  • NES Atari 2600 gamepad review. www.ClassicGameRoom.com Classic Game Room reviews the Nintendo NES Atari 2600 controller gamepad! This Nintendo controller (custom it would seem) has been modified to play video games on the Atari 2600! Since both buttons do the same thing it is not an ideal Atari 7800 replacement controller. Enjoy Nintendo classics on your Atari like Mario Bros. by playing them with an NES gamepad that has an Atari plug!

    R.I.P Thomas from lake grove. He was a genius when it came to modifying controllers. This one he made in this video will be sent to the museum on march 3rd in NYC. Hope to see many there.

    Mark , your sense of humor amuses my day , dude , good times when games were simpler , with just two buttons to play , Thank you for showing video game history for future generations, they need to see these things

    Mark, just letting you know as others probably have already, but this thing will work on a 7800 as well. Even with both buttons doing unique actions on games that support that.
    If of course it has been modified correctly. As far as I know it is as simple as cutting a few lines on the PCB and adding 2 resistors and making 1 little jumper connection between 2 locations on the PCB.
    Theres 2 videos online on how to do it. I wish it was more common. I think I may have to try my hand at soldering!

    You can see at the cord of the 2600 Nes joypad that it's different from the usual NES controller.
    The Cord has a stiff beginning while normal controllers have a "hanging" cord on the pad.

    I am a proud owner of a Atari 2600 4 switch wood-veneer console with 24 working games as of yesterday...sadly when I got it it came with ATARI 7800 JOYSTICKS! Still a fun console though,and not bad for getting it free from a teacher at my school.

  • @MilanorTSW200
    @MilanorTSW200 Před 12 lety

    True. That's because the Atari joystick pinout is really simple. Anyone who did at least a bit of electronics, has a head on the shoulders and a hand that doesn't shake when holding a soldering iron can remake a pad for it. Sometimes you don't even need the iron.

  • @FunkyPertwee
    @FunkyPertwee Před 12 lety

    You can tell which is which by the plastic sheilding around the cord where it conects to the Atari Nes controller.
    NES cords go in smooth.

  • @kamikaze9699
    @kamikaze9699 Před 12 lety

    Mark- learn to play some of these, or re-learn if you just forgot.
    The black ship on Planet Patrol is a friendly, so you get more points if you pick it up than you do shooting it.
    The green guys on Journey: Escape are Roadies- don't avoid them, run into them for some temporary invincibility. There's also a Kool Aid Man looking guy you should run into for invincibility from that point until you clear the level with a given band member.

    @GastroGreen Před 12 lety

  • @wflinner
    @wflinner Před 11 lety

    Well, you can tell which is which by looking at the cables connected to the controller. The connections are different because the Atari one is stiff as the NES one is loose.

    Definitely appreciate better the Nintendo Control Pad (as it is officially called) than the Atari 2600 joystick, since it is just a multi-directional stick and one fire button.

  • @videogamelover121
    @videogamelover121 Před 12 lety

    actually i found out which one it as because of the cord because the atari one has a big black thing on top while the normal nes controllers cord goes right into the controller itself

  • @jupreindeer
    @jupreindeer Před 12 lety

    I believe the modification is relatively easy. See, the NES controller has a chip inside. But, Atari 2600/Master System/Genesis are all directly wired. Bypassing the chip and exchanging the cord are little more then soldering iron work. Just takes time, know how and spare parts.

    What makes you think emulators are responsible for the Virtual Console existing? I don't see how they are related? And just because the Wii U is out doesn't mean you can't still keep your Wii to play games on. I have Virtual Console games on my Wii and I plan on buying a Wii U. I'm going to be keeping my Wii so I can continue to play those games in the future just like I do with all my other older consoles. There's no reason to worry about transferring them over.
