  • We team up with Dart Machinery and Vortech Superchargers to bring you the second segment of our blow-through carbureted 351 Windsor-based 427ci small block Ford.
    We've finished the engine build, and now it's time to put our 427 Small Block Ford on the Dyno. The project's name is Bitting the Bullet, and it's a '65 Mustang that's being built for the 9-second zone with this Dart engine, a Paxton Novi 2500, and a Snow Water/meth system.
    How much did it make on the dyno? You'll need to see for yourself.

    A junkyard block with a girdle is NOT the same as Dart block. How the block is poured and reinforced is completely different, main caps are different, oiling system in the block is different, siamese bores, etc etc etc.

  • @wc3john
    @wc3john Před 10 lety +1

    Which is what I've done lol, however, a junkyard F4-TE block has to be checked on a lot of things before it passes. Cam bearing journals are notorious for cracking lately. Personally, i'd get the DART block and sleep ALOT better lol.

  • @PowerPerformanceYouTube

    We install a TCI Engineering Custom IFS and it bolted right in!

  • @tremail12
    @tremail12 Před 11 lety +1

    it all depends on the drive train. It's going to be a street car so.... maybe a tremec 5 speed. hp would be around 830-875. more boost could put you right back in the 1000 hp range. The procharger f1r cog system will do that easy. then you have to hold on!

  • @fidstang
    @fidstang Před 11 lety

    I agree, even at mild boost levels the intake valve will want to open and stay open. I always shim my intake spring to increase the seat and open rate to help combat this. Was this motor for marketing, or did it go into a clients vehicle? I'm wondering how the head gaskets will hold up.

    about 12 grand in just parts.if all bought new!
    block- $2800- to 3000
    heads- $2000
    stroker kit- $2100-2800
    vortech supercharger- $4600-5500
    blow thru carb- $ 850-1200
    Then you have al of your accessories; oil pan, distributor, arp bolts, msd box, carb hat, valve covers. All of this is not including installation. So if i had to guess on the build would be about 20 grand.

    What fuel did it make 1030 on?

  • @chevelle19721
    @chevelle19721 Před 11 lety +1

    all depends on personal preference i guess. my dad's dragboat which has a 472BBC in it ran like shit with an enderle set up on it. we wasted months trying to get it to run worth a shit but didn't get much better out of it. Threw some predators on it, starts right up first try, throttle response is unreal, my dad's never been happier with that engine. Also comes to a cost factor. For example on my chevelle i can't afford 1k$ efi system. a new 360$ SMI quadrajet is perfect for me.

  • @knifelover73

    Yeah. But it's Windsor based. You can get a junk yard 351. and a girdle, and do the same thing as a dart block.

    This is all dynoed to the crank. Put it in a car, and dyno it and lets see how much out pushes out. You usually get a higher amount of power when its dynoed from just the crank that you will if you dyno it from the wheels...
    Very good build though. I would definitely be satisfied if out wad in my trailblazer! Lol.

  • @fidstang
    @fidstang Před 11 lety

    I don't know the exact specs of your valvetrain, but on my engines the hydrolic roller lifters have worked well up to around 6800-7000rpm with the correct cam core, valvetrain weight and spring rate. But, the 9.5 deck blocks do have longer pushrods and could be a weak link depending on the thickness. I would be more concerned with the head gaskets at that boost level, than I would be about anything else.

    All I wanted to know was can boosted carb set up make over 1k hp. Considering they did that with an untuned base motor I got my answer. But I think the money would have been better spent on twin turbo's and 30 lbs of boost ;)

    • @belowtheinfluence8499
      @belowtheinfluence8499 Před 7 lety

      For this performance goal TT would of been way overkill and the engines longevity would of been degraded greatly. That paxton only runs anywhere from 13-15 psi so TTs at 30 PSI would be in the 2000 hp range, thus making that engine a short term consumable. 14.7 PSI in a perfect world doubles HP.

    AFR/Lambada showed 15+ that kind of lean will kill the motor. It isn't even hooked up, is it? Computer readout showed 0.0. That
    is really scary, not knowing the baseline Air Fuel #s. For a second the AFR popped on showing high 14s across the board! If that IS the correct AFR, the motor IS starving for fuel and could make much more power if jetted correctly. Good Luck.

  • @fidstang
    @fidstang Před 12 lety

    No it's not. It will consume more than that 80hp you guessed at. It depends on the drive train, gearing, tire diameter and trans type.
    What I'm disappointed in, is the fact that they did not spin it to 6800-7000rpm. That valve train and cam could have easily been stable up there.

    carbs are on cars today bro. efi would be better for turbos, superchargers, etc because of tuning. big nitrous cars use multiple carbs and multiple nitrous kits. carbs are just a cheap way to make power bottom line

    who is the clown that spec'd your cam?! lmao. Did the smell of gas burn your eyes? 534 bhp for a 427 with a 260* cam? smh. Do you normally run boosted motors at 15:1 AFR?

    • @cstavro
      @cstavro Před 9 lety

      *****
      maybe the host said 260* @ 0.050" by accident? 260* advertised, about 210* @ 0.050" is more believable for 534 bhp with that cam. Idle is kind of rough. Tuning a motor while n/a is still very important...supercharging just multiplies base performance.
      at 5:28 all the O2 sensors are reading about 15:1...and they're moving. dead sensors don't give a value, never mind a varying value. 11.6-12.0 is right where it should be.
