Ok, so I get why some parents feel the need for a nanny cam when they get a nanny or a babysitter. But these two basically threw out their excuse for the nanny cam by using it to spy on a teenager in the bathroom - that's exactly the reason why some people feel the need for a nanny-cam.

The comment the dad says about the pornography really makes this a bit dark when you add the fact that he's filming the living room. It was the early 2000's and porn wasn't easy to come by without the internet, it's almost inevitable that at some point the parents would end up filming something they shouldn't be.
When I was growing up they used to film this show all around my neighborhood especially the park i used to play at "Sherman Oaks Park"

I think they have the right to set up cameras in their own home. It would've been common courtesy to tell Malcolm first. Also maybe they shouldn't have saved and labeled every single minor infraction. Thats creepy. I would've kept babysitting for them because the money was good. Just as long as I don't find a camera in the bathroom.
Yeah - they're making a big deal over him using "their" bathroom is bad enough but the fact that they're filming him going to the bathroom? What's their problem against him anyhow? Is it because he's young? Because he's working class? In any case they should've told him about the nanny cam and shouldn't have acted like they genuinely liked him or said that he was "part of the family".
It's simply they wouldn't trust him to do it right.
So if your boss at work films you the entire time to monitor you behavior and how often you go to the bathroom it would also be ok for you? I mean its their building. And government installing cameras in public places? Where does it stop for you?
@@Jakob3xD obviously the line would be to not have cameras in places you don't live in or own. It's perfectly legal to place anywhere on your own property except for places where one would reasonably expect privacy, such as a restroom or changing area.

I remember the house we lived in 🤣🤣🤣 The son of the landlord installed security cameras in every corner of the house. Good thing we move and now their cameras have no use.
I stayed in the "in-law" apartment unit at my company owner's place one summer... I was a bit surprised at one point when he asked me to take a look at their security dvr (I was IT for his company) for some issue I no long recall and noticed the monitor showed there were several hidden cameras in the apartment I was staying in....

The thing I like about this episode is it taught Malcolm not to blindly trust people and that people with money viewed him either as a charity case or a savage.
Amazing how Malcom didn't blackmail the couple for more money? He could of gotten thousands, turned himself over to the state and would of been adopted by a good family!

The irony of having a tape labeled Malcolm used our bathroom is they think they can use that against Malcolm but filming an underaged Babysitter in the bathroom can actually be used against them if Malcolm called the Police.
I get they would want a reasonable amount of surveillance for liability/insurance/proof of wrongdoing. However, the nature of the labels on the tapes show the couple are just petty control freaks.
and why keep the tapes? If they have proof he didn't do anything wrong, then why not just rewind them and use them again for the next time he babysits? why hold onto tapes about stuff like him not using a coaster or having extra slices of bologna if there's no evidence that he did any damage to the house, stole anything or harmed their children or their pets in anyway?

Is anyone else reminded of a later episode where Malcolm announces everyone's embarrassing secrets over the school P.A. system, and Reece identifies one kid as "Dad had a nervous breakdown because Mom went lesbian"? (Then again, those kids don't look that much younger than Malcolm, so maybe it's one of the same kids.)

The filming itself isn’t so bad it’s smart to film babysitters just don’t make tapes out of it and label them. So nowadays everything is digital.
I can get nanny-cams. It's best to tell a babysitter there's security cameras around to make things as safe as you can for your kids.
But these freaks were spying on Malcolm. Like, filming Malcolm without his consent and making tapes. A little preteen boy. So creepy.
