I know it’s not cool in the Metal Elitist world to say that you like Pantera, but Pantera is one of my favorite Metal bands of all time! Period! I’ve been listening to them since I was 13 and I’m 42! My favorite metal genre is traditional old school Death Metal, but I listen to a lot of Thrash and other Metal genres as well! I also like a lot of Classic Rock and other shit as well! I guess I’m not a true tough guy!
Pantera are sort of on the verge of being cancelled, mostly because (years ago) Phil Anselmo got drunk and said some "questionable" stuff on stage and threw in a couple "salutes" that most people would be offended by. I think it's pretty hilarious, I mean who REALLY cares what that dude does?

I'm 41, and been playing in metal bands since I was in highschool. I got passed the Slipknot tape by the same person that passed me the mortal decay tape. He loves Slipknot and still does. I on the other hand am not into them. I appreciate some of the experimentation they put out there, and a rising tide lifts all boats, but let's be real, Slipknot is the new Kiss. Shitty band exploiting autistic fans with unlimited merch. The best thing they have done is expand the platform, that's all.

He said he was influenced by Immolation when writing for Iowa. He uses a lot of pinch harmonics on that record and there's a kind of Immolation-y riff on one of the songs but I think that's as far as it goes

Phil Anselmo was the only actual metal fan in that band, it's very obvious. Dimebag and Vinnie Paul were way more into glam shit and southern rock, and Pantera only got even somewhat decent when Phil joined. that's very hard for some people to hear but it's true, Pantera wouldn't be worth 2 fucks without his influence.

I'm almost 50 and I know a lot of older guys that should know better that love Slipknot, Pantera, Chimera, etc. My cousin turned me onto countless bands as a little kid (Ozzy, Sabbath, Maiden, Priest, Twisted Sister, Dio, etc) and as a teenager one summer in 87' he played me Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax, Death, Dark Angel, Death Angel, SOD, Cryptic Slaughter, Metal Church, etc. He also played me a second generation dub of his friend's band Malevolent Creation back when they were a thrash band. Yeah, dude likes Chimara, but I have Also witnessed him listening to bands like Devastation(Texas) and Incubus (Opprobrium) cranked up on repeat

Being a ethnic guy into metal. Music as a whole I’ve learned to seperate the art from the artist. There are several bands with people whom I don’t agree with on a lot of shit lyrically and personally. Pantera I do like a fair amount of tracks and own some merch for but I can’t control someone’s view. Just fuck it and enjoy the tunes.

Down is 3x better than Pantera, that first album is fire.. despite what anyone says lol. With the new "Pantera" the best part is Charlie. I mean this guy wrote nearly every iconic Anthrax riff along with being the most technical drummer of the "big 4" I think he should be seen as top 3 metal musicians of all time. Is what it is

@@Nazar1ne Trendkill had a darkness to it that Phil got across pretty well. Reinventing was more of a stadium tour album, kinda their "Van Halen " album. I will say the riffing and solos on that last album are the most technical thing they have done, but the songwriting was lackluster. Superjoint is awesome! What I liked about Down is it was a supergroup that worked, those albums were very above and beyond the individuals other bands imo

Korn - Follow The Leader came out when I was in middle school, I liked it quite a bit. Still do. Definitely could NEVER get into Slipknot though. . . Suicide Silence, Despised Icon, Impending Doom, etc. 2000's "Twinkcore" was my personal gateway into Metal. I still love Deathcore. I can't betray the Twink lol

I think he's severely underrated, and makes overrated "metchul" drummers like newb adler Marco duplantier and Danny carey look like amateurs. I think he's got way more in common with someone like Bill Ward or Pete Sandoval, than any of his trendy overrated contemporaries commonly hailed as virtuosos..lol

I remember korn was the band that got me into extreme music back in 99 I was 19 🎶 I do like slipknot specially their first album and iowa but after that I lost interest in them. I discovered heavier and more extreme bands after and started going to hell fest and meeting other people into extreme music. I just always been very awkward and never had many friends but metal is definitely my escape.

In regards to the Slipknot comment... I'm 10 years older than you and have been listening to metal since you were getting out of diapers. Kreator, Morbid Angel, Deicide, etc. I listen to most genres of metal new bands and old (my favorite being raw black metal), and cannot stand deathcore (twinkcore). Slipknot doesn't really fall into that category in my opinion. There are a few Slipknot songs that I really like. Do I love it all? NO. Would I wear their shirt? HELL NO. But they do have musical value.
