    Indeed I did put the strap on upside down. My mistake, although I don't normally use leather straps on my watches, I'm a little disappointed that I didn't realize that sooner. Especially since I put the nato straps on properly. Oh well, at least it still serves the purpose of showing what the leather strap looks like on the watch (as well as my incompetence 😅), allowing you to see the materials, colours and textures together.

    The bezel removal tool is in fact a case back removal tool. Used for non screw-on casebacks while the yellow bezel removal tool is exactly that. You'll need both if you want to repair eBay watches.

    i have about 30+ watches. Some are in various states of disassembly. All cheap watches. My interest in each one is kept alive by the next refinement like changing to a better crystal, etc. I had an itchy trigger finger for buying watches. So now it's mainly watch parts. Then after reassembly I wear each one for a few days or weeks.

    I was going to buy a kit a couple months ago when I became a watchmaker, but I decided to keep watching CZcams watchmakers and building my skill (😮). A couple days ago I went on eBay and bought my own watch components, all custom-picked by me, so I made my own kit: NH36A day/date crown at 3.8 O'clock, hands, dial, and stainless case/bracelet combo. All that fire for under $100 with shipping! Now I just need to wait for my parts and hope I don't screw anything up during the build. I'm glad there are videos about kits, tho, or I wouldn't have had the idea to make my own kit. Thanks for the vid ❤it!

    The best and safest case opener will always be a rubber ball.
    The bergeon one costs 10 €, however I have an generic one that opened EVERY case for me!
    Metal openers can slip and create deep scratches.

      I was wondering. I understand your point of view but at the same time it is steel (at least looks like it, need verification) case, saphire crystal, with NH35A movement. In it self yes, you can find those parts and asemble them together for like 100 $? On the other hand it seems like Seiko sells simillar in material quality watches for over 300$. You can find movements like that in 450$ watches. Not saying it is worth the money but this is the reality. Also not saying Namoki is not 60-100$ watch but in fact most of 300$ watches are not 300$ watches either :D Won't argue about toolkit ^^. What do you think?

Figured cant afford that again so ill build a few of my own rough duty GMTs. Bought a similar kit and yes your right the three pronged back removing fantanglement is junk but will be getting a movement support and one of those air puffing hamsters.

    This was a fun watch (video view). Good pace and entertaining. The actual watch and NamokiMods looked very nice and turned out fantastic. I liked both dial choices but the Seiko dial won out - I prefer the grey to the black. Good suggestions on the tool kit mods. No need for the screwdrivers in the process you went through, but I'd like to check their quality since I plan to do a full service on the movements. Also I'd like to see some lubrication on the winding stem. Good oils and greases are very expensive.

  • @endy_fx
    @endy_fx Před rokem +2

    Honestly I'm impressed. The kit looks really good, full of decent tools, pretty much all the stuff you'd need to start the hobby. Hopefully they're of reasonable quality and will last.
    I love the Namoki dial, that textured surface is stunning, and I think I would have liked the stylised Namoki N to have been more prominent if anything, nothing too outrageous, maybe just in white rather than reflective metallic.
    There's not much to say on the movement, it's an NH35. It'd be interesting to get it on a timegrapher, some of the timekeeping tolerances on the NH35 have been known to be...generous. That leads me to the one part I wasn't a fan of, the caseback. I get that a custom back raises costs, and the whole thing (tools included) looks like a great price. Likewise a display back means seeing just-another-NH35, so Namoki would have needed to customise the rotor at least, again raising cost. The black low-profile back just feels like a halfway measure though. I think I'd have preferred plain steel, especially if the PVD gets scratched in future. All in all though, good stuff Namoki!

    I enjoyed the video and am tempted to buy one of those watch kits but - two questions:
    1. Since I have nearly all of the tools and materials included in the kit, is it possible to buy the watch kit without the tool kit?
    2. Where did you source the Seiko dial? Has it been taken from a Seiko watch or bought separately? It looks to be a nice grey-metalic colour.? - I think that's 4 questions!!

    • @ItsAnotherWatch

      Namoki said they plan to sell the parts separate from the tool kit, but I'm not sure when that will be. As for the dial, I got it on AliExpress, you can find OEM dials on there from time to time since they show up in batches. Its just a matter of doing some searching. However, you can also get OEM dials like that one from other sellers like Tokeilab and Weezmods.

      That's fantastic, God speed with your first build! You want to make sure that the hour hand leaves a tiny bit of clearance above the hour markers so that it's not conflicting with them in any way, that should be a good indicator for how far to press the hands on, because then you're just looking for enough spacing between them to ensure the hands don't conflict with each other either.

    Hello Dan, I love your videos they are very inspiring. Regarding the Namoki dial-logo I would like to ask if that can be easily removed. Evidently, it is also possible to buy glue-on Seiko-dial-logos (in steel, gold, black and white) certain places e.g. ebay. It might be worth a try to see how that looks like, especially with the dial from this video or the white or red version of it.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před rokem +2

      You can get the stick on logos, sometimes they pop up on eBay and sellers on aliExpress like "dial maker watch store" have them if you message them.
      As for removing the namoki logo, I think its likely that you can, I can't say for certain since I haven't tried to. BUT, look at this video here: czcams.com/video/5zByOaU_osQ/video.html
      I removed an adhered logo from a Heimdallr dial without issue. I've also done this on another sunburst dial with no problems. So I think its probable that this will work for the namoki dials too.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před rokem +1

      I'd say either eBay or AliExpress if you're looking generally. I know that NamokiMods has some 42MM cases as well. Their MM300 SKX case is a 42mm for example.
      I'll be honest, when I look for parts I tend to look for what is compatible with each other (like case, movement, hands) and then find a style I want and go from there. Its why I stick to Seiko modding/builds since they usually revolve around the NH or 4R movements and 28.5mm dials. It means that as long as I know the case fits the NH movement, I only have to worry about if a chapter ring is needed or not, regardless of what size the outside of the case ends up being. Then if the case itself isn't per-assembled I would look up the name of the style of case or check the product listing for where I'm getting the case from to see what diameters that case requires for bezels, crystals, crowns, casebacks, chapter rings and bracelets and then search for those including the diameter in the search.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před 9 měsíci

      Depends on which kit you buy. I think if you built a dressier watch you might not want to wear it for sports stuff to keep it from getting scuffed up. But i'd say they would be fine for the shower or even some light swimming, since the casebacks are rated on the listing as "10ATM" which, if im not mistaken, is 100m. And given the caseback and crown gaskets I think they would hold up. I just wouldn't take them diving unless its listed as being 200M water resistant.

    • @ItsAnotherWatch
      @ItsAnotherWatch  Před rokem

      Tokei Labs: tokeilab.com/collections/oem-dials
      WEEZMODS: weezmods.com/en-gb/collections/dials
      Watch parts plaza: www.watchplaza.com/ < this is another good place to search for OEM dials and other OEM parts.
      OEM dials can pop up on AliExpress too, but those links are a good place to start.

    Are these "genuine" parts?
    Example: if you buy a Rolex Submariner kit, and put it together, is it a genuine Rolex Submariner?
    I understand that it wouldn't have paperwork that it was built by Rolex, and therefore wouldn't have the resale value, but otherwise, would it still be a genuine Rolex?
    Edit: There seems to be some confusion about my question, and that's possibly due to how I worded it.
    The question is: Are the parts in a "Rolex Submariner Kit" Genuine Rolex Submariner parts?
    Because if not, it's obviously not a genuine Rolex Submariner.

      If you buy all the parts to build a Ford F-250 and assemble it yourself, it would only be a Genuine Ford F-250 if you bought all genuine Ford parts.
      If you bought all aftermarket parts, it would not be a genuine Ford F-250, it would be a reproduction.
      So that is my question about the Rolex kits. Are they genuine Rolex parts, or are they aftermarket parts?
      My guess is that they are all aftermarket parts, which would obviously mean it's a fake Rolex.

      It has nothing to do with the assembly/ disassembly, it's the parts that are in question.
      You can't build a Rolex without genuine Rolex parts.
