Forget keyword stuffing and tiny white font - when you understand how RECRUITERS read and understand job descriptions, you'll better understand how they read your RESUMES too!
Grab a highlighter and settle in!

This was an AMAZING video. Concise and very informative. Thank you!
So happy you said "skipped past the 'Who We Are' section" -- I've been feeling guilty for doing that and am glad to know that's what others are doing as well!
NO BS coming from Mrs. Miller. It helps you figure out whether youâre qualified for the role and how to tailor your cover letter and resume to beat the applicant tracking systems (ATS).
Yes! Amy - this is perfection! :)
Just explored your LinkedIn profile after someone mentioned you on a LinkedIn post. Watched the 3rd youtube video. Subscribed. Easy. I like the energy you give off very much. I think you teach/explain very well.
@@MelodySaleh thank you!đ
thank you for this deep explanation. this is a video that I am going to revisit every time I am modifying my resume.
Thank you, Amy! This is great stuff!!
This is really helpful Amy! Thank you for sharing :)
I have a BS in CS and a BBA in Finance and 8+ years in IT/Tech, Amy! If I lived in Washington, I may have applied for that job you're describing. đ You need to be a U.S. Citizen to work for any defense company through the feds contracts.
Thank you, Amy! You not only explained what to look for but also gave insight and context to our resume!
great info on how to differentiate the sections - BTW - Love the wallpaper Amy!! I've got those same earrings; love them!
Very helpful video. It's helpful to understand the recruiters perspective.
Where have you been all my life! LOL - I appreciate your sense of humor and taste in music! Thanks for the great information. I appreciate the concise information and your perspectives.
BTW as far as your reference to 'Flames on the Side of My Face' - Madeline Kahn is from "Clue"
Thank you very much
Thanks for sharing. I have tried to keep my resume generalized. I will tailor very specifically for top companies I am pursuing.
đ€every time your intro plays!
As a compensation SME, I get it, Amy. Keep doing what you're doing!
Great job Amy!
Thank you so much!
This video was phenomenal. Learned something new.
Iâm so glad!!
Damn! The first part of daily responsibilities was very insightful. Thanks for putting this up! :))
Early in my career I over used the word "synergy" to highlight that I was team player. đ
I sounded like a great strategy at the time.
AWESOME video!!! I have 2 lingering questions.
1. How do you handle job statements such as "Strong organizational, project management, problem-solving, and analytical skills" or "Self-directed and highly motivated" on a resume? Or do you leave that off and hope for a phone screening to flush it out?
2. If citizenship is asked on all the applications/ATS, is it still necessary to include the words on a resume and where/how?
If citizenship is a knockout question youâre good I would not worry about it.
I wouldnât worry about those words in the JD - resumes are for hard skills, interviews are for soft skills. Iâll do a follow up video next week đ
Thanks so much. It's been confusing when the JD goes on and on about preferences.@@AmyMiller
It's great to hear that what I did while applying for the last job is literally what you said I would do in this video. Thank you, Mrs. Miller, for confirming the information, I really appreciate that.
But the thing I can't understand is that if there are several people who have 100% of the job requirements and you can't communicate with all of them. On what basis you choose the people you communicate with first and who should wait?... Because a month and a half has passed and still my application status is "submitted".
This one might help - czcams.com/video/QEUimQsnUpI/video.htmlsi=wGUiMSS1n57kywzJ
@@AmyMiller Thank you ma'am
đI feel your pain. đ€Ł
What do you think about ignoring a BS/BA requirement for non-STEM positions? I get that the degree is totally necessary in something like EE - that would be scary to have someone designing circuits without formal training.
But in my world (RevOps), a lot of hiring managers find experience more important. Theyâll still put the degree in the JD, but often itâs not a true requirement. Iâve asked a lot of them and only a few are strict about it. Anecdotal I know, but itâs what Iâve found. Curious if youâve had a different experience.
As someone without a degree myself I push HARD for âor equivalent experienceâ as a loophole to remain compliant đ
Wow, this was super helpful! I was focused on using Chat GPT to highlight the keywords and phrases for me to integrate into my resume but this method is much less time exhaustive. What is your approach on catering your career summary and core competencies to the job posting? Thank you, Amy. I feel much more informed.
I actually have a video on summary vs objective! I like a good summary myself đ
What goes through your mind when you have a person apply for multiple roles at the same time that you are hiring for, but the applicant possesses 80%+ qualifications for both roles? Does that show lack of career focus, or is it more of a compliment to the company?
I assume theyâre genuinely interested in the company đ I have a video on this topic too - czcams.com/video/J10GLJ1QYl4/video.htmlsi=PoZnlpefcMqnVFwT
@@AmyMiller Thanks, I'll check that out!
