I had a dream last night, probably from coming back to listening to these again, where I was at a massive football ground with my dad and steve, and i was looking down on us from a 3rd person view, and steve was like 15 feet tall, really thin, and dressed head to tree in luminous green. i was literally thinking to myself whilst looking down on us 'fuck me i knew he was tall but christ'.
This is the XFM show, audible.co.uk is podcasts. XFM Series 1 - > XFM Series 2 -> XFM Series 3 -> XFM Series 4 -> Podcast Series 1 -> Podcast Series 2 -> Podcast Series 3 -> Podcast Series 4 (Podfather trilogy) -> Podcast Series 5 -> "The Ricky Gervais Guide To..." (11 shows)
He did,and the same goes for the " standing on girlfriends dress " story, where it changed from someone to Karl himself that made the hole. Wonder why the change,if anyone knows, please tell. :-)
I believe Karl to be a character... Not a real person as there are inconsistency's in his stories... But if he is this is marvellous acting and improvisational acting... Great writing too
Adam had just had a nervous breakdown, and was arrested for turning up in a pup, looking for someone, that in his mind had made threats towards himself and his daugther. He ended up smashing a window of the pup and waving a gun around, that turned out to be a starting pistol, but still,he got nicked, and to cut a long story short, the charges against him, which included criminal damage and threatening members of the public, were reduced to a single count of causing affray, to which he pleaded guilty.>
Yep and if I recall correctly it was the exact same script? I never saw the whole thing just a side by side ~10 minute comparison between the 2. If I recall correctly it didn't go further than the pilot, though correct me if I'm wrong.
for you avid fans... does anyone know the part where Ricky was doing a Winston Chruchill impression about fighting Hitler... and was swearing alot.... there used to be a clip called 'Rough sounding churchill' but its been removed. ... sorry if the detail isnt very good, i hope someone knows this... thanks
my guess is since its early in the seasons he didnt want to implicate his dad at the time so he just put himself in there so if there was any embarrassment it was on his part
What were they talking about during the first five minutes about Adam Ant? What did he do? I was only little at the time so the cultural reference escapes me.
Steve does this too when he's telling the rugby story the first time he tells it his mum said careful someone broke their neck the next time he told it he said someone broke their back, stories from your childhood do get forgotten and replaced with half truths, i dont think its their fault it happens to everyone i know, when you're 40 try telling stories from 20+ years ago in full detail, no hate intended here I just think it's something that happens mate
Also inconsistency suggests natural thought and memory surely? Wouldn't it being scripted bring an unrealistic consistency to his comments and memories?
Probably has more to do with the US population being 6 times larger than the British. If you have 'made a name for yourself' with 320 Million people, an extra 60 isnt that important. The other way around is much more worthwhile
> he has been in trouble with the law,on many ocations since this incident, all down to Adams mental health, that im sad to say, seems to be,fragile at best. He has been talking about a comeback for years now,and concert wise he has sort of done it,but if there ever will be any new Ant albums is hard to say.
Yes we have different cultural values and whenever Americans attempt to replicate our humour it's rarely funny to us. That said I do like American comedy shows to some extent but in terms of sitcoms/stand up comedy and the like, Britain is usually more funny/appealing to us Brits.
hate so much dat ricky thinks he is right about everything, and sumtimes says obscure facts to karl and expects him to it aswell like common its knowledge, a!rse
So, pretty much, the HBO show tries to make Karl seem weirder than he is, cuz in the HBO show he NEVER laughs, but in the podcast he laughs a lot. Disingenuous. Still, love the podcast.
Actually I think it's more Karl playing up for the XFM show. They used the podcasts the recorded specifically to be released as podcasts and in them I noticed Karl says a lot more weirder things like "You never get anything done by planning" and I think he played the role of the idiot. I prefer the XFM sessions a hell of a lot more as they're more natural!
slimsniper its funny how the office was stopped in england so it didnt get predictable but then the yanks beg to use it and drag out god knows how many dull series and ruin it!
This, possibly my favourite episode, was broadcast on my birthday.
2:26 - "Staaaand and deliver-yoe-yeo-your money or your lief...uh!" xD
It really would help out a lot for many American shows.
I sometimes think this but then I remember how much myself and pretty much all my friends and family have inconsistencies when reminiscing!
Still Loving These...Keep up the good work FullXFM ^_^ xXx
haha ive just finished one! Series 1 to 4 while I work. Its about the 8th time ive had a Karlathon!
Guys try this:
Each time the song comes on, open another youtube and listen to it, it makes the podcast seem more real =)

RG and SM always said if they had written Karl as a character they would definitely want to take the credit for it....
Steve- baldy! "hey come on". i felt so sorry for Karl lol :D
yep. these old broadcasts are really entertaining :p
Great picture:D
ahhh so this is the episode where karl's round headed-ness is first discovered haha
Maybe this image was the origin of the typical 'moody looking karl with gervais laughing' image we see everywhere now.
Thanks for uploading
Weird but listening to this with lotr music is great
yeah, for the past year over and over
i started years ago...same videos..just as funny on the tenth time round lol
'What was the printers name.' hahahahahah!
what does steve tell his barber "give me that coconut haircut" hahahha
Every day is a Karlothon.
Top 10 Karl quote IMO.

Stroke on a Tuesday lol
I thought he was gunna say "I can swim"
37:34 I didn't have a go at him anyway. Lmfao
i remember Cordon Bleu - there was one in Bramhall!
That acting mental thing works.
nah the inconsistencies in his stories are because he sometimes lies a bit when he tells a story and then forgets hes told the story before.
I sure am!
stephans laugh @39:38 ahahaha
He did,and the same goes for the " standing on girlfriends dress " story, where it changed from someone to Karl himself that made the hole. Wonder why the change,if anyone knows, please tell. :-)
yep.
Didnt he tell the same story again but it was his Dad that said Hello Ken?
IT CAAAAN CAAAUUUSE shrinkage.
I believe Karl to be a character... Not a real person as there are inconsistency's in his stories... But if he is this is marvellous acting and improvisational acting... Great writing too
anyone else having a Karlothon?

I'm confused on audible.co.uk it says that season 1 of ricky gervais show was 12 episodes but on here it's more than that?
Yeah your right jamie, dont know whats up with that!?
Yep and if I recall correctly it was the exact same script? I never saw the whole thing just a side by side ~10 minute comparison between the 2. If I recall correctly it didn't go further than the pilot, though correct me if I'm wrong.

When Karl laughs a Double rainbow happens in every country in the world

did you see the pilot for the American "IT Crowd"?
it had Richard Ayoade in it, and it was still absolutely terrible.
Hahaha, my mate smokes a pipe and he is 17
Why does Karl later on tell the Ken Dodd story but say his dad says it?
karl told that ken dodd story but his dad was the one saying nice to meet you ken ......lies
Is that the old name for a snickers?
Well IMO that's justice really, that poor bicycle tire was just minding it's own business but you just had to come along and pop it, didn't you.
I thought it was Karl's dad who called that guy ken?
Also inconsistency suggests natural thought and memory surely? Wouldn't it being scripted bring an unrealistic consistency to his comments and memories?

Are freaks electric? Are they Karl?

At 39:20 Ricky was wrong, single cell protozoa are not an animal.
hate so much dat ricky thinks he is right about everything, and sumtimes says obscure facts to karl and expects him to it aswell like common its knowledge, a!rse
You're not a zoologist by any chance are you?
+Eddy otu have you heard of correct spelling?
are not animals* its basic syntax

"Cant think" You really are american.
slimsniper its funny how the office was stopped in england so it didnt get predictable but then the yanks beg to use it and drag out god knows how many dull series and ruin it!
Hug and make up?
That's not a complete sentence.
Yes. When Americans try to do British humour they simply ruin it (see the American version of 'The Inbetweeners').
03:30 Whose mental illness are they talkin about?
so what mate? seriously
"British humour"?
crack pipe
