  • Dec 14th 2014, arround 14:00 local, flight AF 7731 aborted take off due to "a runway incursion by another aircraft", as explained by the captain. We had already been delayed for an hour because of the fog, but after another half hour, we were back on the runway and on our way.

    At this speed, i can assure you the captain has saved your life. The "faulty" plane entered because of the fog on the runway could have been crashed at full speed.

      I shared the same thought - It`s also quite common when you have poor visibility, but nevertheless you have enough warning systems around to avoid the worst in time.

    • @mathias1dk
      @mathias1dk Před 3 lety +5

      If you don't know where it entered, how can you really assure that? A plane entering at the opposite end of the rwy and holding still would never be a problem, given that this aircraft were not violating performance speeds the given day. But probably a good decision to stop anyway!

      @@mathias1dk Well, the problem with that is if this plane suffers a mechanical failure the intrusion aircraft can be easily crashed into.

    Why does this happen ??
    Ground controllers have ground radar and should 'see' aircraft. Other aircraft are given the usual precise instructions about taxying, holding short of runways etc. And we still have situations like this when it's foggy. It shouldn't happen !!
    The captain obviously sounded calm when talking to the passengers but I'll bet he was raging about being put in that position. It could have ended far worse.

    when people starts talking and panicking during an aborted takeoff/landing because it's not their usual "accelerate and climb", or their usual "decel and descend". but as an av geek, this is one of the best gifts during a flight - in the event that the aborted takeoff/landing is not a result of something life-threatening that is (medical emergency)

    Good job on the flight crew for knowing when to abort takeoff before it was past the point of no return. Too often pilots are under extreme conditions and still have to perform critical and potentially life-altering decisions. When you add adverse weather conditions to this it can be deadly. This flight crew didn't just save their lives and their passengers, but those of the other aircraft as well, not to mention any on the ground.
