruin balance is a falsehood, there are still classes at the bottom and top of dps charts. Complaining "everyone is just going to take the best skill" well people didn't stop playing MCH when it was shit for several patches, did they? As long as the balance allows them to clear, it's fine. People can pick for flavor, just like they do classes, as long as it isn't a massive gimp.
    If nothing else, cross-role would be interesting to me. To take role actions from other roles. Tanks could take second wind or bloodbath (though DRK or PLD with Lucid Dreaming could be funny); dps could take rampart, provoke, or raise; healers could take rampart, or... something.

    One feature I would like to see as a Tank is ninja pulling DPS get insta killed if they pull too far ahead of the party, Tank Tanks, DPS do Damage, HEALER Heals.
    It's not rocket science, or at least give all tanks a Rush or Leap ahead skill to get ahead of ninja dps with less lag than me. Actually just give all Tanks the speed jump/rush etc from the first dungeon lvl,would save so much aggro (literally).
    I seem to spend more effort racing the ninjas just to keep control of the mobs, and they wonder why queues are so long.

    The "Accuracy" stat is technically still in the game to this day. It has just been tied to 'character level vs mob level', and if your level is equal to, or higher than the mobs level, then you have 100% accuracy. You can test this by attacking a training dummy that is higher level than you and you will notice some of your GCD attacks will completely miss.

    I'd love for there to have a "skip unskippable cutscene vote".
    Let's say 4 people get queued up for main scenario roulette and they've all completed ARR. You could vote for the cutscene to be skipped if you've already seen it, and everyone else could. IF EVERYONE votes for the CS skip, the cutscene gets skipped.
    New players who are going through the MSQ won't get this feature until after they've completed that dungeon once.
    So if a DPS is trying to pressure a new player to skip the long cutscene? Too bad, they're gonna wait for the new player to finish the CS.

    I'd personally love a means to streamline desynthing multiple items. When I'm clearing out my armoury chest, my usual method for getting rid of stuff I don't want is to hand things in at the Grand Company and then desynth the stuff that can't be handed in that way. The catch is that desynthing multiple items is done one item at a time for 99% of the time since most items that can be done with it don't stack in the inventory, such as equipment.
    Something like how handing in items for the Doman Restoration would work. Select 10 items, then confirm that you want to desynth all of them and the game will do it in one shot. Hell, make it a retainer function so you can immediately sell whatever desynth results that you don't want to keep.

    If they added one thing, I'd want a "Catching your breath" buff added. When you exit combat it would automatically be applied and last 10 seconds and when its falls off you ALL your cooldowns reset. But if you enter combat before that your cooldowns are unaffected. This means people are more encouraged to use their buffs and such on mob pulls, thinking of tanks with mitigation here mostly and not have to wait before a boss pull to have your full kit back. Sure minor balancing tweaks would need to happen, but I'm sick of being rushed through when I'm tanking by impatient people.

  • @hedizaoui609
    @hedizaoui609 Před 5 měsíci

    If I could have any one thing added right now it'd be one of two things
    -Transmog system like in WoW, I'm sad that it'll probably never happen like you said in the vid but there's SO much beautiful armor in this game it makes me so mad to have to limit myself to just a few because the glamour system is so undercooked. I don't care if the item has to be destroyed to be added to my glamour log, if I have to pay company seals or prisms, it would be SO good...
    -A Materials bank where I can just throw in any mats and they'll be pulled automatically when I craft something, the amount of times I've farmed a low level mat to craft 1 or 2 things, then threw it out or sold it because "well I don't have the space to keep all that shit" only to need it a day or two later for another completely different craft is mind boggling

    Big thing i'd want added. If you are crafting next to a Summoning Bell, let you just use your retainer inventories as your own for the purposes of what materials are available. as it is RN it's awful going down the list of required materials, going "Search for item", open your retainer list, the search menu vanishes for no reason so now gotta check your chat and hope that isn't going quickly to find all your items and do it over and over and over Just to craft your food for another raid night

  • @UmatsuObossa
    @UmatsuObossa Před 4 měsíci

    In 1.0 failing a meld not only destroyed the materia you were trying to meld...it destroyed the ITEM and all the materia already on it, and you only got ONE guaranteed melt, with subsequent meld chances reducing drastically. That full meld crown was actually a HUGE bragging rights item back then. I crafted like 100 electrum needles and blew up most of them until i finally won my crown. The final meld chance was 1-6% depending on the item and materia. Materia was actually MUCH more important back then too with raid groups often refusing invites unless you had fully melded gear... no big deal to just blow up a few poeces of armor until you got lucky, right? WRONG! Because best in slot gear came exclusively from BRUTAL speedrun dungeon runs (majority of players couldn't achieve this, and if you had ONE not-good player on your party, you couldn't achieve it either), and only ONE person per run would get ONE piece of the gear. And though it was a "speedrun", they would take about 2 hours of preparation and 1 hour to actually do it...if you didn't mess up and have to start over. The next best thing was NM gear, where you would have to search an entire zone for a particular monster who may or may not appear that day, and hope your party can 'tag' it before another party does, then hope you win the roll on the rare material, then find someone skilled enough at crafting (it was NOT easy back then), and hope they didn't break it......THEN have that crafter meld it for you...only to likely blow it up.

    If I could add anything from XI to XIV, it would be the Subclassing system. I loved being able to pair up my White Mage or Blue Mage with something that would round it out or be fun to do, like Blue Mage/Beastmaster (BLU/BST) was just fun to play, being able to throw attacks at monsters while using monsters to fight with me too lol.
    I also wish some of XIV's PvP classes would be how the actual class functions, like Red Mage being able to switch between White and Black to either increase healing or dps and I feel like it gives players more choice than "pocket healer/rez"

    • @anthonydelfino6171
      @anthonydelfino6171 Před 5 měsíci +1

      That's kind of what the cross class system used to be, though, and I feel like they dropped it because they wanted to have all jobs have access to certain skillsets regardless of if you play any other jobs.
      I can remember the days of running into melees who didn't have invigorate because they didn't level dragoon or didn't have goad because they didn't level ninja, and almost no one had mantra because the level requirement to unlock that from monk was so high.
      This was especially true for skills that technically weren't optional on jobs, like having level black mage to get swift cast if you played a healer.

  • @UmatsuObossa

    In 1.0 you could wear ANY armor at ANY level on ANY job... THAT is how they should make it again. It worked because if you put on gear for the wrong job or too high a level, it would tank the gear's stats... This made it where people absolutely did wear their job/level appropriate gear to fights...but then they'd wear whatever they liked best when they went into town (glamour didn't exist). They need to bring this back.
