Un the user manual indicates:
"PERFORM-VK responds to Control Change (CC), Program Change (PC) and MIDI Tempo (not MIDI Clock) information."
and
"MIDI Tempo Perform-VK responds to incoming MIDI tempo and will adjust system Tap Tempo accordingly."
Why can't i use midi clock information to sync my DAW with perform vk?
There are a couple of HUGE shortcomings in this device compared to earlier TC-Helicon devices. 1) There is no "Lead Mute" so that the vocal mic input can be muted at the output (only effects are sent to the mixer). Most quality TCH devices do have this feature (Dual Mono Mode or Lead Mute on/off). 2) Three presets only?! This is much too limiting for a serious live performance device. My VoiceLive Play GTX, for example, has 235 presets! After spending a lot of time with a Perform-VK, I'm selling the darned thing. Its fun in the living room, but not ready for gigs.
I am musician from Russia and I purchased TC Helicon Perform VK.
I was very disappointed with the fact, that the device doesn’t work as it described in manual:
- AUX can be muted only with INST-IN;
- the harmony is recognizing from both INST-IN and AUX at the same time.
I just wanted to use this device as mixer also, but now I need additional mixer :-\
Nobody nowhere write about these features, the manual says it should work another way.
Can you say me, please, is it engineer mistake? Is manual incorrect? Or if I have defective device?

If you play live, and sending piano and vokal to the mixer from the tc-helicon vk. Kan ypu splitt the vokal from the piano? or is everything on the same track? I want to have the vokal at one track, and piano in the other, while playing live. Is that possiable?
Does the build-in room sense mic also helps you with pich correction, and getting the harmonies right? or is it only the midi from the keyboard that help you get the right Harmony and pich correction?

Does anyone has idea among Perform-V, Perform-VK and Duplicator, which one will best suit me if I am only looking at pitch correction?
How do the outs work? I see mic in and L/R keys in... but only L/R out ... how would I then mix mc and keys in a mixer? Do they come out together from the VK? I'd prefer the keys to just pass through, and be used where necessary by the machine, but for it to also have a mic XLR out. Is that possible somehow? Thanks.
I need to know (since my keyboard does not have a standard MIDI out it only has a USB out) can I use all of the harmonies in the harmonies section using Stereo Out from keyboard into Inst In VK?
Will it be just as the MIDI and when I say that I mean will it really follow up all of my harmonies since I do play jazz and a lot of jazz chords?
I used to have 3 of the Harmony-M units MIDIed to my rig for the lead singer, myself, and another singer. I made a footswitch to turn them all on/off at the same time. Our sound was huge :)
I have since sold them and am looking at this unit, as it is controlled via MIDI.
Do the effects in this unit have a vocoder feature in there somewhere as well? It is not bad if it does not, but I thought I would ask anyway.

If this thing can be used live then why isn't there a mic out? You can't hook the keys and the vocals in the same input. This is the only thing I've ever found that comes close to something you can use with a keyboard and I was getting ready to buy it until my drummer told me that there's no mic out on it

Very excited about this! It seems like you've added all the features I thought were missing from the original Perform, specifically MIDI and Stereo I/O. Am I correct that the VK can detect chordal info from either the MIDI or audio inputs? So this would be able to generate harmony from a keyboard lacking 5-pin MIDI, or even a guitar? Also, when will the website have a photo of the back side of the VK? Great demo, as usual!

Hey Andre, yes it does work without a keyboard, but the harmonies are then generated by a room mic which picks up on whatever chord progression you are working with. There are other products that are designed without the keyboard input, such as the Harmony Singer 2 or the Perform V. So if you aren't looking for a keyboard input, you might have better use for a device with the main purpose of generating harmonies!

Midi vs Inst In? Any difference or both function as chord recognition for harmony?
MIDI is generally the most reliable method of getting note information because it's just data. Instrument is the next most reliable, followed by Aux input for mixed music. With MIDI you can also use "notes" mode harmony and directly control up to 8 voices of harmony, which can be cool.
you can use MIDI just for 1 type of harmonization: Natural mode (the harmony repeat pressed keys). Other doesn't work.
Hi, I play the keyboard but sometimes I'll want to use this gadget by itself so I have a question, do you have to play the keyboard in order to do the harmonies or can you just sing without it and the harmonies come out?
Two years later and never got an answer.
It is midi connected to your keyboard, so, if you dont play chords on your keyboard, it wont produce harmony !

It's not as "Synthy" as VTSynth, but you can use Notes Mode to drive harmony voices with specific MIDI note input.

Yep, you can do multi-track via USB with separate harmony.
Great! went ahead and purchased the Perform VK. I go from the Mic>Pre amp>Perform VK. Pre amp doesn't seem to like it very much as the tone is very harsh - any tips?

You don't need to put a preamp prior to the VK. It's got it's own preamp. That may contribute to a bit of oddness. If you do use the pre, make sure to set the gain on VK so it's not getting too much signal. Also, try turning Tone off if you're using a condenser mic at a distance. Tone mostly helps (the EQ at least) with reducing mud and proximity effect when you're close to a dynamic mic.

Does this work better than the GTX Voicelive midi for tracking keyboard harmony?
In terms of both NaturalPlay and MIDI Notes... no. Our algorithm is the same on both products. If you're totally happy with your GTX, you're not going to get a vast improvement with VK. It's more about the form factor, stereo instrument ins, anti-feedback and some of the other features that VK brings that we hope makes it appealing to folks.
This looks like my next vocal processor! If I were to combine this with one of your foot switches, which one would you recommend? I'm a keyboard player and sometimes sing while playing keyboard but I also sing as a lead singer up front on the stage (without playing a keyboard).
There's two footswitches that we offer, the Switch3 and Switch6. It likely comes down to how many things you'd want to control when playing keys, since the unit will be easier to interact with when you're singing lead (though you may want to check out our MP-76 mic that can control things remotely). Lots of people get away with 3 switches and use them for things like Harmony, Echo and Tap Tempo, leaving Reverb on all the time. It'll also depend on how many switches you feel is reasonable to manage if they're down at your feet and you can't see them all the time under the keys.

Can I use this unit as a out board effect on my mixer for more than one voice . My Dat mixer as a Qu24 and dose is not acceptable to using wave effects. Sooo can I use this as a effect in this case. Now the effects are great in my mixer but I could use more variety if you know what I mean.
You can use any of the effects that don't require pitch detection to operate. So, reverb, echo, modulation etc. are ok but Double, Harmony and Pitch Correction are out. We need a monophonic source for that.
Is there a way to manage/mix the outputvolumes from the microphone, keyboard and effects?
The mic volume is the reference level, so you'd adjust effects level relative to that. Keyboard level is controlled from the keyboard itself.
And how do you EQ the mic and keyboard separately?? They go in 1 stereo input on the mixer...

Hi thanks a lot for the review, just a technical question: in MIDI note Mode, the "voices" sing right the notes you play on the keyboard, but how many voices Perform-VK can handle in MIDI Notes mode? Hi, i see in this example , using the MP75 mic and the Phantom power is not activated ... that should be the way but the quick start quide says you have to use +48V also for these dynamic microphones ? Am I missing something ?
Nope, dynamic microphones do not require 48v phantom power.
Is there a way to control the level of the MIC IN and INST/AUX IN? I love being able to send my voice and digital piano together to the OUTS, but I have to set the volume on the piano almost off to keep it from being way louder than my voice. This would be a great feature to add to the firmware if it's not already in there.
Rod Tompkins you need to turn the gain up on the mic input and turn the gain up on the mixer, then turn the piano down. Don't use the auto gain setting, it's hopeless.
@@officialWWM I appreciate the suggestion, but I've already tried that. My piano out is just way too hot for the instrument inputs on the VK. I did come up with a decent solution which was to put a passive stereo attenuator between the piano and the VK, although I hate having extra stuff to hook up. I'm actually using a different piano now which has a lower output and works perfectly for me with the VK, so it's not an issue any longer. I agree with you that it's better to set the gain manually, although I wish the VK remembered the settings between power cycles.
Rod Tompkins I'm glad you found a solution. I don't like that both the keyboard and mic come out on pair of trs cables and that you need so many cables to hook this thing up! I take a cable from the headphone out of my keyboard to the aux in of the TC and then send the balanced outs of the keyboard to the mixer so I have separate control. Then I just take one cabe from the left (mono) out of the TC to the mixer for my mic. This gives my sound guy proper control of the mix.
Can I harmomise for major and minor scale songs? if so, how do I select it based on the song?
Sure can. Typically we'd expect you'd have either audio or MIDI from a connected keyboard for VK. Our NaturalPlay will determine key and scale based on what you play. If you don't connect an instrument, you'd need to use the app to send presets with a predefined key/scale to the product.

You can on some of our products, but not Perform-VK (at least on the analog outs). Via USB we do split out the harmony voices separately. There's a description in the manual. www.tc-helicon.com/en/support/product/perform-vk/
My experience with TC-Helicon: the FOH dudes don't like these boxes due to hard to control mic feedback. Useful enough if you're playing at home or in a scarse mix. This type of commercial driven enthusiasm that tells me they're markeding is for the unexperienced. Not reasureing..
It does often require a conversation with the FOH engineer. It needs to be explained that Tone in our products needs any eq, comp, de-ess, gating etc. turned off, along with any other effects on the vocal path, at their mixer. Sometimes that's hard to get across. It's too easy to just point at the TCH unit and say it's causing any issues, but there is a certain amount of working with the two systems to get the most out of it.
My Play Electric proved a feedback nighmare and after the first gig it was OUT!. No more TC Helicon for me. Useful presets where surprisingly few and far between. (unless you have Karaoke night at home, -then I suspect they'll be cheese heaven).
Your over the top presets and horrible TV-shoppie markeding DO NOT make me wanna buy anything TC Helicon anymore. Now how about a Barbie Play Live for my niece..?! :D
@ supa supa. you must be using them wrong. As with any piece of gear know it well before you apply it. I own a mic mechanic, which I use on a karaoke rig for one mic. It is outstanding in the way it enhances a singer. I have very active clients that sing at multiple venues with other kj's. they always come back to me saying how much better they sound. I'm using cheap GTD Audio wireless mics! that being said I get nothing but praise from sing and venue owners about how those singers sound. I also have owned the voice live play. I used that in my 5 piece band. I'm the lead vocalist. never had I had an issue like you mentioned. I informed the sound tech to run my vocal line flat and dry, and turn my pre down. I then set my gain to my liking in the monitor. he then set the pre amp for front of house. non issue. after the perform v came out I bought that due to not needing the billion things on the voice live play. I don't need to sound that produced in a garage band. the perform v is perfect for my needs. It's a good mix of my mic mechanic and the play. I only wish my tc mic' s hit button worked with it. I do enjoy the firmware updates on the mechanic and the v. So the key here is know your gear. practice with it plenty, set up live scenarios before you take it out. works great for a million other performers, so you need to ask what you are doin wrong.
By all means, Karaoke! - bang on if you're happy with it. I'm not and neither are the FOH men I've been working with.

I have used it plugged to a mixer (sound table) and I would like to know hjow to separate the controls of the microphone and my keboard I mean is there any way how to deal with the se controls separately. It's actually your choice. If you want perfectly clean information, MIDI is the way to go. If your keyboard sounds are such that you can hear chords (not heavily distorted etc.) then audio works fine too. Generally you don't need to use both at the same time.
Will it only work with keyboard? Or electric guitar as well?
Hi Ronald. Because this product is taking direct midi input, it is not best suited for guitar. For adding effective harmonies to your voice using guitar as the input we suggest trying out our Harmony Singer Pedal. Cheers.

The mic mount is part of the chassis on VK. It's ready to mic mount out of the box :)
What can I do to synchronize sound of korg kross connected to tc helicon perform vk? The sound comes later in part of a second after touching the key. Thanks
You're connecting the two devices with a 5-pin MIDI cable, right? The Perform-VK does not induce any latency upon incoming MIDI signals, it's instant. The "Set" button on Perform-VK will flash red every time you press a note key on your Korg, so if you're noticing a delay between pressing a key and that "Set" button lighting up, that delay must be on the Korg's output. If that's the case, can you connect the Korg's MIDI output to a DAW and confirm the delay is still present?

Hmm, if Mic Control is turned on and you don't have an MP-75 or MP-76 it could be triggering when you sing loud. Double check the setup menu and make sure phantom/mic-control is off.
whats the difference between the Perform V and the Perform VK?
V is generally meant for a vocalist who doesn't play an instrument. Key/scale for harmony and such is derived from incoming Aux signals (music) and/or the RoomSense mic that tries to listen to what's in the room. Perform-VK has dedicated inputs, both audio and MIDI, for keyboard so you can guide key/scale with the instrument. VK also has multi-channel USB audio capability. Perform-V doesn't support USB audio.

Sure. You can set it up as a USB audio device and it should show up in your DAW.
There is some preset that sounds stereo in notes mode, just as it sounded tc helicon harmony m in manual mode
The output of VK is stereo, so all presets will have stereo output if you've connected both TRS outs. If you connect one, it'll sum to mono.
If I use TRS outs, but in notes mode via midi?

The main outs are balanced TRS. You can connect them to any mixer channel with 1/4 ins. Just set the gain on your VK first, then adjust as necessary on the mixer so that you don't clip at that gain stage.

Really great for the one-man band keyboard player/vocalist. Note, it's not a miracle device i.e. won't work if you've got serious tone-deaf/pitch problems. Needs to be turned up a bit so the device can 'hear' the chords you're playing in. If you've got an ok voice and just need the little lift to make it sound special and you need reliable harmony vocalists or can't to pay for 'em--this the TC Helicon Perform VK is the way to go. If you sound professional like these two in the video your voice's gonna sound out of this world. I sold mine, last year. Now I'm looking for another one. I bought mine towards the end of 2017. It cost about NZ$450, back then. I'm staring just short of NZ$800 at the moment which is still good as it's just one device not a bunch of messy pedals or the out of my price range Voicelive series. Goes to show how popular they are in my neck of the woods i.e. lil ol New Zealand.

@@Rick-zw7zv The VK should be able to harmonize with whatever you are playing. It does work best with more traditional scales and without heavy distortion. Are you having some issues or is it sounding off?
@@tchelicon No, I'm using the TC-Helicon H1, C1 and R1 pedals, I have the right hand chord information going to the H1 Harmonizer because I notice the left hand bass patterns are throwing the Harmonizer off, luckily I can split the keyboard and route the left hand audio to a different output and the right hand notes to the H1. It sort of works alright in most cases (wish I bought this unit instead, it would have saved me money and connection cables). I just assume that playing left hand bass patterns might still throw this harmonizer off as well.

Buyers beware. You cannot seperate the main vocal from the harmony in a live situation. Did they not talk to any professional sound guys? Nobody wants that in a professional situation, you need a main vocal isolated to have any kind of control. You cannot expect the singer to mix on the fly
Well you can in the higher end products, however, I’ve never had a problem with it. Just choose a conservative level where you don’t hear the harmony level over your voice and you’ll be fine.
electrolegs might have thought that no sound guy on the planet wants main vocal and harmonies coming down the same line.

The perform vk is just a toy designed for amateurs and karaoke singers not for professionals don't waste your money.
If you don't want to use Tone, you certainly don't have to. We might be able to add some options for styles in the future, but I'm not sure. Ditto for the pitch correction. You don't have to use it. Those two things certainly don't make the rest of the features/effects any less usable. They're just tweaks.
