    I wish there had been these videos 16 years ago when I was feeding a family of 3 on like 25 a week! While the meals may not be the most nutritious (in some people's opinions), a lot of people do not have the privilege of worrying about the nutritional aspect of meals; they're worried about putting food in their babies' bellies. So thank you for these types of videos!!

      Isn't that the truth?! My kids are all grown now but I had 2 years in a row where I only had between 10 & 25 dollars a week to feed them. While working full time and doing the best I could to keep a roof over our heads. Lots of macaroni and butter and toast for breakfast. Very difficult times financially yet they survived and appreciate all that they have today. These types of videos would have been a life saver for me!

    When we were in a top financial situation I knew exactly how to feed my family. For any of you who have kids like mine who are gluten/enriched foods, dairy-free (mine break out in eczema) know that Latin recipes are super friendly and inexpensive. Not just Mexican food (we are not all Mexican), but in general our pollo guisado, rices, plantains and much more can go a long way.

      My daughter is gluten and enriched intolerant and broke out into hives. I had to make two separate meals, one that she can have and one my husband would actually eat because he's a big cry baby when it comes to food. Of he could have his way, he'd eat burgers and milkshakes for the rest of his life

    Watching your cutting board move when you're cutting on it gives me the heebie-jeebies! SUGGESTION! Put a wet paper towel, or damp cloth (like a hand towel) underneath and it won't move! This also helps with cutting boards that are old and starting to bow/warp. You could also purchase some of that no-slip-grip shelf liner, too, but I find a paper towel/hand towel works just as well, for free.

Potato flour can thicken your sauces and gravies. A rasper, zester, mortise and pestile will precess food the old traditional way. Sugar in water will make a simple syrup. Machedamia nuts make a good tasting blender nut milk. Eggs can make a no flour cake and breads.

Fresh fruit would go perfect with the breakfast casserole. Love your calm way ... looking forward to next video. 👍💚

      @@raquellambropoulos279 not everything is expensive, cherries are expensive but strawberries aren't.
      Cucumbers are cheap and mixed with sour cream/Greek yoghurt, salt and pepper make a great side dish, carrots and apples are cheap and if you shred and mix them, add some sugar, salt and pepper you have a nice side dish, there's a ton of simple cheap nutritious things like that.
      And yeah, frozen is always better than canned. You can even freeze your own. I do that with herbs, they last a really long time and therfore seem cheap (I used to think they're expensive because they go bad quickly and I ended up tossing them) 🤷🏼‍♀️

    • @maggieprice357
      @maggieprice357 Před 2 lety +2

      @@d-meth my toddlers go through fruit really really quickly, so I have to be super strategic about what I buy. Even strawberries are a treat in our house because they’ll be gone in a day. So I buy a big bag of apples, clementines only when they’re in season (because they’re cheaper then), and bananas and that’s pretty much it for fruit. During summertime I’ll get a watermelon because they’re cheaper then. But most people can afford fruit if they’re strategic. And you’re right. Carrots are very cheap. So is cabbage. Onions are cheap. Those are pretty staple vegetables although I also normally get frozen broccoli, which is only $1 a bag at Walmart. So it’s possible to do this! I keep a low budget for food, but it isn’t as low as what many people have to do and I’m thankful for that. I’ve never had to deal with $25 for the week or something like that so I can’t say how I would go about purchasing with that little amount.

      Depending on where you live it's easy to grow spinach or lettuce mixes, when it's warm. I bought a container garden that's on wheels from Lowe's for my apt. Use raised bed soil, it retains moisture. And the containers had a reservoir in the bottom to hold water.

    I like your recipes, and I do use some of them. I find, though, that you put together the ingredients in a weird way. Like you should fry the onions, then add you sauce and let it simmer a bit. Then add the noodles to the sauce and then dump it all into your pan to bake. It's all cooked already, so add your cheese, clover with foil and bake covered for 30 minutes and it should be good. Also, I understand that you are trying to save money, I do, but how do you serve only noodles and sauce with little to no protein at all and just about no spices? I believe the jarred stuff has one with meat in it for the same price, no? Walmart sells spices for .89 for a pretty good sized bottle. In your spaghetti, add a couple of TBSPs of Italian seasoning, a TBSP each of garlic and onion powder to the sauce and use a TBSP of bacon grease to fry your onions in and you will be SO happy! Good luck and I DO enjoy your channel

    Just FYI, to help me cut a little on the food bill :produce that is on sale that can be diced and sliced that "can be frozen" helps to stock those sale items.
    Buying frozen orange juice ,rather already made ( minute maid really good) will total cut cost make as much as you want too. Mmmm. My mom stocks 5 cans for $1.40 each from Walmart in NC here. Making your own spaghetti meatballs cuts cost ( we usually all have seasonings in the cabinet) yet the sausage is seasoned already which helps. Just add a egg and little bread crumbs and roll into balls and freeze.
