  • Ezekiel Starr was one of many Cherokees swept up in a civil war of sorts between two tribal factions known as the Ross Party and the Treaty Party. It was an internal tribal dispute that lasted decades following the Indian removal known as the "Trail of Tears."

Our family is the Old Settlers and was willing to move as our elders wanted part of New Mexico and Colorado. This is not taught as the Ross Party was willing to settle with Oklahoma.

The Eastern Cherokees bought a lot of their land back and it was taken away AGAIN...Then the Methodist church purchased some parts of it back and held it in trust for the tribe.
