    One reviewer noted these did not feel totally comfortable to walk around in, right out of the box, but once you start running in them, they are great. I noticed the same thing. I walked around in them for a few hours, off and on in my place, right out of the box. The cushining or design seemed to put a little too much pressure into the midfoot. However, they still felt really cushioned, so it was totally tolerable. Just a few hours later, I trusted them enough to go on a 6-mile run. I would normally take a longer breaking-in approach, but I just trusted them. Outside of minor niggling pressure put on my knees, I was hooked. Ran with them again, two times, the next day and they felt totally great. Walking around in them 3 days later, they feel great. They feel true to size and the higher backs were not issues. Pretty sure they are the most technologically advanced shoes (PEBA-EVA Midsole and Carbon Plate) for trail running at the $250 price point right now.

    I read another reviewers post who had the same issue and cut the wings off with an exacto knife and solved the issue. Not ideal for the $ paid for this shoe but if you already have a pair it might be an option

    • @runfreeultra
      @runfreeultra  Před 7 měsíci +1

      Yeah that could work, but as you said not ideal for a shoe of this price! I sent mine back for a refund, plenty of other shoes on the market to use until TNF change this design (sadly it's the same midsole/plate for V2)

    I thought the carbon wings would be a problem but wearing thicker ininji socks seemed to keep any issues at bay. I sized down half a size. Ran out of box 11 miles on semi- tech terrian. Following weekend ran almost 19 /5500 elevation gain in the Boulder hills and they worked great. I’d say the downside for me was the power hiking and scrambling up steep rocky steps. Midsole is too soft and felt like I was working harder than I should have.

      @runfreeultra  Před 10 měsíci

      That's awesome Tom, it's such a fun shoe for eating up the miles! Interesting about the soft midsole for hiking, I wonder if it will improve as it compresses?

    I have almost spot on the same feedback as you! Sadly... I wa so excited about this shoe. Midsole felt so responsive, springy, I felt like flying in this shoe, at least for the fist 10k.... I took them out for 4x10min intervals on rolling, pretty much flat trails and for the first 10k they were amazing, I was already had them on my feet when dreaming about my next 100k race in June but then those carbon wings started to rub on the lateral side of my right foot. Damn it. I was so excited about this shoe and what now, should I keep it on the shelf as a 250 EUR trophy? With warm up, coold won and intervals my workout was 19k and after taking off the shoe, I had a blister on my pinky finger. Just around the size of that stupid carbon wing. I'm actually not only disappointed but angry. How this shoe went through testing?! Did athletes who tested it didn't have that issue or they have those wings removed? I don't get it and it's unforgivable for a 250 EUR top model racing shoe. Now I am scared to wear it for 10k run not talking about 50 or 100km races. And the worst things is that you can't do anything about it. Okay, I will tape all of those spots where you have those wings but I doubt that it will help for ultra distance races or long training runs.
    I think that wings aren't directly rubbing the skin but those wings are pushing in the upper into the skin and since the upper material is plasticky and abresive, it results in blisters. I don't know how on earth Katie Schide won UTMB in the prototype of this shoe.
    I really want this shoe to work, I really like everything about it except that rubbing. :(

      @runfreeultra  Před rokem +1

      Yes it's such a shame as it's otherwise a great shoe! I sent mine back for a refund, no point keeping them if they don't work for you.

    • @vicsim
      @vicsim Před rokem +1

      I read somewhere her shoes were prototype without the carbon wings. I had the same issue and it feels better if you wear double socks to give some more cushion. But agree this should not happen at all on shoes of this price point. This is not acceptable

    • @runfreeultra
      @runfreeultra  Před rokem +1

      I normally wear UK 9, I would suggest going down 1/2 size in North Face shoes. I've just received the Summit Vectiv Sky in 8.5 which are a much better fit 👍

      @@runfreeultra sorry to jump in! I was really interested in the sizing. I'm usually a 9.5/10UK in most trail shoes, and I bought a pair of the new Vectiv Infinites that where huge. I reordered a 9UK, which fit perfectly (but not right got me). Do these size the same as the new Infinite do you know?

    With the potential downsides, what do you recommend for a trail ultra shoe with some nice cushioning?

    • @runfreeultra
      @runfreeultra  Před 11 měsíci +1

      So many options! Most brands offer a high cush trail shoe in their range, popular choices are Hoka (speedgoat, tecton X, mafate) Asics, Salomon (genesis, pulsar trail pro) Saucony, Altra for zero drop etc It's important to try different brands to see which feels best to you and fits with your budget. Good luck!

      I personally think this shoe offers a better ride and more cushioning than the SG 5. Grip is similar though not as durable. Thanks for the comment!

      Thanks James! It's hard to say, I do pronate so my foot rolls inward. If you have good biomechanics then it may not be an issue? I'd certainly try a pair out first before buying. Good luck 🙏

    How does the sizing compare to the old flight vectivs? Should I size down a 1/2?

    @runfreeultra @runfree Very good and honest review 👊!
    I ordered these shoes yesterday and was not sure my size 🤔. I ordered 42,5 EU (8,5 UK, 9,5 US). My foot is 27,5 cm (From heel to big toe, I have measured it by myself)
    You said you have size 8 (UK, I quess). Can you tell me what is your foot size (centimeters. From heel to big toe)?
    Just because you said that maybe it is better order half size smaller.. if so I will make second order and return wrong size 😅.. Just because it takes too much time to get new if first one is wrong size..
    I appreciate if you can answer 👍.
