Always come back to this album at least once a year since I stumbled across it spring 2017. Just decided this morning that this is maybe one of if not my favorite album of all time 🤔 strong spiritual connection
I was in love with this from the first notes! The music and cover art remind me of putting on a record or tape and grooving around my suburban house on a Saturday afternoon when everyone else was out.
@@Ryanbrioattending a few dozen Richman shows reveals many esoteric factoids, and his daughter confirmed it Richman wrote "Me and Julio"... sounds like the feelies squeeze and r.e.m. got into a fight, and then made a record, and then burried it in a time capsules ... "more real"? can't believe i've never heard this stunner
so this is pretty good -- a departure from what I normally listen to, but now I wanna be driving to the beach with this in the cdplayer on full blast with the windows down and it's perfect for that
"Big Sky" is a compilation album of their first two which i had glued to my turntable in 1984 before living in London and doing a bicycle ride up the west coast of Turkey
Here because of Arthur Russell; for those interested, he has writing credits on: 3:01 More Real, 9:06 Driving and Talking at the Same Time (w/Brooks), 26:33 The Finish Line, 29:09 Detroit Tonight (w/Brooks), 32:13 On the Run (w/Tomney). Not to take anything away from the other tracks!
Russell is so great on this. I knew his music, but not this album. I wish the uploader would add this information, as well as a track listing, to the video description above.

Dude this is crazy, I have been fascinated for a long time by the similarities between Drake and Russell... As a matter of fact I looked up some of Arthur's songs again tonight after listinening to Nick Drake. Their similarities are most apparent I think when comparing Russel's Eli to Drake's Black Eyed Dog.
Why Aren't Both These Albums On CD Yet They Would Both Fit On One Disc Due To The Duplication Of Six Of The Tracks, Even An Unofficial Release Of The Vinyl Albums On CD Would Be Better Than Nothing. This Band Were So Good That They Deserve To Be Heard Again By A Wider Audience Today...
I changed my comment, this is a great album, love these guys, will get this on vinyl too. Hope they reissue big sky for people to hear, hard album to come by on vinyl
can't find this anywhere digitally.....tried to buy but just couldn't find, except for accidentally downloading one that was just one 40-min track. help....?!
How is this not available on CD for denizens of the old school? Reminds me of Martha & the Muffins (Toronto, Canada) or the Comsat Angels (Sheffield, England).
CZcams recommended this to me. Thanks CZcams. You complete me.

some kind of underground super group, they had:
Jesse Chamberlain (Red Krayola)
Ernie Brooks (Modern Lovers)
Arthur Rusell

Memories of NYC in the late 70s -- a favorite band of those times. Shimmering and modern -- could be a Shins album.
ClueSign any bands you can recommend for obscure nyc new wave power pop bands? Great time period

as someone who mostly plays music thru streaming services now, I sorely underplay this one :( More Real is sublime
ótima banda!!!!!!perfeita.
just when i thought i heard all of arthur russell's musical contribution to the world, here he pops up in a "indie new wave" band
+batterycock My first thought, "Is this, yaknow, Arthur Russell Arthur Russell?"

Good stuff. Being re-released in 2017!!

Ugh I wish that a digital version was made when the repress happened.
Ernie Brooks was part of the Modern Lovers
Disco increíble. Desconocido casi, pero sospecho que muy influyente...
Oh wow I didn't know Arthur Russell had a band
This album is great, just got the first one on vinyl, this is a great follow up, more fleshed out, love it

Arthur Russell goes power pop? Sign me the fuck up.
that first song kills me- in the natural world...
A great, underrated album
true dat.
Jesus, "Driving and Talking at the Same Time" is just miles above the rest of the tracks. Devastating.
"More Real" is my jam
Sooooo fkn good
I would give a kidney for this album to be on Spotify
Hola ñañis te encontre.

i would give my spotify for you to stop being a douche.
From the same year R.E.M put out Chronic Town. I feel like I'm hearing a rootsy kinship here.
New York vs Athens GA. But the Necessaries had been playing these tunes in the clubs in NY in the late 70s and only recorded in 82.

YASSSS!
Apparently Russell quit this band by hopping out of the van with his cello in the Holland Tunnel!
26:33. Wow. Listen to Arthur sing on 'The Finish Line'
Absolutely marvelous
Is 'Aeiou' fronted by Brian Ferry!??
Woahhh, you think you could spread the love in the form of a download link?
