One of the biggest problems with learning 3d on my own has been finding a learning path. There really are no linear paths here and CZcams tutorials often skip the "why" and "how" things work and instead rely on the result to speak for itself. The problem here is that this doesn't teach you anything. It's also frustrating that there is no supplemental documentation to carry away at the end of a tutorial or lesson to study and learn from. Instead, you have to skip through the memes and hope you understand the workflow because these videos aren't geared towards people becoming professionals. It's easy to re-post other people's tutorials (just look at how many copycat videos imitating Ian Hubert's style) or just re-post the skimming of the documentation for another "hey, guys!" video to earn dollars on CZcams.
Once you realize this you can easily find the areas you are deficient in and improve those skills specifically.

Excellent guide video. It can be overwhelming learning any app or software as robust as Blender. Great tips for structuring your own learning path and pace for growth. I'm still learning and growing myself using your ideas for personal development. Although my business is primarily focused on branding and logo design; adding 3D to the visual presentations I share with clients has added a significant amount of value to my work. I can confidently charge more and be content with the rejections because when someone does says "yes," it's almost always much better than trying to work with clients who don't want to invest in the offer presented to them. Continue encouraging others, teaching, and sharing your creative genius wiht the world.

I was honestly expecting this video to be more specific, kind of like a "pipeline" for beginners before they reach their "niche", because I'm honestly still experimenting with my pipeline, currently doing Crossmind Studios beginner tutorial after doing 2 donuts and 1 chair tuto by Andrew Price. Been playing around with Blender for almost 1 year and I'm still messing around with beginner tutorials because honestly I think its a struggle for "beginners" like me to kind of figure out my basics although I want to major in Animation as my niche.
There's basically too much stuff to take in because everything relates to each other like modelling, texturing, rigging, etc. You can't just expect a chef to just know how to fry an egg and be called a professional. Same thing like blender, that is why I'm still stuck with beginner tutorials and basics, because as long as my basics aren't polish I will not go into Animation.
Sorry for the long rant, entertaining video btw.

Starting out, I had this HUGE goal, and I do still have this huge goal, ( Theatre of Blood pet and the Sanguine Dust, maybe the Scythe of Vitur ) but I took a step back and started just doing the small goals that will lead me that way naturally, and enjoy the grind, and the moments of achievement that come between. Now I feel like I'm actually LEARNING the game. The same applies with Blender. I have HUGE goals, animating and rigging models I made in environments I made for whatever content I'd like them in, streaming, games, animated videos... Loving the RuneScape analogies, I remember grinding out fishing and mining, mining was more of a pain because you had to wait and switch servers just to get access to the ores. Once I hit lobsters on fishing, I, uh, kinda gave up on mining and focused on selling lobbies.

Can you help? I did a fluid sim on frames 1-90, then built a set to incorporate the effect. Now I want to do a whole scene for a minute or more before the baked sim starts. I thought it would have key frames or something so I could drag it on the timeline. Is there a way to just move it to later without having to re-sim or re-bake? Any advice is much appreciated.

Im in a weird situation, I’m a video game animator for my day job, been using Maya for over a decade. I mentor people on game dev (basically help them along the path of making a game over the course of a year). Maya getting rid of student liscence a makes doing the animation modelling and rigging in Maya prohibitively expensive for students so now I’m learning blender, ironically to teach blender.

so fun fact. The biggest reason why wanted to start 3d animation is to make short videos that are Runescape related. Have played it over 20 years now and well over 20.000h. I am totally dedicated to the game, love it, jagex and most of all the community. Have grinded it hard so i see no problem to grind and learn blender then!
    thanks for great content!

i have a total of like 15 hours in blender. For my first render, i converted my logo into an SVG file and imported it in, i then messed about with settings, watched tutorials, and created a super cool background for my computer. It was a great first render in my opinion and i plan to keep working with it.

Yo, this is a good idea. I've only been learning what I need to make charcaters and props for video games. So the whole rendering side, I haven't really cared about, but making a cool environment and this logo looking like its made of steel in a pile of ash or something could be an awesome desktop background and great way to get into the rendering and all that. thx for the idea lol

Hi Smeaf, what's your opinion on AI improving daily for 3D modeling and texturing? I'm currently learning Blender and I think I'm at "level 3" based on your video. However, I'm concerned that my technical skills might become obsolete as AI changes the way 3D is created. While other skills such as composition and lighting will still be useful, the job of a 3D artist may become less profitable due to the reduced complexity. What do you think?

I have game ideas but not sure if that will take my time away from focusing on my learning with Unreal Engine and game development. I have seen some people make cool assets for their games but then again with my tight work/family / limited time it is even remotely possible or I should leave that to someone that is focusing on it more and use assets as placeholders?
