I’m ALL THE WAY in! They made some changes to the story in certain episodes but to be honest, they really thought about how to tell the story and you can tell they did! I’m okay with the changes but they went above and beyond to give the fans scenes that the animated show did not cover and the ACTING is phenomenal!!! I can deal with the changes because they make SENSE

Are we watching the same show? The acting is phenomenal? And, I disagree. I think they made changes that fundamentally changes the tone or motivation of the characters. I didn't need it to be one to one. One Piece wasn't and it was fantastic. But, the changes they are making aren't making the story better. They are making it worse.

I agree I enjoyed watching this live action series, better than the crappy movie

They had the comet overhead also amplifying their fire bending. Which got renamed to souzin comet after these events.

Could have fooled me. There's no visual indication the comet has amplified their firebending

I love that my question was finally answered about how the fire nation made it all the way to the Air Temple. It was all about the power of the Comet that they could draw from. Otherwise the fact that every single Airbender being there and would overpowered them wouldn't make sense. The Fire Nation were literally at their highest level of power at that exact time!

I watched the first two episodes and then I posted my thoughts on Facebook and I have copied that and posted it on reactions because I think it is worth saying. The original was aimed at 12 year olds at the start, by the end of the first season they realised they had an older audience and had adjusted it to late teens as the center audience with stuff included for the younger and older watchers. This is clearly not aimed at age 12 and it has a more serious tone, so much as I'd like the stuff like penguin sledging, I understand why they have avoided that. As for Sokka being sexist - that arc was only 2 and a half episodes long - so maybe 45 minutes worth of story at the most. As for the original creators leaving - they were with the series for a lot of the writing - this first episode they were still with the show - so THIS was stuff they were involved with. They said that they wanted to take the show in different directions because they didn't want to just redo what they had already done. Netflix didn't want to change the basic story too much. So likely it is lucky they left or the fans would have been outraged with the changes they wanted to make.
Anyway, here were my first thoughts:
It is not the same, but it is good.
Imagine if the events of Avatar the Last Airbender were real and happened 200 years ago. Nobody today was around to see it happen and there are no doubt many histories which may not all agree on every point, depending on who wrote them. So someone today created the animated series to tell the story, and they did a good job of telling it as they understood it. Then later another person does a live action version and they also try to tell the story and do a good job of it, but the two tellings put different emphasis on things and perhaps use different sources for the details and in the end, both tell the story well but neither is perfect telling of it. Neither includes everything that happened because there would be just too much to include it all and some details might be arranged differently to make it all work as a docudrama - because in both cases, they are telling it as a story, not as a dry history book.
That is what this is like. If you assume that it was a true story being told by people who only have historic accounts to work with, both tellings are likely to be imperfect but they capture the essence of the history. That's how I choose to see this and on that basis, both are great jobs but they are not identical.
Also like the many tellings of the story of Robin Hood - there are multiple great jobs of telling the story but none of them are the same, just similar. There are also some bad jobs that have been done with Robin Hood - just as Avatar had a bad job done of trying to tell the story in the Movie that Shan't be Named.

You are correct, he didn't believe it. Which made him finding the aftermath much more impactful. It feels like the heart and spirit of the show isn't there. It's just a vehicle for Netflix to make money off of established IP.
I think most fans are getting glossy eyes b/c of the shiny finish. This glossy will wear off soon.

Changing Aang from running away to taking a little flight to clear his head pissed me off. I was annoyed the rest of the episode. That is a major part of his character motivation. He ran away, and because of that he wasn't there to help protect not only his people, but the rest of the world. He feels an enormous amount of guilt for that... but no... he was just out clearing his head. Whoopsie. So dumb.

Showing those scenes of him being a kid sets up his arc. He's not disciplined, he has a child mind, he's going to make mistakes. This live action Aang is too serious.

Aang knew by what he was told, but yeah he didn't believe they were all dead because not only was it high, but it wasn't the only temple .
There was a much longer lead up to finding his mentor's body and I'm grumpy they rushed it.

22:18 Well... They didn't technically invented something to go there.
Back then in the Animated Show, the Fire Nation still have Dragons around.
Sozin had a Dragon in the Original Show.

Find me one text that claims to be a holy text which doesn't contradict itself and doesn't support anything extremely obvious and I will be more than glad to have a discussion as to if it is a legitimate religion or just say well written piece of literature however till then they're all just cults.
When a text contradicts itself and supports extremely immoral things...
That means it's not a real religion because it proves itself wrong and proves itself not holy or moral. This means they are cult members with an imaginary friend...
Pretending being apart of a cult is somehow ok is not helpful. Pretending an adult with an imaginary friend (aka someone who is mentally ill by definition) well that isn't ok either.
