    Pitchforks are good early on to allow more people to attack a specific spot on the map and focus down an enemy. Definitely better than the woodcutter's axe. It's more necessary in origins the start with lower quality brothers and that tend to get larger team sizes early on. If everyone is getting one tile weapons they get in each other's way. And pitchfork is relevant early on before you get reliable ranged.

      Completely agree. It is better than all the S tier weapons , consider the cost and cost effectiveness.

      @@HuyNguyen-jl7goRight on. Peasant militia is my most played origin and I don't generally do the immediate downsize trick. I try to rush to 16+ ASAP. Pitchforks and knives are the absolute top priority early buys, although there are occasions where a javelin stack or two can compete with that. Super cheap militia spears and hats being slightly behind those.
      They also are so important when doing that as a way to protect the few decent initial brothers if so lucky as to have them.
      It took years but I also have come to find occasional immense value in its Repel move. Especially against early undead. Can deny attacks from a lone fallen hero (not uncommon early on as a high early size PM/manhunter run) or nasty armored zombie early on for a massive change in outcome for example. Can allow 2 bros to tie down something that could take down 4 brothers otherwise.
      They fall off quick with their horrid armor damage but being so cheap and light they make ok pocket tools as the fight progresses for a while.
      Pair very well with the 2H wooden mallet early to dumpster anything scary that can't be punctured safely. Can roll up a side of the line super quick like that.

    27:00 - the primary boon of a firelance, is the fact that you can be lucky and find it very cheap in a southern market, and it's a tier 2 spear with extra armor damage, though without spearwall.
    which is not very much of a boon, but a +20% accuracy melee weapon usable by trash bros vs. armored enemies is alright in a pinch

I have been playing it like crazy lately and have got one playthrough with the Oath Takers at day 150 but I keep having to fight the other oath takers and they keep whipping my ass lol so I keep trying to put it off but my guys are getting pissed lol. I just recently started another playthrough as *"The Hedge Knight"* as I've never played this start before. Only have played the normal *"Mercenary"* start and *"Oath Takers"* but the *Hedge Knight* is pretty fun so far, my guy is a beast! Level 10 and already over 90 melee and 30 melee defense. Have to becareful with my *Hedge Knight* because if he dies then the gameplay is over. With only 120 hours in *Battle Brothers* I think I messed up by picking the *"Undead Army Takeover"* for my late game crisis... I heard different opinions on *Undead Army* and people are saying its sometimes easy for them and fun and others are saying it's actually the *HARDEST* late game crisis. I forgot the damn legionnaires are *Undead* and they are a pain in the ass to fight, espcially the *"Honor Guard"* ones. Just had a fight with them and lost one of my best archers and had my *Hedge Knight* get beat down and take a permanent injury :(

    Some serious hate for the Warbow in this video lol I think Feeding had the better idea though, weapons are tools designed for different purposes.
    The word "free fight" got thrown around a lot in this video as well and I don't really agree that there is such a thing, not really. All fights cost tools and all enemies require actions to kill. Every hit on your bros costs a lot of tools to fix and time to fix HP, and bows can kill things before they even get a chance to swing. Only the latest fights are going to be against 10+ Chosen or whatever and sure, the bow sucks there. But I think Feeding is super correct that if you loot a warbow that there is value in having that range before engaging. The ranged attack doesn't stop functioning just because you switch weapons.
    Great video overall though. Definitely thought the bow part was contentious though.

    • @scott5211
      @scott5211 Před 8 měsíci +1

      I think bows were once very good, but that was a long time ago, and through DLC power creep, and nerfs - in their current state, in a 'min max' mindset, bows are pretty much useless.
      If a brother has high ranged attack, guns or throwing will simply put dps or nuke the resolve at an exponential rate compared to bows.
      At a high level play, the pace of a run is pretty high. I'm usually cracking large chosen camps by around day 50 or so. In which case, war bows don't typically even spawn yet, unless you get lucky with a master archer, or something.

  • @OffMetaProfessor
    @OffMetaProfessor Před 5 měsíci +2

    The bows should have different ranges, eg a Warbow/Longbow should have 2-3 more tiles of range than a short bow, as a long bow has an average range of 150ft while a short bow has a range of 80ft, seems stupid balancing them by only having slightly more damage, as that makes more sense with crossbows, as they don't really increase much in range due to heavier crossbows using bigger bolts/arrows.

  • @MisterYodaSmith
    @MisterYodaSmith Před 5 měsíci

    The problem is that comparing every weapon to the best possible equipment makes no sense in a tier list to begin with. There's a reason why tier lists don't work that way.
    If you don't have Javelins or Guns, where are Bows in that situation? They're a very good ranged weapon option that opens up a lot of possibilities in combat. Javelins being better doesn't mean Bows are useless.
    The same issue exists in Mount and Blade and other similar games. Take away a single group of ranged weapons from the game, Bows, and what do you have? You have Crossbows. What if you didn't have Crossbows? Well, Throwing weapons would seem extremely strong at that point.
    This isn't how tier lists work. Take away the S tier and then compare weapons in A tier, B tier, C tier, etc.
    The only reason F tier exists is when a weapon simply cannot be good in any situation. Putting everything that would be considered sub-optimal into F tier is just a junk tier list.

    I know its a fairly low tier weapon but From Tier 1 ( best to worst) the bludgeon is placed in front of the Souther mace, both of them are the exact same weapon type but the southern mace provides 15% more effectiveness to armor than the bludgeon does, and also provides 5 more minimum damage than the bludgeon ( the bludgeon has a 20-35 range, while the Southern mace provides 25-35) IMO its a much better weapon overall in regards to being the same base type. not a fabulous weapon overall but definitely a statistical upgrade to the bludgeon if you find one very early game.

      Big thing on throwers is they have unmatched ranged dps. Bows can only compete on unarmored targets. Meanwhile, a thrower with duelist and heavy javs will inflict nasty injuries on a full health chosen on the opening throw.
      Also lots of utility with nets and thrown pots in the offhand. I still build a bow or two for necro and goblin fights, but against everything else, throwers are king!

      Ancient Undead have high armour but low hp. I'd raid the barbarians for axes and maces as it'll flatten them ona hit. Otherwise overwhelm gunners to nerf their hit chance. Ancient dead have fearsome perk, it's the morale damage and break that's actually fatal.

    • @rafaelcastor2089
      @rafaelcastor2089 Před 7 měsíci

      Depends on the type of undead.
      Against zombies you want high base damage and some cleavers to prevent reanimation (doesn't work on heroes). The only ranged weapon that doesn't do too well is the Xbow, but you can just trade it for a handgonne which does amazingly into non-armored (still fleshy) mobs
      Against Fallen Heroes, you either want some high armor damage to strip them down or some stun/disarm bots and tanks to keep them down.
      For ancient undead, i've had a lot of success with 2H Flails. A lot of shields going around, the armor is heavy but they're pretty brittle underneath so 2H flails end up stacking a lot of kills. And if you want to bring ranged, keep to either throwing axes or bolas, they're the ones who can actually do some damage (hybrid thrower with a Billhook wrecks face there)
      For gheists the best weapons around are spears and the 3headed flail, but those are generally pretty bad. Whips work decently well too and can help dealing with 2H fallen if those are part of the fight.
      Against Necrosavants, swords and spears work well enough, as do cleavers since they still bleed (somehow). The 3H flail can also kill them through 9lives sometimes which i find very funny.

In case you don't have many bros, make sure you still have enough damage output (the faster you kill, the less damage you take). @@aseed89 This video didnt have to be over 20 minutes and the tier description is convoluted and misleading. The end result wasn't bad. But the bottom line is he doesnt have enough experience with all the weapons and he doesnt have enough knowledge about them either. The fact that allot of the weapons were initially ranked too low or too high. He actually considered the Three Headed Flail low and flip flopped several times. Strongly depending on the guest's opinion. This was more a discussion video than proper advice.
      If you dont have enough experience with anything in this game, you can simulate with Item adding and Stat changing mods. So allot of the clutter could have been avoided.
      The tier description is convoluted because they depend on the game variant and game stage being played. This isn't like an rpg where you can rush the best weapons and easily categorize it from best to worst. The militia spear and boar spear gives +20 to attack, high armor penetration and common availability. That's extremely significant and very respectable. The criteria he was going by is very late game efficiency and resourcefulness. And that wasn't disclaimed, which is a problem. Allot of the weapons he recommended are build dependent. Not a weapon that works well on most builds. Which is a significant criteria to consider. And that's a problem because he doesnt have proper references to what he is talking about. Such as a build instructions or contrast presentation (or article). You can tell a new player, the whip and the dagger is top notch, but the new player doesnt know how to build for those weapons.
      It needs to be compressed and attached to references. And the lingo used need to be explained. Unless this is a video exclusive for the geeks of the game.
