I know everyone gives me stink for not making youth number one but it’s kind of right in the middle for me. It’s a breakout record with nothing but bangers, but the maturity that came with future releases is what puts that one lower on the list. Here’s my official list probably: 1. Everybody is going to heaven 2. As you please 3. Open your heart (b-side) 4. Youth 5. Split with turnover 6. Young states It’s almost criminal to try and rate citizen releases though. They’re all so good and some are so vastly different, it’s difficult.

I can agree that some songs (for me it was the song "TEN") are a little off putting at first but when put into the context of the whole album it does help to expand on the atmosphere. I know where you're coming from I hated that album when it first came out, save maybe like 2 songs but it definitely grows on you. You have to actually LISTEN to that one instead of just picking a song or 2 from it.
This is a real easy listen. Despite the sound being somewhat different (I do miss the grungy edgy angsty guitars!!) I still enjoy the song and you can still tell its Citizen. Cant wait for the album to drop!

Listening to this song over the past 2 days made me speculate on the meaning behind some of the lyrics. I think this song, partially, could be about Mat and the rest of Citizen putting out the kind of music they want and not listening to the hate they’ve been getting from their last few releases following Young States and Youth. “Don’t want to be something if I gotta sell my wounds to you Dig up a memory I hate Get some attention when I do” Maybe speaking on the fact that he might not want to sing songs that are written about situations that he has put in his past even though fans might want to hear the old bangers.
I get this similar message from other songs on the album. And I can see it. Youth was written from a place of pain. But this album feels like it comes from a place of acceptance and wanting to move forward. Giving yourself the opportunity to experience joy without being held back. I find myself personally going thought this acceptance and it’s such a blessing to think that Citizen has paralleled this similar journey

Same thing as Remo Drive. I hate it, but it happens. Bands get tired of doing the van life and want security. Sometimes become marketable is appealing to some. But not for me I guess.
