Jay should drive it into a Caddy dealership in 2018 and ask for a 100 year service!
Albert Stadt 🤣🤣🤣 just saw this post... can you imagine the look on the tech’s face when he pulled up? 😂😂😂😂
the comments section for jay lenos Garage is the nicest on CZcams. no trolls and no bitching. just appreciation and enthusiasm
Dan Sneyd that's because we hunt the trolls down, grind them up and present them to Lord Leno as a gift to fuel his wondrous machines.
Of course. This channel deserves nothing less. Jay is the consummate car enthusiast, a great entertainer, and he’s sharing his entire collection (including ride-alongs!) and more in his friendly way with unvarnished joy.
Jay is a good guy that tells it like it is . Best CZcams channel in my eyes. Jay is the man and deserves respect
Of course it's smooth - those parts have had 96 years to get acquainted.
Jay Leno is actually quite funny, charming, modest, enthusiastic and very well informed in these videos. They're great.
I also totally envy the bastard.
I feel like this is the opinion of everyone who watches his videos :D
What, no radio? Lol! KDKA didn't start broadcasting til November 1920 and they were the first commercial station. No Beach Boys! Beautiful car though.
Not me. My hot wheel collection rivals his, and mine all fit inside the house!!
@@tonynguyen2452 did you copy past this exact comment from somewhere else?😂 I guess you really want us to know that KDKA didn’t start until 1920. Well thank you sir I appreciate the info
Hey Jay, I never comment, but i wanted to say Thank you, thanks for 1) showing it to us 2) keeping it original , but most importantly 3) For actually loving and keeping such automobiles for future generations.
Top Gear is a show about cars, Jay Leno's garage is a car show.
top gear has stopped being about cars over 10 years ago.. it's all about the hosts and fooling around and doing irrelevant things. It is funny and entertaining but it's all scripted and they don't teach me anything i don't know already. jay lenos garage is about CARS.
I love how he goes into the history of a machine when he knows it and tell you about the cars life.
in 2017 top gear is show about cars, Jay leno's garage is car show and The Grand Tour is comedy show with cars
Wow -- unrestored, nearly 100 years old, and lookin' great. What an amazing car.
With today's highly-computerized, built-in obsolescence? Um, probably not ... bit surprise there, right? I'll be happy if I can coax another ten, out of my 2000 Dodge Neon!
John Ryan, I'm sure in 20+ years some enthusiast(s) will have a saved Prius lol It's amazing what cars some people save, but it's what makes car culture so amazing.
I love his passion for this car. You can tell really tell how much this car means to him. It was really a joy for him to be behind the wheel. Glad to see
You can tell by just the way he touches the car how much he truly loves and cherishes it. The fact that it is completely original, and it still runs beautifully. He has a real connection with it that he shares with few other things in the world.
What, no radio? Lol! KDKA didn't start broadcasting til November 1920 and they were the first commercial station. No Beach Boys! Beautiful car though.
Love the owner's manual stating at the 6:54 mark that
...... "95% of all so-called troubles are directly traceable to YOU ! It's Your Fault ! You did something wrong.... You don't understand how the car works !"
CLASSIC and Still TRUE TODAY.
The problem is that with new cars you REALLY don't understand how the car works.
And also the problem of 80% of new car's are, they're throw aways... They always break down and need constant parts, even with regular maintenance...🤷♂️. Yes lots of owners just don't care and let it fall apart, but lots keep up and maintain them..
Dear Jay,
Thank you for your time and talent in educating us about these beautiful slices of time gone by. Love this Cadillac. Glad to see it driven. Sounds like the engine isn't even working all that hard.
Beautiful.....hard to believe a 100yr old car can still be this pristine. Thank you Jay for showing everyone your cool collection. Love the "Horseless Carriage" plate.
The dash clock is a Waltham? I have a Waltham pocket watch that I inherited from my grandfather. Made in 1903, it still works!
That’s really cool. Pretty amazing it’s survived all this time. Not to sound like a grumpy old guy, but it’s true that you don’t get quality like that much anymore.
Those green lights are very artistic, though. They may not be original, but I think they look nice, and they don't take much away from the original look. Beautiful car.
I really love the intro to this video too. It's a real touch of class
they did that back in the day so they could pick out their vehicle in the parking lot at Safeway
It is stained glass fitted in the headlamp housing, simple mod that amazingly has lasted.
Im struggling to find my fix of jays garage, nearly seen em all :( Love this show
Great that we have guys like Leno, he loves the historic old cars and has the resources to maintain and restore them. A win for us all.
Makes me want to run out and buy one, but wait! 1918? Who's got one for sale? (sigh)
It drives so nice and quiet! Beautiful machine. I also love the green detail in the headlamps.
This is one of my favorite shows. One of the things I really like most about it, is that Jay never talks about what it cost or what it's worth. He understands that money talk would ruin the fantasy experience for viewers.
The original owner before Jay, was John woodward(my customer)I had the chance to keep it service and Jay had said don't sell it until 3yrs more then I'll give you more $$$ when it reaches 100yrs old.... and he sold it to Jay.
There was only back brakes ,and that was a belt like fabric strap simular to peice of fire hose that gets tighten on the outside type drum .
Jay, thanks for taking the time to make these videos and share this rolling history with all of us. Really appreciate the time you devote to the videos as they are both enjoyable and educational. We need to ensure this history lives on with the next generation and this helps greatly.
Beautiful automobile - back in the day when pride of workmanship & fine craftsmanship were important! Thanks Jay, for preserving this fine piece of Americana - love this show!
I repaired the fuel pump head on this actual vehicle for john, propbably 5yrs ago . it was the leather "O" ring seal , so had to use a neoprene based o ring ! The shaft of pump would walk out fully deployed ,bleeding the pressure of fuel tank . The old girl cleaned up well , wondering if you re-wrapped exhaust down pipe or had replaced it ? Got to drive it ....2miles but john was with me and that was enough ,i was very happy !!
Original unrestored. These are the best episodes.
"Cadillac is the Rolls Royce of automobiles". HA HA! Thanks for the laugh, Jay. :)
Love the genuine enthusiasm for these old machines that Jay conveys, what a pleasure to watch and enjoy. Thanks for this series!
June 14th, 1918 my Grandfather, William Adrain Van Lieshout was awarded the first Ford Dealership in the state of Wisconsin, by Henry Ford and associates. The city was Kaukauna, WI. It was called the William Van Lieshout Ford Motor Company.
*cadillac manual calls him an idiot if he breaks something*
“Fantastic”
That's why you don't need to lock it to stop robbers, they wouldn't be able to get it to even crank
@@wildman510 can you explain to me the throttle lever on the steering wheel by chance? I don’t get it, if he has a gas pedal then what does that do? I don’t understand the controls really at all on that car.
I love Jay Leno’s garage all the thing he does, I watch on CZcams all the time , and you know what he does thing like even the big guys like Motor Trend won’t do, nobody is doing what he does, reporting test driving all this old cars, odd cars rare cars. I love what Rod kill /Motor Trend does but they do different thing, Jay does completely different things, different cars. In one word he surpassed Motor Trend taking into a consideration that he is a one individual vs. them a huge corporation with a lot of employees.
Let Motor Trend report on the 2017 Malibu and Fusion. Jay does cars that he finds interesting.. regardless how old or how available now.
Its now 100 years old and unrestored and still runs great very beautyful car indeed...
What an awesome car!! Thanks Jay for bringing these cars to us who wouldn't usually see them. Older cars had so much character and quality.
I love this car, and can't stop thinking about it.
what a beautiful car..the white walls and wooden spokes really set it off..no modern cars can match the romance and charm of these vintage master pieces.
Wow. I can't believe that is the original paint job. Just incredible. What a beautiful car.
One of the most beautiful cars I've seen on the show. Nice.
You got to be f...kidding. Amazing fact this car is almost 100 years old, and rolls like, OR EVEN BETTER, than any new thing out there. I am glad Mr. Leno has a shitload of cash so he can take care of all these beauties.
After working with new Cadillacs in Lansing, what a delight this video is. I felt we were making something special just like the old days.
What an incredible piece of rolling automotive history... Just like it was over 100 years ago and still running fine and dandy. That V8 started right up and sounded sweet... You could just see the smile on Jay's face as he tooled around, shifting the gears and enjoying that beautiful piece of true American 'iron'... The horn just kills me every time... What a total time machine and the fact that you can still drive it in today's traffic is a TRUE testament to Mr. Leyland and his team....
What a lovely Caddy! I am amazed how easily it starts and how smooth and quiet it is! Jay is such a worthy guardian of automotive history. It's never in question how much he loves and respects just about anything that rolls!
beautiful example of a stunning classic, so glad I found this video .
My grandad has been restoring his for 30 years! When he bought it, it was a chassis and wheels he then went on to buy another as a parts car! He has 5 Cadillacs.
why is the fatmans wheel not a thing in modern cars.
i want one
therealnightwriter
my truck has tilt steering, but i mean collapsable steering like in the 1918 caddy in this video.
+therealnightwriter Some even have or had swing away steering columns Thunderbirds & etc.
+Justin Bechtel Get a new Lexus LS. The steering wheel AND the driver's seat retract, and then move toward each other, when you start the car. Quite obnoxious, actually. And for those of us who turn our cars off at bank ATMs, the retracting seat makes it a logistical challenge to stop the car at the right spot in relation to the ATM buttons. My assumption is that this feature is meant to accommodate portly drivers.
Jay's enthusiasm is contagious! My favorite upload is he and his 63 Falcon Sprint.
I've always wondered what will happen to This Magnificent car collection when Jay leaves us. There's nobody that takes care of their cars anywhere better than Jay. Amazing man he went from sleeping in his 55 Buick which he still has today Greatest assortment car collection in the world of various different cars and other things amazing man
I've wondered the same. I imagine Jay one day may start selling them off to good homes.
Just adore those real old cars. If you care for them they are literally indestructible... Thanks, Jay!
Keep the videos coming Jay, very educational stuff.
You're an inspiration to all the car guys out there.
A beautiful piece of automotive history. Thank you, Jay!
I really like Jay Leno. Not because he's funny but because he is a car guy. You know people that have car collection's like Jays are cool, but Jay knows about every vehicle he owns and gets his hands dirty restoring the ones he restores. So that's what makes him different than other huge car collector's and he drives his car's too.
You can tell he is appreciative equality workmanship and he explains it well
Cadillac was called "The Standard of the World" in the day because of the Dewer Award. Also I believe Cadillac was the first car to introduce the electric starter in about 1908.
I believe that was 1915 that Cadillac came out with the first electric starter.
Yes I believe you are correct. It was the beginning of the woman's movement because now they could start cars without a man.
Marshall Curtis I just checked Wikipedia and they cite 1912 as the year that it incorporated the electric starter.
Terri Bel Bliss Cadillac also was the first to have the pedal layout we have today!
Hi Jay, its been so much fun watching you and taking us to see so many cars that i can't even imagine existed. Thumbs up to you.
What a car! Yes, this is the car that really made Cadillac as a luxury, rather than upper medium priced, automobile. And I agree with that owner's manual - most problems on an American-made car really are the owner's fault. They refuse to change the oil and filter, they refuse to lube the chassis, they never check the oil in the differential and the manual transmission, they refuse to check the fluid in an automatic transmission, they refuse to tighten a loose fan belt, etc., then they blame the car when something finally fails.
This is a brilliant video. Thanks to Jay for letting us see his cars and talking so passionately about his collection. More like this please!
Seems like Jay is more passionate about a car the older it is.
+Jonathan Angel Like ALL SANE PEOPLE.They were different, for all tastes, some with innovative thngs like fatman wheel and that unfoldable screen, not plastic and electronic manure like today.
Well yes and no Jay is passionate about all his cars I think no matter the year. This is a very old one for instance but listen to his passion about his F1 McLaren some time! AND who wouldn't be LOL
Can't believe how quiet this one is. These very early cars are fascinating. They didn't have "standards" yet. One this car the window channels fols down. The lights have a mechanical dimmer. The engine temp guage is on the hood. All these quirky- to us- ways of doing things. It gave each car maker a distinct identity, not to be confused with another. There just were no hard and fast rules then.
wow, all original, old as hell, and runs like a top. thx jay for sharing. i think what i like about these old cars, is all the mechanical aspect, you were not just a accessory of your car, you were part of these machines, you had to work with it,give you a sense of pride owning a car, we do not get to experience that much these days. rock on.
Talk about awesome. I'm amazed that this 1918 Cadillac was all original for the most part. It's great that the 2 previous owners took great care of it and had it stored properly
Oh wow and she started right up no questions asked!
You're awesome Jay. Please keep doing what you're doing. This is one of my favorite channels.
Quite an advocate for history, thanks Jay for your contribution.
I have watched this presentation numerous times. I cannot get enough of this 1918 Cadillac. My favorite year is 1941, but I would never turn down that 1918. I am a great fan of Cadillac, unfortunately my wallet is not. But great show, I will watch it this episode over and over. Thanks again.
It really is the Rolls-Royce of automobiles.
Well, it's no more the Rolls Royce of automobiles than the Blackberry is the iPhone of smartphones.
Thank you Jay, for sharing these cars with us... without this show it's probably something we'd never be able to experience. I'm always so interested about how life was in the past... and your portrayal of this 1918 Cadillac really helps me to visualize how an owner of this car felt. An appreciation for the engineering and thought that went into making it. Really, just fantastic! :)
Thank you Jay. You help to make a passion for cars more enjoyable with your willingness to share your collection.
I’m glad jay shows his cars I really enjoy seeing them actually being used that’s amazing
$4,000.00 in 1918 had the same buying power as $69,058.39 in 2016
Annual inflation over this period was about 2.95%
Great video. What a beautiful car. Just something about the proportions, its stance, it’s a complete classic. Quintessentially American, with all the style of the 1920s. Great engineering and build quality too. What a superb advocate Jay Leno is for it!
Another great car and great video review from Jay Leno. Thanks for letting us see these cars in operation.
Don't forget to oil the headlight linkage, Jay! Haha what an amazing treasure of a fine motorcar. Thanks for sharing it with us!
This is about my favorite of Jay's cars. That is a true survivor. That is priceless I am very sure. 70 hp is impressive. Love flat head V8's.
Thanks Jay! Your videos are fantastic and historic!
I've been binge watching your show, Pandemic Edition, as were back on quarantine over here Jay. Although I haven't seen every episode, so far, this is my favorite one, that is after the Duesenberg. The Victoria is just in outstanding condition !! And my mind boggles at the thought that it cost $4,000 in 1918 !! Throw in the owners maual and it's one of the more humerous ventures into your incredible collection. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Stay safe. All the best.
Ok, the coolest thing on the car, was those windows, the way they open up, I loved that. And the fact that the interior felt like you were inside someone's living room of the period, fun video and car.
Charles Kettering knew what he was doing when he developed this motor, way ahead of it's time and still going.
Love old cars, and Jay Leno.
Thanks Mr. Leno for keeping this beauty alive!!!
Thank you for your generosity in sharing these wonderful vehicles and your passion for them. Your passion is contagious and the cars are fascinating.
$4K, in 1918 dollars would translate to $63K in 2014 dollars.
William Scott I'd buy the CTS-V for SURE, Cadillac really impressed me with that one, and of course the famous escalade has a special place in my heart lol.
Cadillac was the Rolls Royce of mass produced automobiles.
Thanks for these videos Jay I really enjoy watching them and learning stuff about cars and history. your a cool fella.
Thats the face of an autophile! You can just see in his face and the way he talks about this car how much he loves his cars. Especially old unrestored! Keep doing what your doing Jay!
"Cadillac, the Rolls Royce of automobiles" - Jay Leno's dad
I'm guessing that Jay got started as a comedian by stealing his dad's material. 😁
now thats a car. wow!! i am without words...thanks Jay incredible loved watchin this!! :))
He's says it's hard to convey what a pleasure it is to drive the car, but it's really clear from the tone of his voice and the ease of his manner.
Jay is in a league of his own when it comes to presenting cars... his factual knowledge, spiced up with anecdotes and background information makes his presentations both instructive and enjoyable...
Anybody notice the Santa sticker on the windshield
Is that a Santa Clause sticker on the bottom driver's side window?
Rocketninja200
putting funny stickers on things seems moronic to me and im not very fond of decals either... that being said if one was put there by accident why wouldnt you scrape it off!?
I will say that Jay Leno is probably one of the most knowledgeable men on the planet on various cars, mechanical knowledge of all the different early 1900's makes, models, differences, etc. He has an amazing memory and intensely studies various car makes in his spare time as a hobby. He is almost like a curator of a museum when it comes to cars, motorcycles, trucks, you name it. If it deals with precision machinery, Jay Leno has amazing knowledge of it. Pretty amazing stuff....
This is October 2020... This car is now 102 years old... WOW! I wonder how it’s doing. I would love to see it. Great episode Jay.
How uncouth! You took the 1918, Cadillac Victoria out on the road and did not even put flowers in the vases ;-) .
Cheers,
R.T. Thomes (Amsterdam, The Netherlands)
youtube gold
Thank you. Just seeing you drive it made me feel better. Thanks
the 1912 Cadillac was the world's first modern car. Electric start and lights. Always a great video from Jay. Thanks for posting.
it has built in vases
Did anyone else see the Santa sticker in the bottom corner of the windshield
Jay must REALLY love the McLaren F1... he can't make an episode without mentioning it! Every car is compared to it, or it's referenced in some way in just about every single episode.
How you remember all the little intricacies of what all the knobs and buttons and pumps do is impressive Mr, Leno.
Jay, "This was the kind of car you'd drive around and collect the rent in ya know?"
I immediately visualized the Monopoly guy.
