    Head shake was a fairly common problem with the 2015-16 Super Adventures. Most people were able to fix it through some combination of adjusting the steering bearing, truing/balancing the wheel, and tire selection. With such a short rake, the SA is very sensitive to anything else unsettling the front-end stability. Also, a lot of the early SA's shipped with poor quality control on the bearing and wheel so one person might have a rock-solid bike, and another gets tank slappers.

    • @xtremebroccoli
      @xtremebroccoli Před 3 lety +1

      Also just a characteristic of a 21inch front wheel I think. Ridden a few dual sports, none of them top end bikes like the 1290 but all had a bit of head shake on freeway at times, nothing major. I’d be surprised if 1290 ever got a tank slapper on the highway.

  • @chrisvantassel8867
    @chrisvantassel8867 Před 6 lety +20

    If you adjust the front brake lever out it completely changes the feel and you realize that the brakes are excellent. For some reason KTM sets the brake lever in too close and it tricks you into thinking they are weak since it is almost to the grip when it kicks in hard. Just turn the set wheel a couple to move it out and it is much better.

    I had the 1190 for 2 years in our rental fleet, awesome bike, but during the summer here in California, we have a lot complains about the heat in the rear cylinder head (yes the seat have the heat shield). Short riders will suffer, tall riders can move the seat to the high position and they will suffer less. Also, I guess Wings? Make a heat/air channel deflector which will help the air move around. In general in my opinion, maintenance and parts are more expensive then the BMW. Love the bike, but... Moving to Honda AT.

    I own the 2018 S model. No the bike is not perfect and it does have some electrical glitches screen does flicker and the My ride is a novelty. The motor is like nothing else it handles like a true sports bike. The WP forks are outstanding and it comfort is an all day rider with an aftermarket seat that stock one is a plank. I can only say that this bike is a gem maybe the best all all a rounder I have ever owned. The electronics package is maybe the best offered on a street bike.
    I`m to short for the R but I can only imagine the insanity of this bike on loose ground...

    I’ve had one of these for four years. No problem whatsoever with the front brake. The adjustments on that bike must’ve been out, or grease on the disc or something.
    I have found this bike to be an incredible all-rounder. Ridiculously powerful but very well-behaved. Extremely narrow so perfect in town. But also a great motorway cruiser. Haven’t taken off road (would absolutely love to) but I imagine it would be incredible there as well from what I’ve seen on videos and considering KTM heritage.

    The Heidenau K60 Scouts are great tyres. I had a set on the Beemer GS (for winter) and loved them. TKC 70 have a road feel with aggressive looking tread but the wear strangely. TKC 80 seems too off road biassed for my taste but hey it’s supposed to be dual purpose. :)

    GS killer, hardly. I went in to buy one. After riding and comparing it to the GSA, guess what I walked out with. Not taking anything away from the KTM. Great bike, awesome motor. But the brakes, comfort level, the ride stability...it all is inferior to the GS or in my case the GSA. I was actually disappointed because I really wanted the KTM. But I'm perfectly happy with the GSA. In one month, I have put over 3k miles on the GSA including one round trip from NC down to Key West and back. Something I don't think I could have done comfortably with the KTM.

    • @chrisvantassel8867
      @chrisvantassel8867 Před 6 lety +18

      Until you go offload. Once you dump that GSA and have to pay 2k to fix it you will then realize why the KTM is a much better "Adventure" bike. I have owned 7 GS's so this is from experience. If I wanted an "Adventure bike" just to travel the freeways and roads the BMW is great. The KTM will always have a better fun factor and I prefer it anyway on the road. WAAAAy better engine!

    • @danielthompson803
      @danielthompson803 Před 5 lety +1

      Yes the GS is the better bike for road use and limited off road the ktm is for someone who is really going to use a bike off road more than on.

      Not something KTM does. Not sure why, but if it's an issue, fairings aren't too expensive. Tank would probably be the worst bit. I think it's a branding thing though. Like how a Ducati is almost always that one shade of red. KTM is the off-road equivalent of a Ducati, high performance, higher maintenance.

    Hot chocolate?...maybe. I'm sure you and Marc Andre were spiking your Timmies with Chic Chic Spiced Rum at the end of a chilly day. Great video as usual Ryan.

    • @FortNine
      @FortNine  Před 7 lety +5

      Audio is done with a Zoom H4n connected to a Sony Electret Condenser lav mic (taped to the inside of my chin bar). Video is just GoPro :) ~RF9

    • @RexyFan
      @RexyFan Před 7 lety

      FortNine I'm using a GoPro 5 with a cheap $3 adapter and $2 mic from eBay but audio quality is really crap. Is your camera a GoPro 5? I wasn't sure other adaptors would work on them as most people suggested buying GoPro's big massive adaptor for around $70
