I miss training so much. Maia and Alves are monsters..
me too. i miss rolling... but when bill gates has his super duper mega vaccine that is testet on rhesus apes... then we all can jump on clouds and play again...
@osocat why ten years?4
@osocat i hope so! vaccines are the work of devil.
@osocat if you listen carefully what bill has to say you will recognise, that there will be no normal till the vaccine is there... dont believe me... gates interview with stephen colbert... one example
@osocat you read the article about judoka training with these masks ? :-D
0:35 - DLR sweep
1:00 - SLX sweep
1:30 - DLR sweep
2:20 - scramble
3:00 - back take attempt
3:40 - scramble
5:30 - DLR sweep
5:35 - toreando variation pass
6:20 - sit up sweep
Maia’s guard retention and recovery were so instinctive, and Alve’s was attacking greatly. It was new school vs old school, youth and hunger vs maturity and experience. Great video very patient and entertaining. Thank you Flograpping.
I much prefer Maia’s style.
@@curtmastor old school style is more functional for older guys, i think the New school style guys will loose a lot of their capacity when they got older. Because demands a lot of their bodies
Old school vs new school ..love it
Chris Franco it was great. The new school guy had terrific sweep setups. And old school works no gi 😃
Awesome sweeps, sit up guard, crab ride, leg drag, guard retention. So much going on.
Loved this round.
And the gym looks pretty sweet.
Gym does look sweet but almost no room. I know it may look big but u can only have 2 to 3 pairs per blue mat from what it looks like. Anything more then everyone will be rolling into eachother left and right. I know I hated when I'd be rolling and catch an ankle to the face from someone I'm not even grappling with.
@@aurevoirshoshanna900 what gym is it?
@@aurevoirshoshanna900spider Korea and there is so big
Maia bringing that old-school game!
I guess this is a good example of what Ryan hall was talking about in an interview about how coming up on a single leg and not being terrible at it can be better than using complex sweeps to get the same job done. (yes I know Maia is much bigger and stronger).
Michael Laviola I’ve always said that lapel guard was for people that train too much and are bored with the fundamentals
Maia's game has always involved single leg guard and single leg X.
Actually, Maia isn't really bigger. Jonatha competes at 168lb and Maia at 170lb. The biggest difference is that Maia is twice the age of Jonatha.
@@sylvainfrenchsvp5018 maia originally competed at 185. He cuts a good amount to make 170
@@itsaccer7443 Maia was a "185er" the same way Machida was a "205er": without cutting weight. Maia's not a a big welterweight, which is why he still manages the cut even now, at 43 years old.
I love to watch Maia roll. Flow, Zen and Intelligence.
And so strong he makes you feel like a prison bitch 😂
No roids Just pure technique. This is what real Jiu jitsu is about 👌
1fastmex would argue about that sir
Porrada Everyday I genuinely believe that Maia was a clean fighter. There’s no indication whatsoever that points to him juicing and probably explains his longevity unlike other Brazilian grapplers. Alves is clearly in something tho lol
anonymous That’s Miyao... I’m talking about Damien MAIA!
That is some really great jiu jitsu. I learned a lot from that roll. Thanks FloGrappling.
It's very cool to see Demian training with gi... he was definitely one of the best!
Love seeing the wheels turn during the match. Just started training, and I’m just now learning that you don’t have to always dive in and scramble most of the round.
Please Flograppling more sparrings like those !!
The guy in the white gi is pretty good, he should try MMA someday
He should.
I dont know. Can he stop lapel sweeps in the cage?
He should try be a UFC submissions recordist too
Hahahahah well played
@@spartacussilva4861 surprisingly maia is tied at #3 for most sub in UFC, tied with royce. Charles oliveria and nate hold 1 and 2 spot with 13 for oli and 12 for nate. Not saying whose bjj is better but im surprised maia isn't the #1 most sub on the roster.
I've watched this video like 5 times, so much to learn from this one roll
awesome roll. love maia playing that single leg x and wrestling to single leg takedowns. Alves' sweeps came from inverted position which can look pretty cool. you definitely see the difference in styles and they both work well. two thumbs up
Wow demian maia putting that old school , invisible jiu jitsu to work very awesome roll
Damian Maia is history of bjj
That was an entertaining roll to watch. Patience and high skill level were on display.
@1:00 must try that cupping of the heel with the far hand in the slx, never seen that before!
so sick
DDaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmm
Malone Freeman hashi garami and turn outside If I’m not mistaken
@@NelsonDuarte99 nothing special about that, Ive been doing ashi garami for 10 years, but never seen anyone do like Demian did here, where he grabbed with the far hand the ashi ankle and proped up with the near side elbow.
Malone Freeman I guess grabbing with the far hand gives more twist to it but I’m no expert. Fun fact i learned this sweep in my first bjj class ever and I felt in love with bjj since then, been doing it for a month only and corona happened before but I study it every day at least 2h
Great display of Demian's game still working on the new generation.
Super fun roll to watch. So much skill, it’s crazy that the whole round neither of them really got into a dominant position. Just shows how technical they both are.
DM couldn’t stop that sweep - great roll
Maias refined technique a pleasure to watch !
Treino muito técnico....muito bom!
Great roll aweful music.
Great facility and awesome Jiu-Jitsu!!
Great video!
God, I miss rolling and training so much it hurts. In August my gym might open again with the same schedule as usual. Fingers crossed.
I hope you are able to roll in your gym and when your gym opens back up that it is safe
glad you guys are posting somewhat free content more or less these days lol
The flow is so smooth that it almost seem like they are dancing, not a single movement is wasted. They are able to recognize the weakness in the move and counter almost instantly. This is no longer a fight it is an artistic expression of styles trying to show their dominance on each other by calculated force and execution.
The technical control from both of these dudes is just out of this world. 😮
Maia is just insane
GOAT 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽
Khamsat will eat him alive though....please don't take the fight Maia.

Very different styles of sweeping, but it was pretty evenly matched.
Alvez being nice to his elders! I like it
I miss training so much, hope i did't forgot anything
i wanna roll with the great Demian Maia
Love old school BJJ. DONT FORGET ABOUT THE ROOTs.
I could watch them forever
Demian era brabo demais na época q competia bjj
Osss smooth high level flow . Don't get it twisted mistakes are unforgiving at that high level. Very inspiratiol and educational rolling from two masters of BJJ osss. ✌🏿
O melhor de todos. Grande Demian Mais. Osssss
Wish Gui had his gi on. Would’ve loved to see him and Maia roll even if lightly due to the weight class difference
Meu irmão os caras fazem parecer fácil... Muita técnica e aos olhos pouquíssima força...
Rapaz os caras são forte pra caramba tbm kkkk...
Que isso mano? Outro nível vendo esses caras.
Maia's jiu jitsu is universal
@6:01 - imagine being the purple belt who kicks 4th Stripe Black Belt Demian Maia in the head during a roll...
I wouldn't wash my foot for the rest of the year
I heard that foot is now impervious to attack. Heel hooks. Footlocks. Toe Holds. All useless. You know, like a Miyao.
My coach said
When rolling on the Mats you should respect the higher belts and move away and let them continue rolling if you bump into them, but sometimes the roll is to good and you just move away and let the lower belt have fun with their partner
Oss
Beautiful movement
lindo demais ver demianzinho velha guarda rolando, old school vs new school
Nice, a very calm Maia.
Aula de raspagens 👍🏻👊🏻💪🏻🥋
I never realized how badly I love this sport.
Try falling in love with the actual martial art
Nice 👏🏼
Love the sweep at 1.00
Assistindo a esse treino do Demian, a conclusão a que chego é que a solução pra todos os problemas é a boa e velha fuga de quadril.
Jonatan lutou com 30% no máximo do que ele realmente luta
Tha, was a great roll
Tio Damian é é foda👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Quem viu a lita de maia e jacaré sabe q o maia não esta nem perto de lutar sério...um monstro👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
damn I miss Jiu Jitsu so much
Demian maia monstro! 👊🏼
Muito bom!
Sick
Demian muito forte pqp
Sweet
That lapel guarde is so tough ti deal with.
The sequence from 2:00 to 2:30 is golden
I’m exhausted just from watching 😅
Old school will always do well against new school specially with fighting
high level
Maia still has it osss
Just love this video. Trap music and BJJ flow rolling 🔥
Track list:
1. Savours Road - Anderson Paak
2. After that - Future
3. Go to Mars - PnB Rock
GUI chilling
Makes me want to see Demian run through some cats at Masters Worlds.
Unbelievable
piece of cake for Maia
The lack of awareness of those around them is doing my head in
Simons Sol right? On the other hand, Maia moving away from them when they get too close just goes to show how humble the legend is!
@@Rsdawg5519 He truly is.
Right im glued to it just watching it. Maybe the guys in the gym are used to seeing Maia roll or something. I know that if I saw Maia walk into my gym I'd be taking as many mental notes as possible
I am a Muay Thai addict and i have absolutely no idea about BJJ..
However, what i am witnessing in this video seems beautiful and interesting..
Is this roll a good representative of what hight level bjj looks like in general? Can you please suggest me some good artists/athletes/match ups??
Muay Thai is great my friend.
You like bjj? That's nice!
Yes, this is a perfect example of high level flow roll (that is, not 100 % intensity) of beautiful players in ghe gi.
There are plenty of beautiful fights gi/no gi, what do you prefer?
@@dimitrissrv3453 Geia sou Dimitri!
I do want to answer you but i have no idea what "ghe gi" or "gi" is lol..
As i said i'm all about Muay Thai.. i know almost zero bjj terminology..
@@rawbbingmysellph7464 hehe, my bad my friend. Let's say that Gi jiu jitsu is the aspect of Brazilian jiu-jitsu with the Gi ( the kimono) and no- gi jiu jitsu is with rashguards. There are of course similarities and athletes that are good in both styles, but there are also plenty of differences and athletes that specialise in one style, for example Gordon Ryan, the hot name now, and one of the best to ever do it, is a no-gi specialist.
Name someone more complete in every aspect of bjj. Gi, no-gi and mma.
Cort Harper not to mention a super cool dude and great representative of bjj
Roger Gracie, Jacare Souza, Ricardo Arona, BJ Penn, Rickson Gracie, Kron Gracie, Shinya Aoki, Paulo Filho, GSP, Fabio Gurgel, Mario Sperry, Andre Galvao to name a few.
@@Darren_Tay while your list is basically fully correct. He did, however, say MMA, so gotta take Galvao out of that list. And definitely GSP's bjj game isn't what maia's is gi or nogi. Kron's MMA isn't where Maia's is. BJ hasn't done much in BJJ since wayyyyyyyyy back in the day.
@@wildcat31772 Galvao fought in mma with the likes of Tyron Woodley and Jorge Patino, why should we discredit him? While I do agree that GSP's bjj level isn't the same as Maia, I think you also don't give him enough credit. Watch his roll in gi with Roger Gracie and Braulio Estima, he even submitted Braulio. You can't say that it is not high level. Kron won 3rd in ADCC 2011 losing to legendary Marcelo Garcia and got gold in 2013. He got 2nd place in IBJJF worlds and if you look at his record, in ADCC, he submitted JT Torres, Garry Tonon, Otavio Souza, Murilo Santana and in the gi he submitted Jake Mackenzie, Ricardo Evangelista, Claudio Calasans and Leandro Lo just to name a few. That's not good enough for you? Kron is still a new mma fighter obviously he doesn't have much fight, but he already fighting veterans of the sport and doing quite well. The argument here is how complete they are in every aspect of bjj. What GSP did in the octagon and what Galvao and Kron achieved in competitive bjj certainly makes them qualified for comparison against Maia.
@@Darren_Tay if you truly think Roger was going 100% against GSP (who was going 100%) that's some level of delusion. Roger was letting gsp work much like he lets a blue belt work - so they learn something from it. Same with Braulio. I never discredited his jiu jitsu abilities either. It's just not a defining part of his game; it never has been, especially when he fought regularly in the UFC. Galvao got killed by Tyron, the rest of his fights were against nobodies. His literally comment is best gi, no gi, and MMA. Kron is phenomenal at jiu jitsu, trust i've followed him a long time. But he's not a complete MMA fighter regardless of his newness at it. Galvao sure as shit isn't just cuz he went 5-2 with 5 wins against nobodies and his ass handed to him against a real fighter. So in terms of Gi, no gi, AND MMA. I stand by what i said.
So fun to watch the chess match....
Damian Maia is probably like... Wtf I haven't seen a berimbolo since i started MMA.
sweep. sweep
sweep. sweep

What a cool as jiu jitsu gym where’s this anyone know

Demi simplismente de mais
The music vibe the WiFi and the TV are making everyone weak... other than that nice footage!
Never knew the name of that sweep that Maia hits at 0:56 seconds? Anybody? Thanks
Just a basic sweep from One Leg guard
That’s top level Art. No need to add the word martial.
Beautiful bjj
Dude! You just kicked Damien Maia in the head!
It’s like learning a second language. I’m able to read what they’re doing, I’m able to read the set ups, but I couldn’t “speak” the language like they do.
That is the perfect way to explain my perspective as well. Thank you!
Impressive how smoothly Jonatha Sweeps Demian, 40lb heavier...
Old schools will often concede sweeps. They dont have the points mentality.
What the hell? Jonatha competes at 168lb. Maia competes at 170lb. Maia might be a little bit heavier, but he is also twice the age of Jonatha!
Who’s gym is this
Somewhere in Korea. Spyder invitational
Gui Mendes back there

I wouldn't mind to be that blue belt @ 3:15 causally sitting and watching Maia roll.
i wouldn't be able to train there just due to the music... love watching maia roll.
Whats with the catwalk modeling video in the background?
