It doesn't look fine, it looks cheap expecially considering the price of the car. Polo has much nicer interior. Why feel it? Because some things you do touch regularly, some accidentally, hard plastics are noisy especially after a few years.Lastly I feel like I'm getting scammed when I pay a lot of money for the car and get rubbish interior which is worse than in theaper models.

We all know they did the interior like that so it would not outsell everything else in VW's own lineup... So please stop complaining about it, or nobody get the Golf, Passat, Tuareg, Polo ect.

Thanks for the great review Thomas, agree the hard plastics need to be changed for the price. Like the design, the grip in the corners looks well grippy. Don't knkw if I'd spec the Akrapovic echaust at £3k, but it's a contender for my next car.

I don't know why Thomas is referring to the Polo when he talks about the quality of the interior.
The Polo uses definitely better materials since its dashboard is made of very soft touch materials, whereas the T-ROC only offers hard plastic everywhere.
So it's more VW Up quality than Polo ...
Concerning the maps, on the Golf if you spec the larger 10inch Discover Pro, then you can have the maps showing on both screens 👍🏻 Great review as always Thomas 😊👌🏻 Also Grasse is a beautiful place to visit. Have been there myself 😍

Thanks for great video Thomas - as always. Excellent driving part and spectacular Col de Vence road. I would not like that hard suspension (Cupra Ateca DCC is too hard for me also) - rather than this T-Roc, I'd take a Golf with improved interior or a full-spec Tiguan with much better interior, a HUD, DCC and more space! Yes, XK8: very nice - and your favourite car Thomas!

Is the 'Normal' suspension setting acceptable within town/country road driving as an every day driver car? I have the opportunity to purchase a model without the 'Comfort' setting, and was just wondering.Thank you.
U mean without dcc / adaptive suspension? Didn’t drive it. But as i said even the dcc was quite stiff

Can someone tell the difference between off road mode and snow mode?
Exterior is quite nice but the interior is still either bland or tacky, but in either case completely unacceptable for above 50k, here in Finland you would realistically be paying 65k for one after checking basic options (like a reversing camera, or paint) and easily go above that and at that price point you could get a BMW 330i xDrive touring business M-sport for cheaper brand new, so the pricing is absolutely ridiculous.
would like to see a tiguan R model, something competitive against mercedes benz glc suv version, not too big not too small but golden middle

Wah, a lot of rage about the interior in the comments section. It's like being at a Toronto Maple Leafs game! I like the exterior of this vehicle. It's chunky and funky but the VW is taking it on the chin for the cheap materials inside.

I hope I’m wrong but I expect that this won’t be available in Canada. Having just purchased a Golf R as part of my downsizing effort I immediately see how this T-Roc R would have been a better option if it was available. Great dimension, powertrain and with a roof rack option and “tow hook”. I do not like that bright strip over the windows and down the c pillar.

Media law is case law. And there have been verdicts for non-paid productions which still has to be marked as advertisement because a product review can be considered as a purchase helping publishing. So this is what our lawyers told us to be safe. Media law is not friendly towards publishers these days, so we have to watch out. There is no updated general jurisdiction which takes modern online media into account. So everyone will mark everything as advertisement just to be safe and viewers cannot distinguish anymore. That's why you have to know the guys who publish the stuff, and since we have a long-time record for authenticity, people understand our decision.

I'm not a fan of SUVs but this one looks pretty good. Wish they would bring this to Canada with manual and better fuel economy. Be nice if they put soft touch materials, manual hand brake, analog gauges and hydraulic hood struts. Also I'm going to miss the old badges, the new one ding look as good.

nice but usless. If you whant R by Golf better quality, better handing and generaly better car. This face suv does not have to give nothing. And if you want bigger boot space buy Golf R variant.
It looks good and sound awesome but once again let down on the interior esp at this high price.
Autogefühl you drove SQ2 and T-ROC R - which would you pick? quality - sq2 probably, but driving wise? and overall?
Both come close. TRoc has better seats, sq2 suspension is only fixed abd no dcc, so -> troc

@@autogefuehl , i temporarily got a basic version, with some options because i had to wait 3 months for my other car and i can tell you: it's a sh*t car. I can't imagine people pay money for this. VW is way off with this car.
I can only compare the basic version, it's like living in hell driving it. At first people thought i was exaggerating ..until they drove my T-Roc...

The only thing I am wondering about is that the 4wd version is capable of little big of off roading? Obviously I am not talking about climbing the Mount Everest but I guess you are not getting stuck in mud or not getting scared when you have to go on a gravel road.

Lights looking like an explorer
I purchased VW T-Roc. And yes, the hard plastic is a let down for me. But I looked pass it as the overall look, performance, not to mention its infotainment is brilliant. Plus it’s well built - no shaky parts (not sure if that’s the right terminology to use there 😂). I love my T-Roc, it’s simply the best for me.

Part of the problem with all the hard plastics (not just in VW), is manufacturers who are using recycled plastics. It is not possible to make soft plastics (at this price range) from recycled materials. Yet mysteriously the new car prices go one way... UP!
Come on VW. Bring these to North America!!

Funny the interior from new Renault Captur looks like premium against this.
Huh? They don’t even replicate the blue door cappings in the back doors. Interior seems very low rent and dated. Looks almost the same as an old 2011 Golf I once owned.
Not a fan at all of this suv/crossover bananza especially when they clearly cut costs on the interiors. They say this is based on the golf but judging by the interior it looks and feels like it's based on the golf 6 and the regular model is a more expensive car than the golf. The exterior looks good though. Anyways, keep spamming me with reviews Thomas!😂✌️

The blue inset in the door - front - different in the back ?? my OCD could not accept this, looks like your lost something and could not be bothered to match it ? I do struggle with an R version of this style of car when they still make the Golf: in reality, the T ROC should have been the 2019 Golf - made to the gold quality level, it would have been accepted then - but the love of SUV's is odd, I would take a current Golf as my daily driver over this.

Are any animals' lives actually saved by using non-hide seats? Aren't the animals used for food anyway? If that is the case, wouldn't we be wasteful, and even disrespectful toward the animal, if we didn't use every part of it? I also wonder which type of seating is more environmentally friendly. I certainly wouldn't want an animal killed if it were ONLY being used for seating in my car. Thoughts, anyone?

@@autogefuehl My major point is that the skin is going to exist in some form whether we use it or not, as long as people and their pets continue to eat meat. It seems to me that no animal lives are being saved by the use of other seat covering products. Maybe it is better for environmental reasons if we throw away the hides and fabricate new synthetic or natural seat covers, but I don't see a moral aspect to this (as far as the animals are concerned), unless you are also going to attempt to convince the public to develop a non-meat diet. There may be merit to the environmental aspects of turning away from leather products, of this, I personally am not certain (I have not researched it), but I viewed your link and understand your point about that. I however disagree with some of the sentiment voiced within that particular video. Every industry is out to be profitable, so that is in-and-of-itself, irrelevant. What the leather industry is doing is what all industries do.....promote their product.
I presume you are either vegan, or at the very least a vegetarian, don't wear leather shoes, belts, etc. (I did see the online store that you had linked to your other video), and if that's the case, I commend you. I have no doubt that you are well-intentioned.

a) there are animals who are specifically slaughtered for leather. b) see explanation above. You as a customer decide for which you wanna spend money. For animal torture or for better alternatives. Everyone of us can change something with our own pockets

I've never seen a very powerful car. The new Volkswagen T-Roc R it's very cool.

I sadly got this car for about 3 months because i had to wait for my Ford Focus ST Line...the VW T-ROC ( most basic version) is the worst car i've ever driven. Cheap plastic everywhere inside and the car is all over the place ( thank god for lane assist)

The seats are so bad that after a Journey of 150km i had to stop because my back was hurting like hell.
And i won't talk about the suspension...nothing positive to write about that.
It's a REALLY bad car. Better get a Dacia Duster then if you like cheap plastic and bad car overall; At least you get what you pay for.

I love watching all your car reviews Thomas, you do a brilliant job, but although I do care a great deal about animal welfare, I would still opt for leather seats.... Much more luxurious, nothing beats the scent or feel of real leatherm and more importantly much easier to keep clean when you have three children! Totallyv respect your values, principles and point of view on this subject though. Please keep on doing what you're doing and making fantastic content!

In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Also, if you turn the argument around "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize how biased the argument is. After all, would you care for which exact body part you would be murdered? Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination.

Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car.
In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette.
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

The T-Roc looks good on the outside. But God that cheap interior!! Shame on VW. Looks so scratchy and sounds horrid when Thomas was tapping and scratching it. This car is not cheaply priced! They could have made some soft touch inside....
